Abstract

The construction of a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) using Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology is an interesting scheme to support Net-Zero Carbon Emission. The SMR design is an advanced generation reactor with high safety and utilization features, especially the electricity needed and industry. Its modular size can also be applied to remote areas with lower construction costs compared to other types of power plants. Considering the geographical location and territory of Indonesia which is an archipelagic country, this type of reactor is suitable for application in Indonesia. To ensure safety and increase mastery of technology, it is necessary to create a simulator to support this program. Nonetheless, specific regulations govern human-machine interactions (HMI) which is covering the nuclear reactor simulators in Indonesia is not yet available. The research carried out is a review of the regulations that have been implemented in other countries, then provides a choice of operator condition designs, which are adjusted to the average size of Indonesian by considering anthropometric aspects and ergonomic aspects.

Abstract

The Plant Protection System (PPS), which consists of Reactor Protection Systems (RPS) and Engineered Safety Actuated Systems (ESFAS), is one of the most important safety systems in nuclear reactors, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The RPS generates a signal to trip the reactor if the measured reactor parameters exceed the trip setpoint, and then the ESFAS is actuated to mitigate the consequences of the accident by minimizing fuel damage and radioactivity release into the environment. Therefore, a comprehensive Human-Machine Interface (HMI) is essential for monitoring and controlling the PPS to ensure its reliability and enhance the operators' situational awareness. This study discusses the development process of the HMI for the digital PPS of an SMR. In this study, various standards, guidance, and design criteria for PPS and HMI are incorporated and applied to ensure that the proposed design meets the required level of reliability. In the first stage, the proposed design is intended for assessing the functionality and reliability of the PPS. Moreover, in the future, it will play an essential role in the design phase of the HMI for the PPS of an SMR in Indonesia.

Abstract

Water transfer in inland areas is still done manually, so we need a water pump with efficiency, technology, economy without the use of electricity and fuel, namely a hydram pump. A hydram pump is a water pump that relies on the momentum of water to raise water. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of inlet pipe size on pump efficiency, outlet pipe flow rate and the effect of pipe joints on major and minor losses. This research was made with a water source height of 1 m, varying inlet pipes measuring ¾ inch, 1 inch, and 1,5 inch with a length of 5 m, a hydram pump body with a diameter of 1 inch, an air tube with a diameter of 3 inch with a length of 40 cm and an outlet pipe measuring ½ inch. The largest hydram pump efficiency is found in the ¾ inch inlet pipe with 1.94% with an outlet pipe flow rate of 1.79 l/min and the lowest efficiency is in a 1 inch inlet pipe with 1.49% with an outlet pipe flow rate is 1.55 l/min while the major value and the biggest loss value are in the ¾ inch inlet pipe with values of 0.00754 m and 0.678 m and the lowest values are in the 1.5 inch inlet pipe with values of 0.000410 m and 0.019 m so that it can be concluded that the cross-sectional area and the number of connections in the hydram pump installation are very influential on the value of major and minor losses. Keywords: Diameter, Waste Valve, Pipe, Pump

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in critical thinking skills between students who learn using the problem based learning model and STAD model. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental method. The population of this study is the X grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta in the academic year 2017/2018. Samples were obtained by using cluster random sampling technique consisting of two classes namely X PM 1 class as the experimental class with problem-based learning and X PM 3 class as the control class with STAD learning. The technique of collecting data uses a multiple choice test to determine students' critical thinking skills. Data Analysis is using MANOVA. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant influence between the learning model on critical thinking skills. The application of the problem-based learning model proved to be more able to improve students' critical thinking skills compared to the STAD learning model.
