Abstract

Wilayah DAS Serayu Hulu merupakan DAS prioritas yang memerlukan langkah pengelolaan yang komprehensif. Aplikasi model Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) dapat digunakan sebagai media untuk  perencanaan konservasi ataupun evaluasi respon DAS (debit aliran permukaan, sedimen dan pencemaran sungai). Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah menjalankan model SWAT di DAS Serayu Hulu untuk mengetahui laju sedimen di wilayah ini. Pemodelan SWAT membutuhkan sejumlah input parameter berupa relief, tanah, tutupan lahan dan pengelolaan lahan. Pedogeomorfologi digunakan sebagai batas satuan tanah karena tidak tersedianya peta tanah di wilayah penelitian. Hasil Penerapan model SWAT di DAS Serayu Hulu menghasilkan nilai yang cukup memuaskan, hal ini ditunjukkan nilai R2 mencapai 0,94. Hasil pemodelan SWAT dengan menggunakan data selama 10 tahun (2004-2013) menunjukkan bahwa DAS Serayu Hulu memiliki rerata hasil sedimen sebesar 1.926.900 ton/tahun. Sub DAS 8,9 11, 17, 18, dan 19 merupakan penghasil sedimen tertinggi di DAS Serayu Hulu dengan hasil sedimen 43.931– 121.434 ton/ha/tahun.

Abstract

Pengelolaan tanah untuk pertanian yang berkelanjutan perlu untuk memeperhatikan 2 hal, yaitu bentuklahan dan tanah. Faktor tanah yang perlu diperhatikan adalah struktur tanah. Penelitian yang fokus pada bentuklahan, struktur tanah, dan implikasinya pada pengelolan belum pernah dilakukan di DAS Kaliwungu. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur tanah pada setiap bentuklahan sebagai dasar untuk pengelolaan tanah yang berkelanjutan. Kualitas struktur tanah ditentukan dari observasi profil tanah pada setiap bentuklahan. Identifikasi bentuklahan dilakukan berdasarkan pengumpulan data dari Kendaraan Nirawak. Viusal Evaluation of Subsoil Strucutre (SubVESS) digunakan untuk menentukan kualitas struktur tanah berdasarkan karakteristik struktur tanah. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa area penelitian memiliki kualitas struktur tanah yang baik dengan mayoritas nilai kualitas strutktur tanah yang berkisan antara Ssq 1-3. Tidak diperlukan adanya perubahan dalam pengelolaan tanah pada area kajian.Soil management for sustainable agriculture needs to focus on 2 things, which are landform and soil. Soil factor that needs to be focused on is soil structure. The study that focused on landform, soil structure and its implication on soil management has never been done in Kaliwungu Watershed. This research aims to analyze soil structure on every landform as the basis to determine sustainable soil management. Soil structure quality was determine by soil profile observation on every landform. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) photographic data was used to identify each landform. Visual Evaluation of Subsoil Structure (SubVESS) was used to identify the quality of soil structure based on its characteristic. The result shows that study area has a good soil structure quality with the majority of soil layer has a good soil structure quality (Ssq 1-3). There is no need to change in soil management is needed.

Abstract

Gunungapi Merapi merupakan salah satu gunungapi paling aktif di dunia. Secara administratif, lereng sisi selatan berada dalam administrasi Kabupaten Sleman, Daerah  Istimewa Yogyakarta, dan sisanya berada pada Provinsi Jawa Tengah, yaitu Kabupaten Magelang di sisi barat, Kabupaten Boyolali di sisi utara dan timur, serta Kabupaten Klaten di sisi tenggara. Beberapa bahaya yang ditimbulkan oleh erupsi Gunungapi Merapi salah satunya bencana banjir lahar yang dapat menyebabkan beberapa kerusakan, diantaranya kerusakan pemukiman. Magelang merupakan salah satu Kabupaten yang terkena dampak bencana banjir lahar dimana salah satunya Kecamatan Ngluwar yang berbatasan dengan Kecamatan Salam dan Tempel di sebelah timur, dengan Kecamatan Muntilan dan Borobudur di sebelah utara, dengan Kecamatan Kalibawang di sebelah barat dan berbatasan dengan Kecamatan Minggir di sebelah selatan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memanfaatkan aplikasi Sistem Informasi Geografis dan Penginderaan Jauh untuk memetakan estimasi kerusakan pemukiman akibat banjir lahar di Kecamatan Ngluwar dengan menggunakan citra Ikonos dan beberapa peta pendukungnya. Penelitian ini tidak mengangkat aktivitas tanggap bencana, akan tetapi lebih fokus pada teknis pemetaan.Daerah yang tidak rusak jauh lebih luas dibandingkan daerah yang rusak. Hal ini mengindikasikan metode ini cukup berhasil dalam menggambarkan kondisi bencana daerah penelitian. Aplikasi SIG dalam menentukan lokasi risiko ini dapat dilakukan pada sungai-sungai yang berhulu di Gunungapi, guna mengurangi dampak akibat dari bencana banjir lahar di masa yang akan datang. Perlunya pengelolaan secara komprehensif antara pemerintah, masyarakat, dan akademisi dalam hal mengurangi risiko bencana.

Abstract

This paper analyses the correlation between vulnerable areas and resident's risk perception. For such purpose, it uses descriptive and correlation analysis. The mapping of the vulnerable area is based on the vulnerability levels, which were analyzed with the Geographical Information System (GIS). The GIS and correlation analysis show that education level and income rate of the respondents have negative correlations with level of vulnerability in the area. The perception index has a positive correlation with level of vulnerable in the area. These results are different from the degree of the risk averse variable that does not significantly correlate with the level of hazardous area. Pemetaan daerah rawan didasarkan pada tingkat kerentanan, yang dianalisis dengan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pendidikan dan tingkat pendapatan responden memiliki korelasi negatif dengan tingkat kerentanan di daerah. Indeks Persepsi memiliki korelasi positif dengan tingkat kerentanan suatu daerah. Abstract

Rapid urbanization has made Kathmandu Valley one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in South Asia, resulting in the need of additional facilities and infrastructure. The local energy crisis is one of the issues to be addressed. High dependence on imported fossil fuels and the sluggish development of hydropower for electricity generation despite abundant water resources are the major causes to be blamed for the energy crisis in Nepal. This study investigated possible strategies to be implemented in Kathmandu Valley to deal with the discrepancy between energy demand and supply. Several scenarios have been developed and analyzed, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The Comprehensive Scenario, which borrowed from all other developed scenarios, seems superior to the others. It reduces the energy demand by 32.36%, the GHG emission by 44.12%, and the social cost by 33.79%. This scenario implies that the Kathmandu Valley authority will support the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, the use of electric vehicles and electric cookers, and convert solid waste into energy. However, the EV Scenario (electric vehicles) is the one to be given priority in the implementation for its better performance than the other individual scenarios.

Abstract

Numerous researches on landslides have been carried out by many researches. However, studies on soil physical properties related to landslides potential in volcanic area are still rare. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of soil physical properties on landslides potential. To collect the soil sample, sampling area method was applied. The soil type used in this study was the residual soil. The values of clay liquid limit, plasticity limit, plasticity index, water content, COLE index were used to measure the physical properties of the soil. Organic material was used as the supporting data. The results showed that the soil in the command area showed high value of clay which exceeded 50%. Such high level conditions in each profile affect the liquid limit; plasticity limit, plasticity index, water content, COLE index and organic material. Based on the results, it can be concluded that residual soils with significantly high clay values illustrated the risk of landslide fields formation in Bompon sub-watershed. The clay soil layer was the controlled factor of soil movement.

Abstract

There is a contradictive situation between the theory that believes that high volcanic hazard areas should be for limited production zones and those areas that are intensively utilised for several production activities. This paper tries to discuss that contradictive situation from both the perspective of natural hazards and natural resources, therefore, the best options for the land utilisation pattern might be formulated at these high volcanic hazards areas. We conducted landscape analysis that covers volcanic morphology, volcanic materials, and both natural and artificial processes that modify the morphology and materials characteristics. The natural processes occurring in the high volcanic hazard might cover non-volcanic processes such as erosion and landslide. The artificial processes were usually considered as land utilisation activities by the local community. In such areas where both natural and artificial processes occurred, we conducted in-depth interviews to assess the community perception on thread and benefits of the last Kelud Eruption in February 2014. We evaluated the current land resources utilisation and portrayed the local adaptive land resource utilisation. There were three types of land resources available at the active volcano: space, natural scenery, and volcanic materials. The availability of these land resources was in a dynamic condition both in terms of quality and quantity. Immediately after the eruption, the natural scenery made the area attractive as a tourist destination. Following the high intensity of rainfall, the volcanic materials might be used as high-quality construction materials. The available space might be utilised for any purposes after the situation became relatively stable. The current space was mostly used for agricultural enterprises which accommodates the physical and socio-cultural characteristics of the active volcano environment.

Abstract

Java, the most densely populated island in Indonesia, is located on top of the most seismically active areas in Southeast Asia: the Sunda Megathrust. This area is frequently hit by strong earthquake. More than 3,300 M5earthquakesoccurred between 1973-2014. The wide range of mountainous areas and high intensity of rainfall, make several part of the island one of the most exposed regions for coseismic landslides such as Baturagung area, the Southeast mountainous area of Yogyakarta Province. An integrated method between RS and GIS was used to conduct the vulnerability assessment due to the lack of the site specific slope instability analysis and coseismic landslides data. The seismic zonation of Baturagung area was obtained based on the analysis of Kanai attenuation. The geologic information was extracted using remote sensing interpretation based on the 1:100,000 geologic map of Yogyakarta and geomorphologic map of Baturagung area as well. The coseismic landslide hazard assessment has been estimated using scoring analysis in the GIS platform proposed by Mora and Vahrson (1993) with several modification. The accomplished coseismic landslide hazard map shows medium hazard coverage in the eastern areas, in the upper slope of Baturagung area, which consists of Semilir Formation. The result provides a distinct description of coseismic landslides hazard distribution in Batuaragung area. However, it should only be the preliminary assessment of the site specific investigation especially on valuable area or asset.

Abstract

The objective of this research were: 1) to study the degree of soil development, and 2) to study the spatial correlation between the degree of soil development and the degree of mass movement susceptibility in the research area. The sampling method applied in this research was stratified sampling. Soil mapping units were applied as strata. The sample within strata was determined according the degree of mass movement susceptibility. The degree of soil development was determined using quantitative method of color indices and proflie index. The color indices were Buntley – Westin (B – W), Harden (H), and Hurst. The profile index was determined using solum, texture, structure, and soil consistency. The degree of mass movement susceptibility map was taken from PSBA UGM (2001). Spatial correlation between the soil development map and the mass movement susceptibility map was analyzed using “error matrix”. The result of this research indicated that the degree of soil development in the research area could be classified into three classes, i.e. class 1 (weakly develop soil); class 2 (moderately developed soil), class 3 (strongly developed soil). The degree of mass movement susceptibility was classified into three classes, i.e. class 1 (low susceptibility), class 2 (moderate susceptibility), and class 3 (high susceptibility). The result of error matrix calculation between mass movement susceptibility and soil development were 9.56%; 21.96%; 30.21% for BW + Ha, Hurst, and profile indices respectively. There values showed that there were low spatial correlations between the degree of soil development and mass movement susceptibility in the study area.

Abstract

Java Island, the most populated island of Indonesia, is prone to landslide disasters. Their occurrence and impact have increased mainly as the result of natural factors, aggravated by human imprint. This paper is intended to analyse: (1) the spatio-temporal variation of landslides in Java during short term and long-term periods, and (2) their causative factors such as rainfall, topography, geology, earthquakes, and land-use. The evaluation spatially and temporally of historical landslides and consequences were based on the landslide database covering the period of 1981 – 2007 in the GIS environment. Database showed that landslides distributed unevenly between West Java (67 %), Central Java (29 %) and East Java (4 %). Slope failures were most abundant on the very intensively weathered zone of old volcanic materials on slope angles of 30O – 40O. Rainfall threshold analysis showed that shallow landslides and deep-seated landslides were triggered by rainfall events of 300 – 600 mm and 600 mm respectively of antecedent rainfall during 30 consecutive days, and many cases showed that the landslides were not always initiated by intense rainfall during the landslide day. Human interference plays an important role in landslide occurrence through land conversion from natural forest to dryland agriculture which was the host of most of landslides in Java. These results and methods can be used as valuable information on the spatio-temporal characteristics of landslides in Java and their relationship with causative factors, thereby providing a sound basis for landslide investigation in more detail.
