Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of a combination of mycorrhizal fungi and watering intervals on kayu kuku (Pericopsis mooniana) grown on gold tailings media. This research was conducted at the green house of the Indonesian Mycorrhizal Association (AMI) Southeast Sulawesi branch for 4 months (March-July 2019). The study used a factorial randomized block design (CRD) with two factors being tested, the first factors including no AMF inoculation, using Claroideoglomus etunicatum and Septoglomus constrictum which were given 10 grams each. The second factor included watering every day, every two days and every three days, with three replications and three crop units. The results showed that the treatment combination of AMF type S. constrictum with daily watering intervals increased P nutrient levels on the shoot and root, while three days watering intervals increased Mn uptake on the shoot. The combination of AMF treatment for C. etunicatum and daily watering intervals increased the Mn level of the roots and the two days watering interval increased the P uptake on the shoots and roots. The best treatment was a combination of AMF type C. etunicatum and two days watering intervals which effectively increased P uptake of the shoot. Independently, AMF treatment for S. constrictum and two days watering interval were effective in increasing the levels and P nutrients uptake on the shoot. Keywords: Drought stress, Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi, Pericopsis mooniana, uptakeof nutrients.

Abstract

Abiotic stress is a limiting factor for plant growth and development. The use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can reduce the negative effects of abiotic stress. This study aimed to determine the tolerance of Nauclea orientalis inoculated with mycorrhizae to drought and waterlogging stresses. This research was carried out at the Indonesian Mycorrhizal Association’s greenhouse and Forestry laboratory University of Halu Oleo in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, from March to June 2019. The study used a factorial completely randomized design consisting of two factors. The first factor was Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) inoculations (A) consisting of a control, AMF types of Acaulospora sp.-1, and Claroideoglomus etunicatum.  The secod factor was environmental stress treatments (B) consisting of a control, soil moisture 25% of field capacity, 50% of field capacity, inundated as high the polybag (9 cm high) and inundated over the polybag. The results showed that local AMF was effective in improving plant growth. Interaction between inoculation of Acaulospora sp.-1 and environmental stress significantly increased AMF colonization on the N. orientalis roots. Inoculation of C.etunicatum significantly improved the N. orientalis growth. The treatment of drought stress with a field of 50% field capacity negatively influenced plant dry weight and the relative growth of the N. orientalis.

Abstract

Kalapi (Kalappia celebica Kosterm.) is endemic in Sulawesi and Endangered species. Plant propagation needs to be done but is constrained by limited seeds. Vegetative propagation of plants can be an alternative method such as using the root cutting technique that has been done previously on other types of species. This study aims to determine the success of vegetative propagation of kalapi (K. celebica), an endangered tree species by root cuttings using Rootone F. as root growth regulator. The research took place from March to June 2019 conducted at the plastic house of the Indonesian Mycorrhizal Association (AMI) Southeast Sulawesi Branch, Kendari. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 6 treatments of Rootone-F concentration: (a) 0 ppm, (b) 100 ppm, (c) 200 ppm, (d) 300 ppm, (e) 400 ppm and (f) 500 ppm. Each treatment was repeated three times and three units of the plant so that the total experimental unit used was 54 units. The results showed that the provision of Rootone-F could increase the success of the growth of kalapi root cuttings. Rootone-F concentration of 500 ppm gives the best results on the percentage of cuttings, percentage of sprouts, percentage of roots, number of shoots and shoot dry weight. The results showed that kalapi can be propagated by root cuttings. Keywords: root cuttings, Kalappia celebica, Rootone-F, Kendari

Abstract

Drought is one of the environmental factors that can inhibit plant growth and production. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) were reported to increase plant growth and tolerance to drought stress. Pterocarpus indicus seedlings were inoculated with three AMF treatments (control, Clarodeoglomus. etunicatum, and Septoglomus constrictum) at three watering intervals (watering every day, every two days, and three days) on a greenhouse scale. The results showed that the interaction of C. etunicatum and S. constrictum at various watering intervals effectively increased the height growth of Angsana seedlings. C. etunicatum and S. constrictum and daily watering each increased the diameter of the seedlings. The dry weight of seedlings and the number of root nodules of Angsana seedlings increased in various AMF treatments under daily watering conditions and tended to decrease with watering intervals. Local AMF has the potential to be developed to support the reforestation and conservation of the Angsana species in various land conditions, especially dry land
