Abstract

Mangifera indica L. var. wirasangka or wirasangka mango, a local plant in Tegal Regency, has a low population because it is rarely planted by people as its unknown nutritional content. To increase people's interest in planting, it is necessary to know the nutritional content of wirasangka mango. The aim of the study was to compare the nutritional content of wirasangka mango with three other varieties in Tegal Regency. This study used a one-factor completely randomized design. The factor was the mango variety which included six varieties, namely the varieties of wirasangka from three areas, okyong, tengkoeh, and golek. The variables observed were content of water, fiber, fructose, β-carotene, potassium and iron, as well as vitamin C and antioxidant activity. Normally distributed data were analyzed using One-Way Analysis of Variance and Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. Besides, the non-normally distribution data were analyzed using Kruskal Walis and continued with post-hoc test, i.e. Mann-Whitney. The results showed that the levels of water, dietary fiber, fructose, β-carotene, and iron were significantly different at the significance level of 0.1. Wirasangka mango has a higher fiber, and fructose content, but lower of β-carotene and iron content compared to okyong, tengkoeh and golek mangoes. The levels of vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidant activity of wirasangka mango were equivalent to the three other varieties studied. Thus the wirasangka mango has advantages which are expected to increase the interest of people in Tegal Regency to plant this variety. As a result, its population in the future will also increase.

Abstract

Abstract

The initiation of the development of Ngesrepbalong Village as a green economy-based avocado center is supported by the village's regional conditions. A green economy needs to be implemented because Ngesrepbalong is known to be the only village in Kendal Regency that has the potential for landslides. Landslide mitigation can be done by increasing the population of deep-rooted, compact, and massive woody trees such as avocados so that water can be retained and the soil becomes stable. The priority problems of the Gunungsari farmer partners in Ngesrepbalong Village include management and production aspects of preparing their area as an avocado center area. Farmer group institutions have yet to be available, and most avocados are not superior varieties. This activity aims to initiate Ngesrepbalong as a green economy-based avocado center. Activities will occur in May-November 2023 through socialization, training and mentoring, application of technology and mentoring, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability program. The institution of superior avocado farmers was realized by forming the "Gunung Berkah" avocado farmer group. Facilities and infrastructure such as seedling houses, grafting knives, and others were used to propagate 300 seedlings, and top working on 15 adult avocado trees. The superior variety of trees used for grafting and TW is Diane avocado. Increased empowerment of farmer partners is measured after program implementation. The results of measuring the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective/enthusiasm aspects via questionnaires showed the highest to lowest increases in the affective/enthusiasm, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects, respectively. The availability of grafting and TW facilities and infrastructure, as well as increasing farmers' abilities in these three aspects, is a manifestation of the achievements of the initiation of Ngesrepbalong Village to become a superior avocado center based on a green economy.

Abstract

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) declared itself as a conservation university with 3 main pillars, namely: (1) values and character, (2) arts and culture, and (3) natural resources and physical environment. UNNES believes the environmental crisis cannot be overcome only through practical and technical actions but it also attempts to change the way humans view and behave towards the environment. One indicator of natural resources pillars and the environment is green transportation. To implement green transportation, UNNES develops an internal transportation system to guide the use of vehicles, roads and parking areas on the campus. The use of regulated vehicles included motorized and non-motorized vehicles. The target of implementing a green transportation system was to reduce emissions in the campus environment to a minimum level. Motorized vehicles must obey the directional traffic signs applied in the campus environment and be only allowed to park in designated parking areas. Sufficient space for bicycle traffic, environmentally-friendly vehicles, and pedestrians on the sideways were preferred. Motor vehicle noise levels must not exceed 55 dB. Special vehicle traffic, among others, such as garbage transporters, watering plants, fire engines, and special-licensed vehicles were regulated under applicable regulations. Inspection tasks were carried out by security vehicles that can go through all roads in the campus environment in the direction of the designated lane, except in unlikely emergencies. Environmentally-friendly vehicles in the form of electric and non-fossil cars operated on Monday-Friday from 6:00 to 18:00 and were free. Markings with different colors, and bicycle lanes were used to differentiate between motorized vehicles. Campus parking points consisted of a central parking point and several auxiliary parking units. The central parking in the Multi-purpose Building was used for motorized vehicles or bicycles and was guarded 24 hours. Meanwhile, the auxiliary parking units were located in each work unit area which also had a security system. People with disabilities were facilitated through special signposts.

Abstract

Ngesrepbalong Village in Limbangan District, Kendal, is known to be prone to landslides. Landslide mitigation through planting deep-rooted trees. This village was classified as a developing village until the end of 2023. Efforts to realize Ngesrepbalong as an avocado center required intensifying superior avocado cultivation, which involved mass availability of seeds. The problem was that the rootstock in avocado grafting was limited because one avocado only produced one seed. The production problems of the target partners of "Gunung Berkah" were overcome through socialization, training, implementation, assistance, monitoring and evaluation, and ensuring its sustainability by splitting avocado seeds/embryos into at least 2 or more. The community service activities showed that 100% of seed splitting results succeeded in growing into standard rootstock, which then became 150 superior avocado seedlings through grafting. The difference in rootstock was only in its height. For the efficiency of rootstock propagation for the Gunung Berkah group in the future, it is recommended that seed/embryo splitting be combined with the treatment of cutting the bottom of the avocado seed, giving growth hormones, and using the right planting media. The availability of avocado rootstock accelerated the availability of seeds for the intensification of superior avocado cultivation towards the realization of Ngesrepbalong as a superior avocado center.
