Abstract

Benzene is a compound chemically volatile and lasts a long time in the air and quicklyinhaled into the human body. The use of benzene is widely used in various industries, one ofwhich is the printing industry. Benzene produced right in the printing industry are ink, cleaning fluid,and when the machine in operation. Workers exposed to benzene can risk cancer and non-cancer healtheffects that are harmful to the human body. This study aimed to assess cancer and non-cancer risk ofworkers in the printing industry X Surabaya City. This research is observational, cross-sectional withthe same sample with a total population of 11 workers in the printing industry X Surabaya City. Therisk assessment method uses four stages: hazard identification, exposure analysis, dose and responseanalysis, and risk characterization. This research shows that the average concentration of benzene is1.0729 mg/m3 or 0.34 ppm. RQ value > 1 both real-time and lifetime. As many as 63.6% of workershave real-time ECR >10 -4, and 81.8% of workers have ECR lifetime >10-4. This study concludes thatworkers are in an unsafe condition and have non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks.

Abstract

Introduction : Benzene is a volatile compound and widely uses as a solvent. In its work process, printingindustry used materials containing benzene. One of the target organs of benzene exposure is bone marrow.Therefore, the effect of benzene exposure is damage to the blood formation system.Methods : This research was an observational study with a quantitative approach and cross-sectional design.Subjects used 11 workers population of printing X Surabaya. All variables were analyzed by using rankspearman correlation.Result: The test results showed that most of the levels of benzene exposure exceeded the determined LimitValue. A total of 6 (64%) workers worked ≥ 10 years. The test results revealed significant benzene exposurewith changes in HCT and MCHC values. The average safe concentration of benzene is 0.01868. The resultsof safe C testing with blood profile showed that significant for safe C Benzene with red blood cells RBC andHCT (p<0,05).Conclussion : The results of the calculation of safe C benzene and blood profile of workers showed asignificant relationship between safe C and RBC and HCT. There was no significant relationship in WBC,HGB, MCV, MCH, MCHC.

Abstract

Perawat merupakan profesi yang memiliki tingkat stres yang tinggi. Stres yang tinggi diduga berperan menimbulkan penyakit kardiovakuler. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa hubungan stres kerja dengan risiko penyakit kardiovakuler. Rancangan penelitian cross sectional. Responden adalah seluruh perawat Rumah Sakit Islam Malang sebanyak 84 orang. Uji Chi Square digunakan untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat stres kerja dengan risiko penyakit kardiovaskuler.Sebagian besar perawat memiliki stres yang tidak normal yaitu sebesar 72,6% atau 61 perawat. Sebagian besar memiliki risiko yang rendah yaitu sebanyak 90,5% atau 76 orang. Jumlah perawat yang memiliki stres tidak normal mempunyai risiko penyakit kardiovakuler yang lebih tinggi yaitu 11,5% dibandingkan perawat yang memiliki stres normal yaitu 4,3%. Hasil uji Chi Square nilai signifikansinya adalah 0,321 artinya lebih besar dari 0,05 sehingga dapat disimpulkan tidak ada hubungan yang bermakna antara tingkat stres kerja dengan risiko penyakit kardiovakuler.

Abstract

Abstract: Risk characterization is end of the risk assessment process. Toxin agent can enter the human body by inhalation process, skin (dermis) and digestion process. The objectives of this research is to determine risk characterization of exposure to air pollutans on the health of sole services worker. This study was an observational study with cross sectional approach. 25 people of this sampel study were the total population. Independent variabels were age, weight, lenght of work in this sector, lenght of exposure time, number of working days. Dependent variabels were the concentration of CO, SO2 and NO2. Data were analyzed descriptively and the result of the data would be narrated and shown on the frequency table. Result the exposure assessment of carbon monoxide parameter on sole services workers were gotten the highest intake value was 0.2028 mg/kg/day and the lowest value was 0.0085 mg/kg/day, sulfur dioxide parameter on sole services worker were gotten the highest intake value was 0.0004028 mg/kg/day and the lowest value was 0.0000169 mg/kg/day, nitrogen dioxide parameter on sole services worker were gotten the highest intake value was 0.01238 mg/kg/day and the lowest value was 0.00051 mg/kg/day. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that RQ < 1 showed that air quality is still safe. But, in fact is still founded the lamentation of the health disruption and the uncomfort air condition arround the survey area. Research of Refferences of Concentration (RfC) will be needed, especially for CO, SO2 and NO2 parameter fi t of the characteristic of Indonesian people and especially informal sector worker in Surabaya.Keywords: Risk Quotient, Exposure of CO, SO2 and NO2, Workers

Abstract

ABSTRACTDust exposure received by workers can affect workers’s pulmonary function and health condition affected by many factors. This observation conducted on construction. The purpose of this research was identify description about pulmonary function and smoking habit at construction workers. Researcher used cross sectional study. The sample of this research was total population of finishing workers as much as 18 workers who doing construction project in Surabaya . Measurement of dust concentration conducted on three poin, by source of the dust, where workers are working and the outmost point. Research used questionnaires, measurement and inspection. The result of pulmonary function showed that six workers had lung function disorder. Pulmonary function measurement at workers used FEV1 and FVC to be the parameter. The result of measurement on point A is 1.6865 mg/m3, on point B is 1.3227 mg/m3 and on point C is 1.0625 mg/m3. Many workers complained that they felt cough in the morning and suffered about eyes irritation. Based on the result of pulmonary function measurement, the conclution is 4 workers had light obstruction and 2 workers had light restriction. Based on measurement, the average of total dust in the project area is 1.3425 mg/m3. Lung function disorder caused by smoking habit. The workers could stop smoking habit and reduce amount.Keywords: pulmonary function, dust, smoking, construction

Abstract

HIRA is a process to identify all risk factor in a company then attempt to quantify the risk and determine whether it is acceptable or not. This study aimed to identify and assess occupational risk in the fabrication plate process, tank 42-T-501A, at PT Pertamina (Persero) RU VI Balongan. It is an observational and a cross-sectional study based on research time. The object of this study focuses on PT Pertamina (Persero) RU VI Balongan’s fabrication plate, tank 42-T-501A, workers with a total population of 20 people plus 1 safety inspector. Primary data obtained through observations and interviews which afterward presented in the form of tables and diagrams to be analyzed descriptively. The result showed that there were 6 procedures with 24 potential hazards and 24 occupational risks in the fabrication process tank 42-T- 501A. Based on the result of risk assessment, there are 6 low risk hazards, 6 medium risk hazards, 11 high risk hazards, and 1 extreme risk hazard from the total of 24 hazards in the fabrication plate process tank 42-T-501A. Finally, this study concludes that the dominant risk in the fabrication plate process tank 42-T-501A is high risk (45%). Examples founded in high risk category are stricken by plate, light exposure of torch, fume exposure of torch, sparks of cutting torch, light exposure of welding, fume exposure of welding, sparks of welding, explosions of sandblasting tube and explosions of sandblasting hose.Keywords: hazard identification, risk assessment, fabrication plate

Abstract

Fatigue is a subjective feeling that different for everyone, which leads to loss of efficiency, decreases work capacity, health problem and the body's ability to survive resulting in work accident. The purpose of this research was examining the factors associated with subjective work fatigue on nurses working in dr. Mohamad Soewandhie hospital in Surabaya.This research was an observational study with cross sectional design. The respondents were nurses of emergency, outpatient, and inpatient units in dr.Mohamad Soewandhie hospital. The variables were individual factors were consisting of age, years of working life, nutritional status, gender, and occupational factors were consisting of the workload and the monotony condition of work toward work fatigue. Spearman correlation test was using to test the relationship of each factors, except the relationship of gender and the monotony condition were using  Mann-Whitney.The results showed that the most of the respondentss were 25-30 years old, female, 1-10 years of working life, had better nutritional status, had a moderate heavy workload and felt the monotony condition in her work. The result of fatigue measurement used the checklist which indicated that the most of the respondents experienced no relationship between age, gender, years of working life, workload, and the monotony condition the results also proved the existence of a relationship between nutritional status with p=0,00. It could be concluded that the nutritional status of nurse in dr.Mohamad Soewandhie hospital had a risk of causing fatigue.  Keywords: Individual factors, occupational factors, and work fatigue

Abstract

There are millions of workplace accidents in the world with the loss of hundreds of billions annually. One of the direct causes of accidents due to unsafe action. It stems from the lack of control by the management and the basic causes in the form of individual factors. This study is conducted to look at the factors correlated with unsafe action in the Department of Rolling Mill PT. X Sidoarjo. The research was conducted by observation using cross-sectional design and a quantitative approach. Questionnaires were administered to 70 respondents who were drawn using simple random sampling technique. The variables studied were safety inspection, knowledge, and unsafe action. Data was presented in the form of frequency distributions and cross-tabulations then statistically analyzed using Spearman correlation. The study was conducted using α of 0.05. The results showed that the respondents had a good knowledge, safety inspection in PT. X had been executed well, and had a lower category of unsafe action. There were a correlation between knowledge with unsafe action (p= 0.028; r= -0.262), and a correlation between safety inspection with unsafe action (p= 0.015; r= -0.288). It can be concluded that the higher knowledge and safety inspection, the unsafe action would be lower. Keywords: knowledge, safety inspection, unsafe action

Abstract

Introduction: Work fatigue decreases preparedness that raises the risk of workplace accidents. Some of the factors that cause work fatigue are workers characteristics, workload and noise. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between those factors and work fatigue among workers of PT Kerta Rajasa Raya in circulator loom unit. Metods: This is a descriptive observational study that uses a cross sectional approach. This study uses total sampling with a total member of 44 workers. The variables in this study are labor characteristics, including age, gender, years of service, education level, nutritional status, and medical history, which are obtained from questionnaire. Physical workload is assessed based on SNI 7269-2007. Mental workload is measured using NASA-TLX questionnaire. Noise is measured using Sound Level Meter. These variables are the independent variable. The dependent variable, on the other hand, is work fatigue, which is measured by reaction timer. Data are analyzed using Spearman correlation coefficient test (Spearman rho). Results: The results show that 27 workers (61.4%) experienced mild work fatigue and one labor (2.3%) experienced moderate work fatigue. Conclusion: The study concludes that mental workload has the strongest correlation with work fatigue (ρ = 0.509), while medical history has the weakest correlation with work fatigue (ρ = 0.034). Keywords: mental workload, noise, reaction timer, work fatigue

Abstract

Introduction: Working in a hot work environment has a negative impact on occupational health and safety. The impact on health due to work at temperatures above a comfortable temperature can affect body temperature and blood pressure of workers. The aim of this study was to analyze the differences in body temperature and blood pressure of workers before and after exposure to hot work climates at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Tanjung Wangi. Method: This research was an observational study with cross sectional approach. The population of this study was all workers at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Tanjung Wangi., with the total of 11 people. The sample in this study was obtained by total sampling method with a sample of 11 workers. The dependent variables in this study were body temperature, blood pressure, age, fluid intake, and nutritional status, while the independent variable was work climate. Results: Most of the grass lathe workers at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Tanjung Wangi has an age between 17-25 years, some of the grass lathe workers had a fluid intake with less categories with normal nutritional status. The measurement results showed that the average ISBB value was 28.8°C, this value still exceeded TLV. In addition, the results showed that there were differences in body temperature before and after work, from 36.04° C to 36.8° C. In addition there were differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure before work which was 112.7 mm Hg 77.3 mm Hg, and the average after work was 121 mm Hg and 83.6 mm Hg. Conclusion: There is a difference between body temperature and blood pressure before and after exposure to hot work climates.Keywords: blood pressure, body temperature, hot work climate
