Abstract

The development of sugar industries in Indonesia is influenced by the capability of increasing sugar productivity every year. This increasing is important to handle problem that happened. One of the solutions of the problem, such as sugar loss and inefficiency energy was application of the cleaner production. PG. Tersana Baru have been doing efforts to minimize fuel consumption in milling station. This research objective were to design a processing improvement in milling station through cleaner production approach strategy in reducing sugar loss and increasing energy (steam and fuel) uses efficiency and to build a dynamic model on the influence of imbibitions water to water content of bagasse and sucrose content in milling station at PT. PG. Rajawali II Unit PG. Tersana Baru, West Java. The results of this research indicated a potency for application of a cleaner production approach in PG. Tersana Baru based data collected during 2007 milling season, of which the optimum of imbibitions water was 22.64 %. That condition was achieved in the 8th period of production with fuel energy consumption of 298,466 kcals/ton sugar cane. At this condition, there was possibility for annual energy consumption to be reached by 227,418 kcal/ton sugar cane or equivalent to Rp 764,184,666,153.00. The addition of water imbibitions at the milling process in the dynamic system simulation model was carried out at the interval of 21.20 – 35%. The results in water contents of bagasse of 49.21 – 62.74% and its sucrose contents of 0 – 5.18%.Keywords: Cleaner Production Approach, Imbibitions Water, Efficiency Energy Consumption, Dynamic System Simulation Model

Abstract

Abstract

The alkyd resin industry currently needs environmentally friendly raw materials, which emphasized the aspect of sustainability. Alkyd resin is a polymer product with oil as raw material which is widely used in the paint, coating, and other industries. The abundant demand for alkyd resin has led to a diversification of the raw material for alkyd resin from vegetable oils. The advantages of vegetable oil include being a renewable energy source for industry, sustainability, biodegradability, and being environmentally friendly as important considerations for the industry in recent times. This paper examines alkyd resins derived from several vegetable oils that are environmentally friendly. Alkyd resin is prepared by alcoholysis and esterification. Based on several studies of alkyd resins, there have been many modifications to the raw materials, technology, and catalysts used which can refer to an environmentally friendly and affordable industry.

Abstract

Corn is a strategic agricultural commodity due to its benefits and essential role in various sectors. It is not only used for food but also as a raw material for industries, including agro-industry and poultry feed. Approximately 40% to 50% of the raw materials for poultry feed are derived from corn. In the corn supply chain, fulfilling raw material requirements for poultry feed involves several risks that must be addressed, as they can impact the quality, quantity, price, and sustainability of corn. Therefore, it is crucial to identify existing risks, develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies, and implement effective supply chain risk management (SCRM) approaches. This study employs the PRISMA method to conduct a systematic literature review, synthesizing published studies on risks within the corn supply chain as a raw material for poultry feed. Data sources include Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Semantic Scholar. The initial dataset comprised 1,438 papers, which were filtered to include publications from 2015 to 2023. Using the PRISMA method, the selection process resulted in 124 final reports. The analysis suggests that sustainable SCRM approaches, such as the soft system dynamics methodology (SSDM), have significant potential for application in managing risks along the corn supply chain for poultry feed production.

Abstract

Abstract

Managing end-of-life tyres (ELTs) has become an urgent global issue because tyres are difficult to decompose naturally and take more than 50 years to break down. In the Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) area, ELT generation is estimated at 2.5–3 million units annually, with the most significant contributions from Karawang (1,000 units per month) and Bogor (820 units per month). Bias-ply used tires, which contain up to 70% rubber, have significant potential for recycling into raw materials for new tires through reclaimed rubber technology, aligning with the principles of a circular economy. This study aims to map the supply chain ecosystem of ELTs, identify key stakeholders, and optimise material flow to support the development of the rubber industry from reclaimed materials. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The number of research locations was determined using the Solvin method with an error rate of 25%. Observations were performed at 15 specific tire shops, two truck tire shops, three fleets, and three used tire collectors in the Jabodetabek and West Java areas. The findings indicate that the total estimated number of ELTs collected in Jabodetabek from tire stores, truck tires, fleets, and collectors reaches 2,860 monthly units. The main challenges in ELT management include limited storage facilities, low awareness of the economic value of waste, and a predominantly conventional management system. The study also reveals that only 20% of ELTs are utilised optimally, highlighting a significant untapped potential.  Keywords: used tires, reclaimed rubber, supply chain, circular economy
