Abstract

Heat transfer characteristics in rectangular with a sharp 180o turn have been examined experimentally using the naphthalene sublimation method. The sharp 180° turn was obtained by dividing a rectangular passage into two channels using a divider wall with a rounded tip at the location where the flow negotiates the turn. The channel cross-section (WxH) is 50×25 m, and three turn clearances of 30, 50, and 70 mm have been tested in this study. Local mass transferrates on all walls of the channel have been measured to clarify the heat transfer characteristics in the channel. The result indicated that the highest coefficient of heat transfer was achieved in the channel with turn clearances of 30 mm.Keywords: Heat Transfer Characteristics in Rectangular,Turn Clearances, Mass Transfers

Abstract

This research is intended to investigate the effect of NaHCO3 (Natrium Bicarbonate) percentage on the performance of HHO (Brown’s Gas) production using electrolysis method. Performance of HHO production that was observed in this research were electric power that used for HHO production as well as rate and efficiency of HHO production. Electrolysis is decomposition of water molecules (H2O) into hydrogen and oxigen molecules (HHO) using electricity in an electrolite solution. This process takes place when two electrodes (anode and cathode) placed in the water and direct electric current flowed through the system. In this research Natrium Bicarbonate was dissolved in the water to increase the rate of electrolysis process. Percentage of Natrium Bicarbonate was varied from 2,5% – 15%. The results show that electric power that used for HHO production and rate of HHO production were increased with the increasing of Natrium Bicarbonate percentage and reach their maximum value at 12,5% Natrium Bicarbonat. However maximum value for electrolysis efficiency was occurred for Natrium Bicarbonate percentage of 10%.Keywords: Brown’s Gas, Electrolysis, NaHCO3 (Natrium Bikarbonate), Performance of electrolysis process

Abstract

In machining operation, the quality of surface finish is an important requirement for many turned workpieces. Thus, the choice of optimized cutting parameters is very important for controlling the requied surface quality The focus of present experimental study is to optimize for cutting speed, feed rate, and radius chip breaker using two performance measures, metal removal rate and surface roughness. Response Surface Methodology (RSM). has been applied for developing models in the form of multiple regression equations correlating dependent parameters with cutting parameters and radius chip breaker, in a turning process. The central composite rotatable design was used to plan the experiment, and analysis of variance were employed to study the performance characteristics for three variable independent in turning operation. A second-order model which can describe the relation then to find combination between cutting parameters and radius chip breaker which resulting the maximum metal removal rate and minimum surface roughness. The experimental results reveal that the most significant cutting parameters for surface roughness is cutting speed, followed by feed rate and radius chip breaker. Based on the optimization results, recommended cutting speed, feed rate, and radius chip breaker is 35 m/mt, 0,2819 mm/rev, and 0,85 mm. By implementing this parameters, the surface roughness and metal removal rate is 2,18 μm and 6230,80 mm3/mt.Keywords : Surface Roughness, Metal removal rate, response surface methodology, turning

Abstract

Flooding phenomenon becomes a looses in countercurrent two-phase flow of air-liquid in vertical pipe. Water injector sattached in to the pipe prevents the looses occur. With the use of water injector, liquid will flow attached to the inside wall of the pipe, so the air will flow freely in the middle of the pipe. New design of water injectors in diffuser shape, will be studied to replace the old annular water injectors. 10 o , 15 o , and 20 o of water injector angle will be varied to find which ones can make slowing down flooding. This Research will seek water injectors with the most slowing down flooding, indicating by it superficial velocity, fluid flow, and flow patterns. Abetter Water injector is in whis have ability to handle higher flow rate and higher superficial velocity. The best water injectors in a row is a water injector with 10 o , 20 of angle.Keywords : two phase, counter current flow, flooding, water injector, flow pattern.

Abstract

It has been known from the previous researchers that the use of the heat radiation reflector can improve the efficiency of the LPG stoves. Based on the radiation theory, the radiation energy is emitted radially in all directions. Therefore, a kind of method to guide the heat radiation is required to minimize the heat losses. One of the method is to add some fins to the reflector in order to capture the potential heat loss from the non-finned reflector. In this work, we use one fin line reflector made from a plate of stainless steel in the shape of cutted-cone. The boiling water test is used to investigate the efficiency of LPG stoves. We find that the efficiency of LPG stoves can be increased by adding one fin line reflector by about 5.21% and 1.75% than that one without reflector and non-finned reflector, respectively. The result of the temperature distribution shows that one fin line reflector enlarges the area of complete combustion.

Abstract

In accordance with government policy to further optimize the utilization of renewable energy sources, and the policy of PT. PLN (Persero) to reduce the consumption of primary energy derived from fuel, then the PT Pembangkit Jawa-Bali (PT. PJB) plans to optimize the utilization of water resources in the Area PT. PJB Unit Pembangkitan Brantas that have the potential to be developed into minihyro power plants / hydro power plant with a capacity of under 10.0 MW. One purpose of this study is to anticipate the demand for electricity is increasing every year as well as to reduce dependence on primary energy derived from fossil tend thinning, as well as the concern of PT. Abstract

Leakage tube after tube expanding process is still occurred in PT. BBI Pasuruan due to imperfect material deformation. Material deformation cause by a change in material form due to external forces such as temperature, friction force, compressive force, and the torque style. Deform 3D was used in this investigation to determine the material deformation processes. Taguchi method design of experiment was also used to minimize the bad cause of the poor performance is also influenced by several variables or factors on the characteristics of the desired quality. The results shows that the combination to prevent deformation of the material in the condenser tube are the friction between the tool and the tube expander of 0.787 inch, the material used is stainless steel ASTM A 249 grade 2, tube expanding process temperature optimum of 89.6 F, and expander velocity of 0.708 inches per second.Keywords: Taguchi method, design of experiment, tube expanding, material deformation

Abstract

One type of multi-phase flow is the flow of gas-liquid two-phase. Two-phase flow is widely used in daily life and industry. One type of two-phase flow is air-liquid two-phase flow in opposite directions vertically. In the two phase flow of air-liquid in the pipe flooding, phenomenon in the opposite direction is a loss, so it should be avoided or restricted. To overcome this problem then we make the air injector to get the air superficial velocity corresponding. The design of injector that with shaped nozzle has varies diameter out. They are 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm. These varies diameter out of nozzle will be examined to find which one of the diameter out nozzle that can slow the flooding that can be seen in the most of the parameters such as superficial velocity, air flow and flow patterns. The results of these research showed that the varies d-out that has the ability to handle debit and best superficial velocity in a row is shaped air injector nozzle with diameter out of 8 mm, 6 mm, 4 mm. The greater the air flow and air superficial velocity the faster flooding occurs. Flow pattern before the onset of flooding is annular flow pattern. Flow pattern at the beginning of the flooding was wispy annular. And flow pattern at the time of the total flooding is churn flow pattern.Keywords : two phase, counter current flow, flooding, air injector, flow regime.

Abstract

Waterwheel is a means to change the water energy into mechanical energy in the form of torque on the wheel shaft. Working waterwheel by the large flow and high utilization of water falls. Today the water wheel still has a small efficiency when compared to water turbines that exist at the moment. Therefore, it still needs further research to improve the efficiency of the water wheel. The purpose of the study is to determine the performance of the blade thickness variation waterwheel flat blade type. In this study, using a kind of overshot waterwheel with a thickness variation of different blades of 0.3; 0.6; 0.9; and 1.2 cm and a water capacity of 10-20 m3/hr. Furthermore be obtained shaft power and efficiency of the water wheel. By using statistical analysis showed that the shaft power and efficiency is influenced by variations in thick blade. Abstract

The phenomenon of two phase flow can be foundin our nature, at the living bodyand industrial of the world. The flow of Fluid throughthe pipe bendshave a valuegreater than thepressure dropstraight pipeit’s was because the changes ingeometryandtrajectorythathave an impact onthe changeof flowpattern. This research aims to determine of theflowpatternandtwo-phase flowpressure dropthat occursthrough the 45° elbowfrom the horizontalto theverticalslopes upward. Diameter ofthepipe(D) 26.64mm, variationsthatdoaregasflow rate(Q ) (1 - 3) LPMandgasvolumefraction (β) (25 - 50) %. From theresults ofthis research we can concludedthat theflowpattern thatoccursisthe slug/plugflowwhere the greaterthe gasvolumefraction (β), the size of theslug/plugflowgreaterandinversely proportional to thepressure dropfurtherdown. Upheaval of two-phase flow patterns due to the influence of gravity occurs at the actual speed ratio of air and water (v ) at 1 LPM air 0.713 and 0.966 at 3 LPM air. The highestpressure dropoccurswiththe condition ofthe gasvolumefraction (β) of 50 %, actual speed ratio of air and water(v G /v L ) 0.764at107.415 Pa in theoretically and 214.616Paat experimentally.Keywords: 45 o elbow, flow pattern, pressure drop.
