Abstract

Developing new and renewable energy (NRE) is a sustainable solution to the current complexity associated with population growth and environmental problems. Some developed countries have recognized renewable energy development as a substitute for non-renewable energy such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas. Therefore, this study employed the geospatial approach scheme to identify the NRE potential in the Cipunegara watershed. This was achieved using regional research with a spatial approach and considering five locations in the upstream area of the Cipunegara watershed. Data were collected through observation, consultation with experts, and map interpretation, and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that only location 2 had a significant potential to be used in building a dam to generate electrical energy. This study was based on several aspects such as hydrology, morphology, topography, meteorology, erosion, geology, and land use. The results were derived from empirical data and geospatial modeling, and expected to serve as a significant reference for the central government in developing EBT as the tangible manifestation of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 program and the implementation of the national research master plan 2017-2045.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out and describe the use of GIS in mapping the level of landslide vulnerability in Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The model used referred to the estimation of the 2004 Puslittanak, as it utilizes parameters that are easy to measure, widely available, and in accordance with the territory of Indonesia. These parameters include rainfall, rock type, soil type, slope gradient, and land cover.  The research methods used were overlay, scoring, and weighting. In the mapping process, each parameter had a score of classification multiplied by the weight of each parameter, then the results of the multiplication of the scores and weights were summed based on the suitability of their geographical location. The results of the study showed that the Sibolangit District area had the potential for landslides from low, medium to high levels. Based on the landslide disaster prediction model, the study area predominantly fell under the moderate susceptibility class, covering 15 villages. Additionally, 10 villages were identified with low vulnerability level and 5 villages with high vulnerability level. The use of GIS was also used to see the size of each area in Sibolangit District based on the level of vulnerability to landslide disasters. The level of validity of this map is quite good because it uses official data and methods suitable for the territory of Indonesia. Thus, it is accurate enough for the purpose of vulnerability identification and landslide disaster mitigation planning.

Abstract

Remote sensing has become a significant technology in the analysis and monitoring of land use and vegetation. This technology allows for efficient data collection on a large scale and periodic monitoring of changes in land use and vegetation conditions. This study focuses on comparing the classifications generated from the interpretation of Landsat, Sentinel, and Pleiades satellite images in monitoring the same area. The problem often centers on the accuracy of the interpretation results from the images used, so this study employs three types of images to compare their accuracy using the accuracy test method of the confusion matrix. The land use and land cover in Cihanjuang Rahayu Village, based on the interpretation results from the three types of images, show results that are almost identical and complement each other.
