Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of pressing duration and particle size on the pellet characteristics of sawdust. The study was conducted in a factorial completely randomized design using two factors. The first factor is the duration of the suppression which consists of four levels, namely 60, 120, 180, and 240 seconds. The second factor is particle size which consists of 40 mesh (fine), 30 mesh (medium), 20 mesh (coarse), and mixed. Sawdust is taken from a furniture industry in Bandar Lampung, then dried in the sun to a moisture content of about 12%, then sieved. Pellet molding was carried out with a mass of about 3 grams of material using a hydraulic press with a mold diameter of 12 mm. Sawdust is fed into the mould, then pressed by a hydraulic system at a pressure of 2 tons (172 Mpa). Parameters observed included density, moisture content, water absorption, pellet strength, pellet color, ash content and durability index. Each measurement was carried out with three replications. The results showed that the pressing duration and particle size affected the pellet characteristics. Biomass pellet made from sawdust had characteristics such as density of 0.813-0.856 g/cm3, moisture content of 8.19-12.15 %, maximum water absorption of 7.06-9.32 %, drop resistance of 99.41-99.66 %, and ash content of 1.087-2.082 %. Keywords: Density, Durability Index, Duration of Compression, Particle Size, Moisture Content.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding coconut shell biochar on biogas production from a mixture of chicken manure and cow manure. The research was conducted using a batch type digester with an active volume of 2000 mL. The substrate consists of a mixture of chicken manure and cow manure with a weight ratio of 1:1 and 3:1. Biochar from coconut shells is mashed and added at a rate of 3 grams. Parameters observed included ambient temperature, initial and final pH, biogas production and methane content in biogas. The results showed that the addition of coconut shell charcoal had a negative effect which was marked by a decrease in cumulative biogas production. The highest cumulative biogas production was obtained in the treatment without the addition of biochar, both K1B0 and K2B0. Biogas from the K2B0 treatment has a higher CH4 content than those of other treatments. Keywords: Biogas Production, Methane, pH, Substrate Rasio, Temperature

Abstract

Abstract

Continuous consumption of fossil fuels can cause fuel prices to rise and potentially cause shortages. One alternative renewable energy that can replace fossil fuels is biomass pellets. The use of manual biomass pellet stoves has constraints in controlling the amount of biomass burned, the amount of heat released by the stove, combustion efficiency, safety, and wasteful use of pellets. The purpose of this study was to develop a biomass stove using an automatic control system as a substitute for gas or electric stoves. This stove has the same principle and working method as gas stoves in general, but the pellet fuel is solid. This technology controls the temperature through the integration of temperature sensors, fan blowers, screw feeders, and heat insulators automatically. The results showed that the stove temperature value with the coefficient of determination value from sensor calibration 1 was R2 = 0.9945, sensor calibration 2 obtained the value R2 = 0.9956, the R2 value in sensor calibration 3 was 0.9946, and sensor calibration 4 obtained the value R2 = 0.9927. In the system response test, the device was able to reach a temperature of 300°C in 450 to 780 seconds. Stability testing for setting points 100°C, 200°C, and 300°C were 0.98, 0.82, and 0.53, respectively. The accuracy of the device was 92%. In the execution speed test, it took 2.5 to 4 seconds for the pellets to enter the fuel furnace.

Abstract

Duku (Lansuim Domesticum Corr)fruit harvesting is generally done manually by farmers in Indonesia so that the quality of the duku fruit, especially the uniformity of size, is not considered. The impact of this harvesting is a decrease in fruit quality and a decrease in selling prices. It is necessary to develop a new sorting machine for duku so that the fruit size is accurate. This research aims to make a sorting system for duku fruit based on size using a microcontroller on conveyor work. The sorting system uses two sensors, VL53L0X and FC-51. The design has a servo actuator to separate the fruit classes. This study developed a correct sorting of duku fruit sizes up to 97.4 percent, counting accuracy up to 99.4 percent, system stability up to 96.65 percent, and transient response of 100 ms. The result of testing this tool is that the ability of the Duku fruit sorting system based on size has a stability value of 96.6 percent. The transient response obtained is 100ms. The accuracy of the perfect sorting results is 97.4 percent, and the calculation of the number of duku using the system is 99.4 percent. The conclusion is that the researchers can create a sorting system based on size using a microcontroller on conveyor work.

Abstract

Rice is the main commodity processed into rice, as a staple food for the people of Indonesia. Pests and diseases can cause decreased production to crop failure. The method used by farmers is pest control by spraying chemical pesticides. However, chemical pesticides have serious impacts on plants, increased immunity for pests, increased chemical residues in crops that threaten human health, and environmental pollution. The objective of this study is to design an integrated high-tech trap that is effective, efficient, cost-effective, durable, safe, environmentally friendly (zero-emission), and low in operational costs, with the ultimate goal of enhancing farmers' income. This automatic pest trap embeds a microcontroller, infrared sensor, fan and solar panel. Observations were made on 4 tools, namely complete lures, yellow LED, lights and pheromones. Based on the observations, Scotinophara coarctata and Nilaparvata lugens were identified as the most commonly trapped insect pests in rice fields. The insect's fall speed was fast, namely 1 minute 4 seconds with good stability. Insect readings came in higher on the complete lure due to the combination of three lures, each of which has its own insect attraction. The effectiveness of insect capture on the complete automatic insect trap was the highest at 84.47%.
