Abstract

Food is one of the basic needs for fulfilling human nutrition. Especially in traditional food, the Bugis people have a habit of symbolizing the cultural cuisine they prepare. The purpose of this study is to explain the meaning of culinary through the name and form of kaddoq minynyaq. This is a descriptive qualitative study that employs Roland Barthes' semiology approach. The data collection technique applied was an interview technique with the aim of obtaining public opinion regarding the customs and beliefs of the Bugis tribe and the application of documentation techniques to obtain cultural archives in the form of images. Data analysis techniques began with data classification and continued with Roland Barthes' significance analysis. The results of this study are process-oriented; through the rampa aroma that is smeared on the kaddoq minynyaq culinary, it is hoped that the secret, in this case palliseq, will not be known by other people who do not know the people who carry out the tradition well. Through the analysis of témpa-témpa and kaddoq, it is hoped that society can uphold awareness of good behavior and the value of unity in order to obtain harmonious relationships.Keyword : Bugis, Kaddoq Minynyaq, Meaning, Naming, Shape

Abstract

This study aims to (1) find out the persistence concept of fisherman as described in the Old man and the Sea novel viewed from Makassar perspective, (2) find out the concept similarity and different concept between two different cultures. This study used a qualitative method to analyze a text in the novel and viewed it from Makassar perspective by taking a reference book of discussing the Makassar culture and then study from a cultural perspective of Makassar to strengthen this research, the research also interviewed to fisherman as addition data. The finding indicated that there are four concepts on how persistent of a fisherman in catching fish. The four concepts are 1) struggle, 2) sacrifice, 3) personal concern, and 4) religious obedience. There are similarities and difference in these four concepts from two different cultures is struggle and sacrifice.

Abstract

Advances in technology at this time not only to open mind but also changed the way humans communicate and interact. Forms of communication that are generally carried out face-to-face have now shifted a lot to virtual forms of communication on social media as intermediaries. Furthermore, communication on social media allows people to speak freely without thinking about language ethics and politeness. This virtual communication not only involves text alone but also uses emotions to represent a picture of their feelings. This research aims to find the use of official language on Instagram social media and to analyze the use of public officials' language when communicating on social media. The social media chosen as the subject of this study is Instagram which is widely used and accessed by internet users. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data source for this research prioritizes uploads by public officials only. The implementation of data collection in this study was a documentation method by collecting uploads of public officials on Instagram social media. The results of this study found that most public officials in private uploads had impolite comments seen in five factors, namely direct criticism with harsh words, encouragement of the speaker's emotional sense, protective of opinions, deliberately accusing the interlocutor, and deliberately cornered speech partners.
