Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of ARI in children within the working area of Puskesmas Dungingi, Gorontalo City. This study used a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of mothers with children in the working area of Puskesmas Dungingi, Gorontalo City. The sample comprised 95 respondents selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire on maternal knowledge and ARI incidence, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed (1) 43 respondents (45.3%) had poor knowledge, 35 respondents (36.8%) had sufficient knowledge, and 17 respondents (17.9%) had good knowledge; (2) 58 children (61.1%) experienced ARI and 37 children (38.9%) did not; (3) the Chi-Square test showed a p-value of 0.013 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of ARI in children. Health workers at the Puskesmas are advised to routinely provide education on ARI prevention through health promotion. Keywords: Child, ARI Incidence, Maternal Knowledge
