Abstract

Grobogan Regency in Central Java Province has a high level of flood risk, so the construction of river retaining walls is an important infrastructure for disaster mitigation. The estimation of construction costs at the early planning stage plays a crucial role in budgeting and technical decision-making. This study aims to compare the accuracy and consistency of two cost estimation approaches: Cost Significant Model (CSM), based on multiple linear regression, and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) using the backpropagation algorithm. The dataset comprises 42 Bill of Quantity (BoQ) documents (37 training data and 5 testing data), with additional validation conducted through field surveys at seven proposed retaining wall locations. Model performance was evaluated using Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) to measure accuracy and Bland–Altman Plot to assess consistency. The results indicate that CSM achieved a MAPE value of 1.70%, which is lower than that of ANN, which yielded 2.50%. The Bland–Altman analysis also shows that CSM demonstrates higher consistency, as the linear regression approach allows prediction beyond the training data range, making it more adaptive to actual conditions. In contrast, ANN tends to be constrained within the normalized training data range, reducing its flexibility when encountering new data variations. Therefore, it can be concluded that CSM performs better than ANN in terms of accuracy and consistency in estimating the construction cost of river retaining walls in Grobogan Regency.

Abstract

Zoonotic neglected tropical diseases (zNTDs) pose significant global public health challenges, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries. Traditional siloed approaches to zNTD management have proven inadequate for addressing the complex interplay between human, animal, and environmental health factors. This review examined the limitations of fragmented strategies and explored the potential of integrated one-health approaches for more effective zNTD control. This narrative review covered publications from 2000 to 2023, sourced from databases including PubMed and Scopus, emphasizing studies that met inclusion criteria of peer-reviewed research focused on zNTDs through a One Health lens. A comprehensive analysis of the current literature and case studies was conducted to evaluate the multifaceted drivers of zoonotic pathogen spillover, assess the economic and health impacts of zNTDs, and identify successful implementation of the One Health strategy in endemic regions. This review highlights the inadequacies of siloed disease management approaches, which often lead to inefficient resource allocation and missed opportunities for synergistic intervention. Successful case studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the One Health strategy in improving disease surveillance, enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration, and achieving sustainable health outcomes. The potential of emerging technologies and innovations to support integrated approaches has also been explored. Transitioning from siloed to systemic approaches in zNTD management requires overcoming institutional barriers, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and implementing multitiered frameworks that operate at the local, national, and global levels. Investing in cross-sectoral capacity development and leveraging technological innovations are crucial for building a workforce capable of addressing the complex challenges posed by zNTDs. Adopting the One Health principle offers a promising path toward more comprehensive, efficient, and sustainable strategies for zNTD prevention.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze water loss due to seepage in the irrigation canal of the Batu Bulan Dam in Sumbawa, NTB. Irrigation systems are vital for agriculture in Indonesia, but water loss from seepage significantly reduces water use efficiency. The Batu Bulan Dam plays a crucial role in supporting agriculture in the region, yet the poor physical condition of the canal, cracks, and high soil permeability cause substantial water seepage. This study uses Geo-Studio Seep/W 2018 software to model and analyze water seepage patterns in the canal. The results reveal that water loss due to seepage is significant, influenced by the canal's physical condition and surrounding soil properties. This loss negatively impacts agricultural productivity and the environment. Plants that do not receive adequate water suffer from drought stress, leading to reduced crop yields and lower product quality. Additionally, a decrease in groundwater levels can disrupt groundwater ecosystems. To improve irrigation efficiency, it is recommended to upgrade the canal to a permanent structure, conduct regular maintenance, and adopt advanced monitoring technologies. Dewatering and proper drainage management are also necessary to lower groundwater levels. Using protective layers and soil stabilization around the canal can reduce permeability. Furthermore, education and training for irrigation workers and farmers are essential for efficient water management. The findings from this study are expected to provide a foundation for developing effective solutions to reduce water loss from seepage, thereby supporting agricultural sustainability in Sumbawa, NTB.
