Abstract

Gaharu adalah salah satu tanaman penghasil minyak atsiri yang banyak dijumpai di berbagai wilayah dan tipe hutan di Indonesia. Pemilihan gaharu sebagai bahan penelitian karena gaharu memiliki nilai komersial yang tinggi dan untuk memperoleh minyaknya cukup sulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan fermentasi terhadap hasil rendemen (yield) minyak gaharu. Percobaan ini didahului dengan persiapan bahan yaitu: pencacahan, penghalusan, dan pengeringan. Selanjutnya dilakukan proses ekstraksi dengan metode sokletasi menggunakan pelarut n-heksana. Data hasil rendemen dan kandungan asam lemak bebasnya dianalisis guna mengetahui kondisi proses yang direkomendasikan. Proses perlakuan awal fermentasi dilakukan selama 2, 3, 4, dan 5 hari dan proses ekstraksi dilakukan sebanyak 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, dan 18 siklus. Hasil proses fermentasi terbaik diperoleh dari perlakuan fermentasi selama 5 hari selama 12 siklus sebesar 0,3376 g minyak gaharu/g gaharu dan pada kondisi tersebut asam lemak bebas yang dihasilkan sebesar 6 mg NaOH/g sampel. Hasil bilangan asam yang digunakan masih memenuhi SNI dari minyak gaharu. Hasil analisis studi kinetika ekstraksi didapatkan model yang paling sesuai untuk substrat minyak gaharu, yaitu power law dengan nilai koefisien determinasi (R2) sebesar 0,95.

Abstract

Alat penukar panas merupakan salah satu alat yang digunakan sebagai perpindahan panas antara dua fluida yang memiliki temperatur yang berbeda. Alat penukar panas memiliki tipe dan desain struktur yang berbeda, salah satu alat yang digunakan yaitu Plate and Frame Heat Exchanger (PFHE). Tujuan penelitian PFHE ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kenaikan temperatur fluida panas masuk dengan perbedaan arah aliran fluida terhadap efektivitas penukar panas NTU (ɛ-NTU). Penelitian ini dilakukan pada temperatur fluida panas 39-52°C pada arah aliran searah dan arah aliran berlawanan arah. Fluida panas dan fluida dingin yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu air karena proses perpindahan panas yang baik dan tidak berbahaya. Dari penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa meningkatnya temperatur fluida panas masuk diperoleh kenaikan efektivitas penukar panas NTU (ɛ-NTU) pada arah aliran searah maupun pada arah aliran berlawanan arah. Nilai ɛ-NTU pada arah aliran berlawanan arah adalah 31,97-38,80% dan nilai ɛ- NTU pada arah aliran searah adalah 24,13-27,95%. Nilai ɛ-NTU pada arah aliran berlawanan arah lebih besar dari pada arah aliran searah. Ini menunjukan bahwa arah aliran berlawanan arah lebih efektif melakukan proses perpindahan panas dari pada arah aliran searah.

Abstract

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya Linn) have many health benefits, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antidiarrhea, and others. Papaya leaves contain tannins, saponins, alkaloids, triterpenoids, steroids, and flavonoids. The common characteristic of papaya leaves is the green color, which indicates the presence of tannins. The study aims to discover the characteristics of papaya leaf extract, the effect of the solvent ratio, and the microwave power (MP) on the extraction of tannins from the papaya leaves. Papaya leaves are extracted using the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method at 100, 140, and 180 W for 30 minutes, with variations in the material to the solvent ratios 1:10, 1:20, 1:30, 1:40, and 1:50. Qualitative tannin testing was carried out through color observation and FeCl3 tests. UV-Vis spectrophotometry was also used to determine the tannin levels obtained during extraction. The FeCl3 test showed that papaya leaf extract contains tannins. The optimal concentration of tannins is produced at a ratio of 1:20, with a 180 W MP of 8.06 mg TAE/g and a yield of 0.81%. MAE can potentially increase the yield of tannins, which is potentially beneficial to health.

Abstract

Agarwood powder, a by-product of agarwood processing, still contains valuable aromatic compounds, including sesquiterpenoids and chromones, used in aroma-based industries. However, its utilization remains limited due to the lack of simple and efficient extraction strategies. This study aims to investigate the effects of prolonged maceration time and agitation on the yield, acid value, and functional groups of agarwood resin extracted from agarwood powder using ethanol at a 1:3 (w/v) ratio, under agitated and non-agitated conditions for two and seven months. The results demonstrate that maceration time and agitation influence resin recovery and quality. The highest resin yield (4.537% v/w) was obtained after seven months of maceration without agitation, indicating that static conditions more effectively promote gradual diffusion and accumulation of high-molecular-weight resin compounds while minimizing mechanical and oxidative degradation. In contrast, agitated maceration resulted in lower yields (0.228–0.279% v/w) and higher acid values (10.9±0.85 mg NaOH/g), suggesting accelerated hydrolytic reactions and increased formation of free fatty acids, which may adversely affect resin quality. FTIR analysis showed that the principal functional groups of agarwood resin remained relatively stable under different maceration conditions. However, minor shifts in the O–H absorption bands suggested slight chemical changes, possibly related to enhanced hydrogen bonding and the formation of carboxylic acid groups during prolonged agitated maceration. These findings indicate that long-term static maceration has potential as a simple, low-energy, and sustainable extraction method to improve the utilization and commercial value of agarwood powder waste in resin-based industrial applications.
