Abstract

Tahura Djuanda's efforts to maintain the sustainability of Castanopsis argentea are by ensuring the success of its regeneration, which is kept in the Tonjong nursery. Therefore, Castanopsis argentea seedlings require routine seedling health monitoring to determine the percentage of seedlings in the healthy, unhealthy, and dead categories. This study aims to identify the health of Castanopsis argentea seedlings in the Tonjong nursery, Tahura Djuanda. Sampling uses random sampling, which randomly analyzes seedlings in 1 bed with 150 seedlings; health identification is carried out using the cumulative method of Forest Health Monitoring (FHM) and the Environmental Monitoring Assessment Program (EMAP). Castanopsis argentea seedlings in the Tonjong nursery, Tahura Djuanda, were identified as 51.33% unhealthy seedlings and the remaining 48.67% healthy seedlings. Unhealthy seedlings are caused mainly by pest attacks that attack the leaves and shoots of the seedlings. Another cause is pine needles that stick to the leaves of the seedlings. Proper handling is using insecticides and artificial parents or moving the bed's location to the shade of broad-leaf trees.

Abstract

The protected forest area managed by Perum Perhutani in Sukalaksana village is dominated by pine trees (Pinus merkusii) and rasamala trees (Altingia excelsa). Coffee farmers in Sukalaksana village grow arabica coffee using an agroforestry system under pine and rasamala stands within the framework of joint forest management. So that the arabica coffee commodity can have optimal economic value, coffee farmers in Sukalaksana village need to observe the productivity of arabica coffee plants. The research location is in the protected forest area of Sukalaksana village, Talegong district, Garut Regency. The object of observation was the soil in coffee plantations, Timtim varieties of arabica coffee plants, planted using an agroforestry system with rasamala trees and pine trees as shade. Data were analyzed descriptively using an uncorrelated t-test and linear regression analysis. Descriptively, there is no difference in the fertility level of coffee planting soil on land shaded by rasamala and land shaded by pine. The productivity of coffee plants under the rasamala shade is higher than that of coffee plants under the pine shade. This is caused by significant differences in the branch-free bole height of shade trees. The rasamala shade has its first crown branch, which is higher than the pine shade.

Abstract

Physics learning is often perceived as challenging by students due to the abundance of formulas and abstract theories, as well as the lack of contextual learning resources. One approach that can be implemented to enhance students' interest and understanding is integrating local wisdom into physics learning through ethnophysics. This study aims to identify physics concepts in the Sigale-Gale puppet performance in North Sumatra and to analyze how the ethnophysical approach can be utilized to create more contextual and meaningful learning experiences. This research serves as an initial study of North Sumatran cultural performances in the context of physics. The method used is qualitative, in the form of a literature review. The results indicate that the Sigale-Gale performance encompasses various physics concepts, such as sound waves produced by gondang musical instruments, and the principles of motion, levers, balance, and acceleration embedded in the puppet’s mechanism. By applying the ethnophysical approach, students can gain a more tangible understanding of physics while also helping to preserve local culture. These findings can serve as a foundation for developing lesson plans (RPP) based on local culture, making physics learning more enjoyable, interactive, and meaningful.

Abstract

Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia Roxb.) is a tree species with high economic value. The latest data on the global rosewood population was reported in 2020 to be in a vulnerable state of extinction, due to exploitation and regeneration constraints. The initial step in analyzing to restore and manage the existence of a tree species in an area is to observe the population density, population distribution patterns and determine associated plants. The sampling technique was carried out by determining a quadrant of 20 m x 20 m with 37 sampling units. The average density parameters of rosewood per plot were analyzed descriptively, the distribution pattern of rosewood populations was analyzed using the Standardized Morisita Index and the determination of the type of association between rosewood and other species was obtained through the Chi-square Test and Percent Co Occurrence. The results showed that there was a decrease in rosewood density per plot from the seedling level to the tree level. The sharpest decline occurred at the seedling level to the sapling level. The analysis of the rosewood distribution pattern showed a clumped pattern with a Standardized Morisita Index of 0.628. Analysis of rosewood association type, showed that 34 tree species were not associated with rosewood, negatively associated with Orophea hexandra (Blume) and positively associated with Swietenia macrophylla King. Between rosewood and 9 other species has percent Co Occurrence = 0, which shows that there is no interdependence between rosewood and other species. This finding is an important basis for conservation and habitat management efforts, with a focus on the regenerative phase and interspecies relationships to support the sustainability of rosewood populations.
