Abstract

Leachate from the final processing site (TPA) has the potential to pollute the environment because it contains organic compounds, suspended solids, and microplastics. This study aims to analyze the effect of varying doses of polyaluminum chloride (PAC) coagulant and chitosan on the reduction of microplastics, COD, and TSS in leachate from the Randegan landfill. The method used was coagulation-flocculation with a jar test. The results showed that varying doses and combinations of coagulants affected the effectiveness of treatment. The combination of PAC and chitosan at the optimum dosage was able to reduce microplastics by 78%, COD by 86%, and TSS by 91%. The reduction in microplastics occurred through the mechanisms of charge neutralization, adsorption, and sweep flocculation. The combination of PAC and chitosan has the potential to be applied as an effective and sustainable leachate treatment method.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) operated under oxic–anoxic conditions with the addition of an external carbon source in the form of eco-enzyme during the anoxic phase on the reduction of COD and BOD concentrations in domestic wastewater. The investigated variables included oxic–anoxic duration ratios (2:1, 4:1, and 6:1) within an 8-hour operational cycle and eco-enzyme dosages (0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%). The results showed that at an oxic–anoxic ratio of 6:1, the addition of 1.5% eco-enzyme achieved COD removal efficiency of up to 87%, while a 2% dosage resulted in BOD removal efficiency of 89%. These findings indicate that the appropriate eco-enzyme dosage enhances the biodegradation of organic compounds and supports biological organic removal in the intermittent MBBR system by creating optimal reactor environmental conditions.

Abstract

Sektor pertanian merupakan salah satu penyebab adanya pencemaran lingkungan. Sampah-sampah yang ditimbulkan akibat kegiatan pertanian menjadi dapat menyumbang gas metana sehingga dapat meningkatkan suhu bumi bila tidak dikelola dengan baik. Mengkonsumsi lebih sedikit air dan energi, meningkatkan komposisi unsur hara tanah, menekan biaya produksi, meningkatkan partisipasi masyarakat, serta ramah terhadap lingkungan merupakan beberapa hal yang perlu dikaji untuk menerapkan revolusi hijau di pertanian yang sedang direncanakan oleh pemerintah. UPT PATPH merupakan salah satu perusahaan di bawah naungan Dinas Pertanian Provinsi Jawa Timur yang semestinya juga dijadikan percontohan dalam revolusi hijau. Berdasarkan pengamatan yang dilakukan secara langsung, pengelolaan lingkungan pertanian terkait dengan perawatan lahan, pengendalian hama, serta sistem irigasi (pengairan) telah baik, namun masih terdapat permasalahan lain seperti sampah-sampah yang dihasilkan masih diproses dengan cara membakar tumpukan sampah kering maupun basah sehingga bila dibiarkan akan meningkatkan pencamaran lingkungan yang dapat menimbulkan adanya penyakit. Adapun jenis sampah yang mendominasi yakni sampah organik yang berasal dari kegiatan pembudidayaan tanaman melon jenis Golden Langkawi yakni sekitar 108,58 kg/minggu. Oleh sebab itu, diperlukan adanya TPS Organik sehingga dapat digunakan kembali menjadi kompos dan menimalisir adanya timbulan sampah.
