Abstract

In this pandemic Covid 19 situation, students and teachers must adapt with the new era in teaching learning process. Online learning requires many students to study more diligently in order to comprehend the material, such as providing advices. Additionally, the monotonous and teachercentred learning process bores more than 50% of students, causing them to lose interest in teaching and learning activities. The objective of this study is to describe the students' enthusiasm for implementing icebreaker activities after they learned how to give advice. This study used a descriptive quantitative method. The students' enthusiasm indicators administered eleven questions. The result indicated that there is a positive response to their enthusiasm, which can help them develop their critical thinking when it comes to learning English, particularly when it comes to providing advice materials. To summarize, this current research sheds new light on how to manage students' enthusiasm for English materials during synchronous and asynchronous teaching-learning interactions.Keywords: students‟ enthusiasm, ice breaker, giving advices

Abstract

Listening is one of the skills in learning English. The 11th grade students of IPA 1 SMA N 15 Semarang had low ability in listening. Therefore, this research was done in order to know the response of the 11th grade students of IPA 1 SMA Negeri 15 Semarang in English learning by doing listening a song as the media. The object of this research is the 11th grade students of IPA 1 SMA Negeri 15, Semarang. It is a descriptive qualitative study which employed observation and interview. The results showed that the 11th grade students of IPA 1 SMA Negeri 15 Semarang like to do listening activities, but they still had less exercises in listening to songs or watching English movies.

Abstract

Sebagian guru di SD Negeri Kembangarum 01 banyak yang masih gagap teknologi terutama mereka yang sudah jadi guru sejak lama atau senior karena selama mereka kuliah, teknologi komputer dan internet belum sebanyak sekarang. Berdasarkan paparan tersebut, semua guru dituntut untuk selalu mengembangkan diri sejalan dengan kemajuan  ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Tetapi pada kenyataannya kemampuan mereka cenderung relatif standar hanya mampu mengoperasikan microsoft words saja. Berdasarkan pernyataan tersebut, tim pengabdi kami memfokuskan pengabdian masyarakat pada pemanfaatan teknologi komputer pada guru SDN 01 Kembangarum Semarang yang berjumlah 21 orang. Adapun metode pelatihan yang dilakukan menggunakan metode ceramah, praktek, dan evaluasi kepuasan peserta pelatihan. Dari program pelatihan pengabdian masyarakat tersebut dihasilkan peningkatan kemampuan mengoperasikan microsoft words, power point, microsoft excel, pelatihan membuat email, dan pelatihan mendaftar website di wordpress. Para guru menjadi termotivasi untuk lebih menggunakan power point, dan website gratis sebagai media pembelajaran dan penghitungan dalam excel untuk mengevaluasi penilaian siswa baik ulangan harian, tugas, UTS, atau UAS.Keywords: aplikasi komputer, kinerja guru, sekolah dasar.AbstractSome teachers at Public Elementary School of Kembangarum 1 are technologically illiterate, primarily the senior ones, for when they were students the technology was not as high as it is now. Based on that, all of the teachers are asked to always develop themselves in line with the advancement of science and technology. I fact, their abilities are relatively standard, only able to operate Microsoft Word. Therefore, we conducted a community service focusing on utilizing computer technology for 21 teachers at Public Elementary School of Kembangarum 1 Semarang. Methods used were lecture, practice, evaluation on satisfaction, and training. Results of the community service showed that the ability to operate Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Microsoft Excel improved. Trainings on how to create an email and register a website on Wordpress were also given. The teachers were more motivated to use Power Point application and free-of-charge website as learning and calculating media in excel in order to evaluate the students’ assessments in both daily tests, assignments, mid-term test, and post-term test.

Abstract

Listening is the key to communication; if the students do not master it, they lose confidence and worry until listening to anxiety. This research explained about Analyzing foreign language listening anxiety and Online English proficiency test of undergraduate students at University of Muhammadiyah Semarang in which it aims to know the relationship between foreign language listening anxiety and listening proficiency test scores and to figure out the factors that influence undergraduate students' anxiety while doing a listening proficiency test. This research used explanatory sequential mixed methods design (also called a two-phase model) means finding two data in the same target. The instruments were collected by using a questionnaire and an interview. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (17.0) software in percentage, R-square, and significance. The subject of this thesis was 101 undergraduate students at Muhammadiyah Semarang University. The results of this research were 1) foreign language listening anxiety and English proficiency test were only number four that was the relationship. It was anxiety bothering them to encounter a word they could not pronounce while listening to English, such as when the anxiety came to their mind; they would panic and stress; 2) The factors that made the undergraduate students were anxiety in the listening proficiency test. Most of them were a panic, worry, and led them to be stressed and anxious in doing a listening test.

Abstract

This research was a study to examine the students motivation on speakingthrough talking stick and snowball throwing. It used descriptive quantitative. It meant that this research would find the students motivation toward the use of talking stick and snowball throwing method. The subect of research was the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Tegowanu. There were 44 students. The data analysis of this research were questionnaire and video documentation. Based on the research result, the students motivation of questionnaire were3.38 students response very good in the use of talking stick in the experimental class. Than, there were 3.00 students response was good in the use of snowball throwing method. It meant that the students have a motivation to the learning process especially in speaking skill. Meanwhile, the result of the video documentation showed that the students motivation became better than in the previous meeting. The students who really felt ashamed at the beginning now they are not as ashamed as before. The students be more confident that at the beginning they always hide their face and ashamed to speak up because of less confident. Even their motivation for sepaking much better after being given the method of talking stick and snowball throwing. Then, the researcher suggests that the teacher could use talking stick and snowball throwing method in teaching speaking to achiev students speaking ability.

Abstract

Reading skill is very important for students who mostly learn English through written text. They need some models from the teacher in comprehending reading text especially report text. This condition happened in SMA Negeri 1 Gubug. They still needed some models and attractive method in comprehending report text. They also felt less motivated and noisy when they read a text without any attractive activities. Therefore, this research is focused on the analysis of students ‘perception using Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition in teaching reading report text. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative one. It used questionnaire as the data collection. The results of this research showed that the students’ perception in reading report text using Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition had good responses and they joined the discussion enthusiastically. To sum up, the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition gives a good impact for the students’ reading ability viewed from their perception.

Abstract

This research aimed to find the significant differences of students' achievement in writing procedure text using team pair solo and think pair share, This research used a quantitative and experimental method. The research design was pretest posttest control group. The population was the students of class VII SMPN 33 Semarang by using simple random sampling was VII D as the experimental group, VII C as the control group, and VII B as the tryout class. The research instruments used were test and questionnaire. The result of the test is t arithmetic is lower than t table so the hypothesis is not accepted. It means that there is no significant difference of students achievement in writing procedure text between students who were taught writing using team pair solo and those who were taught by using think pair share. The result of posttest in experimental class is 77.61 and control class is 77.38.

Abstract

The learning process and life activities during the Covid-19 pandemic proceed through online social media, so there is a need for technological literacy. This activity also happened at the Pondok Pesantren Putri Sahlan Rosyidi Semarang where the academic abilities of the female students, especially the English language, were very diverse but there was still a lack of English-speaking practice programs that were integrated with digital literacy. Initial findings of the daily English-speaking ability of female students had an average of 65 which had to be improved again. Based on this statement, our team focuses on the implementation and training of Digital Literacy through the practice of speaking English for female students at the Pondok Pesantren Putri Sahlan Rosyidi Semarang, consisting 60 female students. The method used is descriptive quantitative by applying brainstorming, group discussion, explanation, speaking practices, digital platform, and evaluation of students' digital understanding of literacy. The results show that the implementation of the practice of speaking English based on digital literacy with an increase in the average speaking English rising to 81. In addition, the female students gave a positive response to the implementation of digital literacy and the practice of speaking that was trained. They were also motivated to practice conversation or monologue by utilizing digital technology.

Abstract

Students at Public Elementary School 03 Ujung-Ujung Pabelan learned English only in extracurricular activities, where grade 4 and grade 5 were joined in one class. The learning was done by memorizing vocabulary and learning the structure of English grammar. During extracurricular activities, students were not introduced to HOTS-based storytelling, they only learned English vocabulary and structures. Based on this explanation, students needed HOTS skills in learning English so that they can stimulate critical thinking skills in responding to reading and other English language materials. But in reality, they tended to memorize vocabulary and grammar relatively. Based on this statement, our service team focuses community service on the implementation of storytelling to increase student’s HOTS at 03 Elementary School Ujung-Ujung Pabelan Semarang, which had 42 students. The service method used is the lecture method, brainstorming, storytelling practice, and evaluation of the satisfaction of community service participants. The results show that the student’s HOTS in learning to read English stories, retelling what they had read, and increasing the students' critical thinking patterns. The students become motivated to retell story in English and the students improve their critical thinking patterns.

Abstract

Technology, education, and internet have been one of education’s part in this era. Learning independently is one of the choice for many students, not only effective to get understand but also time effectiveness are some of the reasons. All the thing that we learnt in the school is how to improve speaking, listening, writing, and reading skill. That’s why pronunciation become hidden subject which students don’t have to learn it. The problem in our education is English still foreign language for us, so it would be difficult to learn pronunciation autonomuosly or independently. Speechnote is one of the application which was created by WellSource for dictating spoken language to written language with high accuracy. The application helped students to learn pronunciation independently without being watched by the expert. The used method is descriptive-kualitatife and data collective which are recording and filling out questionnaire by 36 participants of students X.IS-1 SMA N 15 Semarang. The result of this research are the error of aplication, the accuracy of recording,recognizing misspronunciation, and the connection of increasing pronunciation by using speechnote.
