Abstract

A microscope is a very important tool in learning biology. The preparation media cannot be used optimally if it is not supported by a microscope. Technological developments have succeeded in changing ordinary light microscopes into digital ones. Adding a camera to a microscope and installing software on a computer becomes an effective and efficient biology learning medium. This activity aims to provide training to teachers and students regarding the development of digital microscopes as learning media at SMAN 3 Kefamenanu. The methods used in this service activity include lectures, direct observation practice and group discussions. The results obtained from this activity are that teachers and students gain knowledge about digital microscopes and preparations, are able to operate digital microscopes and make fresh preparations independently. The evaluation results showed that 85% of participants were very satisfied with the service activities that had been carried out. Training on developing digital microscopes as a learning medium at SMAN 3 Kefamenanu can have a positive influence. Teachers and students are greatly helped in practicum-based biology learning activities. Practical activities can take place effectively and efficiently. Apart from that, teachers and students also gain knowledge and experience regarding digital microscopes, operating digital microscopes, calibration, and making fresh preparations.

Abstract

The Dawanese have a staple food which is also a typical food, namely bose and katemak, the manufacture of which utilizes a variety of cereal plant resources and is generally served with a complement in the form of local vegetables or typical chili sauce of the Dawan people. This study aims to determine the types of plants used by the Dawan community as a complement to staple food. Exploration methods and interviews were conducted to obtain information on the names of species and plant parts used. The plant data obtained were identified and then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there were 12 types of plants from the Solanaceae, Rutaceae, Apiaceae, Lamiaceae, Amaryllidaceae, and Alliaceae families which were generally used in the manufacture of chili sauce typical of the Dawan community. The plant parts used are leaves, fruit, and tubers. Knowledge about plant utilization needs to be accompanied by knowledge about plant preservation and conservation efforts.

Abstract

Abstrak: Peningkatan pemahaman peserta didik tidak cukup ditempuh melalui teori saja namun perlu juga dengan pelaksanaan praktikum. Salah satu rangkaian kegiatan praktikum yang dapat dilakukan di sekolah yaitu pembuatan preparat yang dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran dan juga sebagai pengayaan materi praktikum biologi. Pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman dan melatih keterampilan guru dan siswa melalui praktek pembuatan preparat semi permanen dan preparat kromosom. Mitra kegiatan terdiri atas 4 orang guru dan 27 orang siswa XII IPA. Metode kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan melalui penyampaian materi, praktik pembuatan preparat secara langsung dan evaluasi. Sistem evaluasi kegiatan berupa pemberian angket kepada peserta. Hasil kegiatan diperoleh pemahaman dan keterampilan pembuatan preparat oleh peserta pengabdian mencapai 80%.Abstract: Improving students' understanding is not enough to be achieved through theory alone but also needs to be done through practicum. One of the series of practicum activities that can be done in schools is making slides that can be used as learning media and also as enrichment of biology practicum material. This community service aims to improve understanding and train the skills of teachers and students through the practice of making semi-permanent preparations and chromosome preparations. The activity partners consist of 4 teachers and 27 students of XII IPA. The method of this community service activity is carried out through delivering material, practicing making slides directly and evaluation. The activity evaluation system is in the form of giving questionnaires to participants. The results of the activity obtained understanding and skills in making preparations by community service participants reached 80%.
