Abstract

The flat-hull ship design is an innovative concept that saves costs and speed-up the fabrication of the ship. Even though the flat-hull ship was hydrodynamically inefficient, some shipowners probably experienced an issue with its unusual shape and disadvantages where drag is greater than that of conventional ships. This paper aimed to improve the design of a flat-hull vessel using hull vane and bow foil to reduce ship resistance. The asymmetric foil NACA 4412 and 0012 were used for the hull vane. For bow foil, only NACA 4412 is used. In addition, the angle of the strut of the hull vane was varied to find out the effect to ship resistance. This study was performed in a numerical approach using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The mesh-based CFD with RANSE solver was used in this study, and numerical analysis will be conducted to determine ship resistance of flat-hull ships with hull-vane and bow foil. It was found that the effectiveness of hull vanes on ships failed to improve resistance for flat-hulled vessels. Because of the addition of the WSA on the ship, the total resistance of the ship increases following the installation of the hull vane. As an alternative, using bow foil can reduce ship resistance at Fn 0.44 and 0.59 by 10% and 24%, respectively.

Abstract

Ship repair project planning still often encountered problems that delay ship repair projects to achieve complete ship repair projects. Delays are due to frequent mismatches between ship repair scheduling and conditions that occur at the shipyard. The most commonly used method is the Critical Path Method (CPM). But in reality, the CPM method is considered less effective because there is still safety time for each job. Technological developments found the latest method, namely Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM). This method removes the safety time contained in the CPM method and replaces it with buffer time which is placed at the end of work activities. This study aims to analyze the duration of the critical path, determine labor costs, and the amount of buffer duration on the repair of the Geomarin-III 649 DWT ship. Based on the calculation results obtained on the repair of the Geomarin-III 649 DWT ship with the Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) method is 10 days, 10 days faster than the normal duration. The labor cost obtained using the CCPM method is IDR. 54,017,500, saving 35% of the normal cost is IDR. 82,680,000, but if the buffer time is used thoroughly, the total estimated labor cost for the CCPM method will increase due to the addition of labor and the duration of the buffer time obtained by the CCPM method as a substitute for safety time, which is 9 days project buffer and 3 days feeding buffers. Based on this research, it was found that the CCPM method is considered effective and can accelerate the duration of the project and minimize labor costs.

Abstract

Over the decades, advancements in computer technology have significantly contributed to the development of numerical methods, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD). CFD encompasses two primary approaches: mesh-based and mesh-free methods. While mesh-based methods are well-established and widely used for analyzing free-surface flows, such as ship resistance, mesh-free methods like smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) have gained traction in real-world engineering applications. Despite its growing use, limited research has explored the application of SPH to ship resistance analysis. This study investigates the total ship resistance of a planing hull using the open-source SPH solver DualSPHysics. The research focuses on analyzing spray patterns and complex flow dynamics around the hull. DualSPHysics typically employs dynamic boundary conditions (DBC) as its standard boundary definition method. However, this study utilizes an advanced implementation of DBC, known as Modified Dynamic Boundary Conditions (mDBC), in conjunction with Project Chrono for enhanced simulation accuracy. The results demonstrate that SPH provides acceptable accuracy when compared to the Strip theory approach. Additionally, key parameters such as total force, sinkage, and trim are effectively reproduced using Project Chrono. This research highlights the potential of SPH, particularly with advanced boundary conditions, for ship resistance analysis and contributes to the growing body of knowledge in this field.

Abstract

Mesin roasting menekan biaya operasional hingga 80% dan meningkatkan produksi 33%, sedangkan mesin grinder meningkatkan kapasitas produksi 66% sekaligus membuka peluang jasa grinding kopi.
