Abstract

One of the nutritional problems often experienced by adolescent girls is anemia. Adolescent girls are categorized as having anemia if the hemoglobin (Hb) level in the blood is less than 12 gr/dl. The type of anemia that often occurs is iron deficiency anemia, which is generally caused by blood loss during menstruation and increased iron requirements during puberty. As an effort to overcome this, a sustainable anemia prevention program was designed through the formation and strengthening of the Anemia Ambassador Team. This strengthening is carried out by providing education about anemia to adolescent girls. The purpose of this strengthening is to form peer cadres who play an active role in the prevention and control of anemia in the school environment on an ongoing basis. This activity was carried out in Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Jambi City. The target of the activity was 13 people, with the FGD method and guidance. The results of the community service were obtained by forming ORSADA Cadres selected from peers who are expected to have a strong influence and be able to convey information about anemia, an increase in the knowledge of cadres about preventing anemia

Abstract

Anemia is a public health problem in Indonesia that affects all age groups, from toddlers to the elderly. In 2018, 32% of Indonesian adolescents suffered from anemia, and it is estimated that the majority of anemia is due to iron deficiency resulting from insufficient intake of iron-rich foods, particularly animal-based foods. Iron deficiency anemia is most common in adolescent girls due to excessive blood loss during menstruation, and their iron needs increase during puberty. This puts them at risk of decreased immunity, impaired concentration in learning, and complications during pregnancy. The purpose of this community service is to increase adolescent girls' knowledge about iron deficiency anemia. The methods used in this activity include discussion, mentoring, and persuasive communication. The target group for this community service were 25 adolescent girls from the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School. The results showed an increase in the adolescent girls' knowledge about iron deficiency, from an average of 78% to 97%. The adolescent girls are advised to actively seek information about the dangers of anemia and to pay attention to their nutritional intake to avoid anemia

Abstract

Overweight refers to a condition in which an individual’s body weight surpasses the normal threshold. Prevalence of overweight among adolescents in Jambi City has reached 8.13%. Insufficient nutritional knowledge and poor dietary practices greatly influence health outcomes and are major contributors to overweight, especially among Adolescent girl. This study sought to examine the association between nutrition-related knowledge and eating patterns with the occurrence of overweight among female students at SMAN 4 Jambi City in 2025. The study population comprised all grade X and XI female students, totaling 471 individuals, while the final sample included 83 respondents chosen through proportional random sampling. Data collection instruments consisted of a structured interview questionnaire combined with anthropometric assessments. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate techniques, employing the chi-square test. Findings revealed that a considerable proportion of respondents demonstrated low levels of nutritional knowledge (35.0%), more than half displayed unhealthy dietary habits (51.8%), and the majority fell within the normal weight range (54.2%). Statistical analysis confirmed a significant correlation between nutritional knowledge (p = 0.000) and dietary habits (p = 0.010) with overweight incidence. The study recommends enhancing nutrition and health education in schools, providing healthier food options in school canteens, and encouraging students to engage in regular physical activities. It is recommended that schools enhance nutrition and health education, provide healthy canteen options, and promote regular physical activity among students.
