Abstract

This study is motivated by the gap between the high intensity of digital technology use and the relatively limited critical evaluation skills of information sources among university students. Although students are often considered digital natives, they may still experience difficulties in assessing the credibility, accuracy, and reliability of information, particularly among students in the Library and Information Science Program at Universitas Negeri Padang. This study aims to describe students’ levels of digital literacy, their ability to evaluate information sources, and the relationship between these two aspects. A quantitative approach with a descriptive method was employed. The population consisted of 364 active students from the 2022–2025 cohorts, from which 85 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 40 statements and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings indicate that students’ digital literacy was categorized as good, with a mean score of 4.00; information synthesis obtained the highest score, whereas information searching skills obtained the lowest score. Students’ ability to evaluate information sources was also categorized as good, with a mean score of 4.07; relevance was the highest-rated indicator, while authority was the lowest. These findings suggest that students generally demonstrate adequate digital literacy and information evaluation skills, although weaknesses remain in information searching techniques and in assessing the authority and purpose of sources. This study contributes to the literature on digital literacy and information literacy by providing empirical insight into the competencies of prospective information professionals. Practically, the findings imply the need to strengthen critical literacy education, develop curricula focused on information evaluation, and provide continuous training to enhance students’ capacity to assess digital information effectively. Abstract

The limited and often superficial understanding of national figures among students, particularly Bung Hatta, reflects a critical gap between the intended objectives of history education and actual learning outcomes, which remain largely focused on memorization rather than deep conceptual understanding. This issue is closely associated with conventional, teacher-centered instructional approaches that provide limited contextualization and experiential engagement. This study aims to empirically examine the effect of the WIDURI Program, a library-based educational initiative grounded in experiential learning, on high school students’ knowledge of Bung Hatta. A quantitative explanatory design was employed, involving 70 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through simple linear regression after meeting classical assumption requirements. The findings indicate that the WIDURI Program has a positive and statistically significant effect on students’ knowledge, as shown by a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05) and a regression coefficient of 0.729. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.277) further indicates that the program contributes 27.7% to the variance in students’ knowledge. These findings demonstrate that experiential learning within a library context can enhance students’ factual knowledge while also supporting higher-order cognitive skills in line with Bloom’s Taxonomy. This study contributes to history education and library-based learning literature by highlighting the transformative role of libraries as active learning environments rather than passive information providers. Practically, the findings imply that experience-based literacy programs can serve as strategic and innovative approaches to fostering more contextual, critical, and meaningful learning outcomes.

Abstract

Collection arrangement is an essential component of library management because it directly affects information retrieval effectiveness and service quality. However, practical problems such as inconsistent call numbers, inaccurate shelving, and discrepancies between catalog records and the physical location of materials may hinder users in accessing information and shape their perceptions of library services. This study aims to describe library users’ perceptions of collection arrangement at the Regional Archives and Library Service of West Sumatra Province. A quantitative approach with a descriptive quantitative method was employed. The population consisted of 33,184 library users, from which 100 respondents were selected through simple random sampling using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and library research. The research instrument comprised 20 statement items that were tested for validity and reliability using SPSS version 26. The validity test showed that all items had r-count values greater than the r-table value of 0.361, while the reliability test produced a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.829, indicating that the instrument was reliable. The findings reveal that users’ perceptions of collection arrangement were categorized as good, with an overall mean score of 3.15. The clarity of the classification system obtained the highest mean score of 3.22, whereas the accuracy of collection arrangement recorded the lowest mean score of 3.06. These results indicate that call number consistency, classification system clarity, orderly shelving, and ease of information retrieval have adequately supported users in accessing information. The study concludes that collection arrangement is not merely a technical library activity but also a strategic factor in improving service quality and information accessibility. These findings provide practical implications for libraries in improving shelving accuracy, maintaining consistency in collection organization, and optimizing information retrieval systems to develop more effective and user-oriented public library services.
