Abstract

Critical congenital heart disease (CHD) requires immediate diagnosis and intervention, but its asymptomatic nature in early life presents a significant challenge for detection. This study aimed to determine the suitability of a common fingertip pulse oximeter as a low-cost screening tool compared to the standard neonatal pulse oximeter for the early detection of critical CHD. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 150 newborn subjects at a health center in Kediri. The results indicated that while the neonatal pulse oximeter measured pulse frequency and saturation more quickly, there was no statistically significant difference in the preductal (p=0.053) and postductal (p=0.099) oxygen saturation values recorded by the two devices. However, despite a weak positive correlation, a Bland-Altman analysis revealed poor agreement and reliability between the two instruments, with an average bias of 0.93% (95% CI: -7.38 to 9.24) for preductal and 0.74% (95% CI: -8.49 to 9.24) for postductal measurements. In conclusion, although no subjects were diagnosed with critical CHD, the findings suggest that the fingertip pulse oximeter is not a sufficiently reliable substitute for neonatal pulse oximetry in screening for this condition due to the poor agreement between the two methods.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused changes in various aspects. The government's policy in order to suppress the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the form of restrictions on outdoor activities is shown from the results of various studies to affect the increase in screen time and decrease in physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between screen time and physical activity in adolescents before, during, and after the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used was quantitative research with an observational study that was analytical and a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire on 135 adolescents, including students from SMAN 1 Mataram and SMAN 5 Mataram. The results of the statistical test of screen time with physical activity before, during, and after the pandemic were p = 0.430, p = 0.426, and p = 0.198, respectively. Therefore, in this study it can be concluded that there is no relationship between screen time and physical activity before, during, and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

NCIT has several advantages, such as quick measurement time, no need for contact between the device and the patient, and greater comfort for patients compared to measuring temperature using TDA or rectal digital thermometers. These advantages make NCIT suitable for use in PKM. However, previous research on the comparability of NCIT measurement results with TDA in neonates is limited and shows varying results. This study aims to determine the agreement of NCIT measurement results with TDA measurement results in neonates. The study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. 25 neonates participated in this study, with some having their temperature measured only once and others more than once, according to an agreement with their guardians. A total of 62 temperature measurement samples were taken after going through the inclusion and exclusion process. The measuring instrument used was the digital axillary thermometer (TDA), which served as the reference. Additionally, three types of non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs) were used to assess their agreement for this study. The sample data was analyzed using the One-Sample T-test, Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) method, and Bland Altman Plot. The ICC results indicated poor agreement of each NCIT with the TDA. The One Sample T-test indicates that of of the NCIT used does not have statistically significant differences compared to TDA, whereas two other types of NCIT do have statistically significant differences compared to TDA, The Bland Altman Plot analysis shows that the Limits of Agreement for each type of NCIT with TDA are still wide. From these results, it is concluded that these three types of NCIT cannot replace TDA as a body temperature measurement tool for neonates.

Abstract

Cage is a medium used in placing experimental animals in experimental-based studies to serve as learning instruments related to studying the cause and effect to be investigated. The size of the cage can affect several health factors in experimental animals, such as the social level and stress level of the animal. Formaldehyde is a carcinogenic compound that can cause malignancies if exposed continuously to living things. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine whether cage size can affect the degree of dysplasia in Wistar rats induced by 40 ppm formaldehyde. This study is a quantitative study that uses a true experimental research design with post-test only control group design. This study used male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) with a total of 15 rats divided into 3 groups, namely, a small cage group with a size of (27.5 x 21.5 x 9) cm3, a medium cage group with a size of (28 x 22.5 x 10) cm3, and a large cage group with a size of (30 x 24 x 11.5) cm3 with a total of 4 treatment rats (formaldehyde 40 ppm) and 1 control rat (untreated) in each group. The treatment given to rats was carried out 6 hours per day and lasted for 12 weeks until all rats were terminated at the same time. The rats were terminated and histopathological observations were made to assess the degree of dysplasia that occurred. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test showed a significant relationship (p < 0.05). This study shows that there is a relationship between the size of artificial cages and the degree of dysplasia in Wistar rats induced by 40 ppm formaldehyde.
