Abstract

As an archipelagic nation with the fourth largest population in the world, Indonesia faces challenges in employment opportunities due to the imbalance between population growth and job availability. Consequently, both central and regional governments are now focusing on the development of the informal sector, which contributes significantly to the economy and employment creation. In the era of the digital economy, this sector benefits from technological advancements. However, informal entrepreneurs continue to face obstacles such as limited access to technology, human resources, and capital. This study aims to examine the influence of education, capital, and information technology on the income of informal sector actors who utilize e-commerce in Denpasar City, both simultaneously and partially. The data used in this study consists of both primary and secondary sources, collected through interviews with 100 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The analytical methods employed include descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that the variables of education, capital, and information technology simultaneously have a significant influence on the income of the informal sector. Partially, each of these variables also exerts a positive and significant influence on income. Based on these findings, it is recommended to increase attention to education and training in digital technology utilization, as well as improve access to capital for informal entrepreneurs. These efforts can enhance sales performance, expand market reach, and consequently increase income.

Abstract

The green economy, as a dimension of sustainable development, offers a comprehensive framework for achieving sustainability goals. The Gringsing textile industry in Bali presents a unique opportunity to integrate traditional crafts with principles of a green economy. This study examines the opportunities and challenges of sustainable Gringsing textile production in Tenganan through the lens of green economy principles. The MULTIMOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis plus Full Multiplicative Form) method was employed to evaluate the environmental, economic, and social impacts of production alternatives. The findings reveal that Alternatives A1 and A3 achieved identical aggregate values of 0.84, with distinct strengths. A1 excels in economic viability and social contribution, making it a balanced option for stakeholders seeking comprehensive benefits. In contrast, A3 demonstrates superior environmental performance, making it the preferred choice for initiatives prioritizing ecological sustainability. Opportunities for sustainable Gringsing textile production include market expansion, innovation, and policy support, while challenges encompass high production costs, market competition, and resource constraints.

Abstract

Badung Market, as one of the largest traditional markets in Denpasar City, serves as a central hub of economic activity and sustains the livelihood of a substantial number of women traders. The presence of women in this sector is not only a reflection of their economic role but also of their contribution to household welfare and community development. This study aims to analyze the influence of education, income, dependents, and age on women’s decisions to work as traders in Pasar Badung. Employing a quantitative approach with an associative design, the research involved 88 respondents selected through purposive sampling from a total population of 768 female traders. Data collection methods included questionnaires, direct observation, and interviews, while data analysis utilized multiple linear regression preceded by validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests to ensure robustness. The results indicate that, simultaneously, all independent variables significantly affect women’s decision to engage in trading activities. Partially, education, dependents, and age show a significant positive effect, suggesting that higher educational attainment, greater family responsibilities, and maturity increase women’s participation in trading. In contrast, husband’s income exerts a significant negative effect, implying that higher spousal earnings reduce the economic pressure for women to seek income through market trading. These findings highlight that economic necessity, household responsibilities, and social roles remain the primary motivators for women’s active involvement in traditional market activities. The implications of this study are relevant for policymakers and local governments, particularly in designing targeted empowerment programs, skills training, and economic support mechanisms to enhance women’s entrepreneurial capacity in traditional markets. Strengthening women’s roles in this sector is crucial not only for family welfare but also for broader community resilience and local economic growth.

Abstract

Gringsing weaving from Tenganan Village is renowned for its distinctive indigo blue dye, derived from the tawum tree. However, traditional awig-awig (customary regulations) prohibit dyeing within the village due to environmental concerns, particularly the risk of groundwater contamination. As a result, dyeing activities are relocated to neighboring Bugbug Village, where local rivers are used for washing and saltwater soaking—processes that enhance the quality of the dye. This relocation has led weavers to outsource dyeing services, prompting an investigation into the factors influencing their willingness-to-pay (WTP). This study employs Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with Gringsing weavers and relevant government stakeholders, supported by MICMAC (Matrix of Cross-Impact Multiplications Applied to a Classification) and Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) analyses. The MICMAC results identify cultural capital and awig-awig as primary driving factors shaping WTP. BBN analysis further highlights the significant influence of Communal Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR) and income stability. These findings suggest that willingness to pay is shaped not only by economic considerations but also by deeply embedded cultural and institutional factors. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the Gringsing weaving tradition, interventions must integrate cultural revitalization, environmental responsibility, and financial empowerment. Strengthening intellectual property protections, promoting income-generating opportunities, and respecting traditional regulatory frameworks are essential to preserving both the cultural integrity and economic viability of the Gringsing weaving industry.

Abstract

The sandwich generation in Bali, especially Gianyar, which is still thick with its culture, has a dual role in the family, as caregivers for children and parents, breadwinners, and is actively involved in community activities. This study aims to analyze the influence of cultural norms in moderating the effect of family roles and social support on the happiness of the sandwich generation. The samples were 203 generations of sandwiches obtained through accidental sampling techniques and analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The results showed that cultural norms, social support, and family roles significantly influence the happiness of the sandwich generation. Meanwhile, cultural norms were not variables that moderate the effect of family roles and social support on the happiness of the sandwich generation. This study proposed two central policies to break the sandwich generation chain in Gianyar Regency: socializing the importance of financial literacy so that in the future, a person does not depend on his child for life and forming a parent empowerment group to reduce the burden of the sandwich generation.JEL Classification: M14, J12, I31, L31How to Cite:Yuniari, N.
