Abstract

Abstract

Squid is one of the non-fish resources that have economic value and is a target species in demersal fisheries activities with squid fishing gear and stick-held deep net. This research aims to determine the biological aspects of squid (Loligo edulis) such as length frequency distribution, length-weight relationship, sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, size at first caught, and size at first maturity of the gonads. The method used in this research was a descriptive survey. The sample collection method used systematic random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. This observation was carried out on March 7 to July 30, 2022, at the Belawan Ocean Fishing Port and Tanjung Balai Port. The results showed that the average length distribution of squid was 17.73 cm. The relationship between the length and weight of squid is negative allometric. The sex ratio is 1:1.05. The negative allometric growth pattern is dominated by Gonadal Maturity Level (GML) I and GML II. The highest GML value for male squid was 2.06% at GML III, and the highest GML value for female squid was 1.92% at GML III. The average size of the caught squid length (Lc) is 10.42 cm. The size of the first gonad maturity (Lc) was 13.32 cm.Keywords:SquidBiological aspectsFisheries aspectManagement effort

Abstract

The management of mangrove conservation and ecotourism on Wangi-Wangi Island in Wakatobi employs a Moderated-Mediation approach using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to understand the complex mechanisms between conservation and ecotourism efforts, community empowerment, and the sustainability of ecotourism. This study also examines the moderating role of institutional barriers and motivation. Mangrove ecosystems are threatened by anthropogenic factors and the lack of management institutions, particularly in Wakatobi, which possesses the local wisdom of its indigenous communities but faces challenges related to infrastructure and community participation, often limited to a tokenistic level. The research method involved a survey with a 5-point Likert questionnaire administered to 100 respondents from various stakeholders across four coastal villages. Data analysis was performed using SEM-PLS 4.0 software to test for validity, reliability, and model hypotheses, alongside descriptive qualitative data interpretation. Results indicate that although the direct impact of conservation and ecotourism on sustainability is not significant, community empowerment significantly mediates this relationship with an indirect effect of 0.587. Furthermore, institutional barriers and motivation were not found to be significant moderators, even though they remain contemporary issues. Thus, the sustainability of mangrove ecotourism in Wangi-Wangi largely depends on effective community empowerment as a key mediator, rather than direct conservation and ecotourism efforts. Consequently, policy recommendations should focus on strengthening community empowerment, particularly through political and participatory dimensions, enhancing citizen oversight, and improving structural governance, including infrastructure and regulations, to address existing barriers

Abstract

Pengambilan sagittae dilakukan dengan cara “up through the gill”. Shortfin scad (Decapterus macrosoma) is an important economic commodity from the Carangidae family which is mostly caught in South Bali waters. Fish otoliths are widely used to assess the taxonomy, growth, age, and relationships of fish populations from different waters. This study aims to determine the relationship between otolith morphometrics and the size of the flying fish as well as the morphological characteristics of the otoliths. Samples were collected from the Kedonganan Fish Landing Base (PPI) and Pengambengan Archipelago Fishery Port (PPN), South Bali between March 7 to April 5, 2020. The deles fly fish sample was taken randomly (random sampling) from the catch of ring trawlers that operate in an automated manner. Daily. Sagittae collection is done by "up through the gill". Overall, 83 pairs of intact otolith sagittae samples were used which were successfully taken from the head of the deles flying fish. Otolith morphometric relationships and fish size were analyzed using the linear regression equation y = ax + b. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the morphometry of the left and right otoliths. Otolith size has an isometric correlation with fish growth, in the sense that otolith length (OL) is the best indicator to estimate the individual size of Decapterus macrosoma flying fish.
