Abstract

Fakultas Teknik dan Sains (FTS) Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur memiliki tujuh program studi dengan aktivitas laboratorium kimia yang berpotensi menghasilkan limbah Bahan Berbahaya dan Beracun (LB3). Saat ini, pengelolaan LB3 masih dilaksanakan secara mandiri oleh tiap laboratorium. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang Tempat Penyimpanan Sementara LB3 (TPSLB3) yang sesuai dengan spesifikasi teknis Peraturan menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan No. 6 Tahun 2021. Metode penelitian secara deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pengumpulan data dilaksanakan melalui pengukuran langsung, dan estimasi timbulan limbah berdasarkan data inventarisasi dan wawancara dengan laboran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan total timbulan harian terdiri dari limbah dari laboratorium yang mengandung B3 (3,964 L/hari), limbah terkontaminasi B3 (2,266 kg/hari), kemasan bekas (0,107 kg/hari), lampu TL (0,043 kg/hari), baterai bekas (0,004 kg/hari), dan cartridge bekas (0,007 kg/hari). Berdasarkan data tersebut, dirancang TPSLB3 berupa bangunan permanen dengan ruangan berdimensi 10,8 m x 5,1 m x 4,2 m dengan masa simpan maksimal 180 hari. Fasilitas penyimpanan dilengkapi dengan sistem keselamatan berupa lampu explosion proof, APAR, bak penampung ceceran, pintu darurat serta 9 blok penyimpanan tersegregasi berdasarkan karakteristik mudah menyala, korosif, dan beracun.

Abstract

Industrial batik wastewater contains total chromium, a heavy metal that can pollute aquatic environments. This study aims to evaluate the performance of a fixed-bed adsorption reactor in reducing total chromium concentrations in batik wastewater using coconut shell, corn cob, and zeolite adsorbents. The batik wastewater was obtained from Jemursari, Surabaya, with an initial total chromium concentration of 2.349-2.374 mg/L and a pH of 8. The bioadsorbents were prepared through carbonization at 500–600 °C, followed by chemical activation using 3 M H?PO?. The adsorption process was conducted continuously in a 5 L laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor, with sampling times at 10, 40, 70, and 100 minutes. The results showed that total chromium removal efficiency increased significantly within the first 40 minutes for all adsorbents. The highest removal efficiency was achieved using zeolite at 87.8%, followed by coconut shell at 81.9% and corn cob at 73.1%. The superior performance of zeolite was attributed to its ion-exchange mechanism and physical properties, which are well-suited to continuous-flow systems. Abstract

Kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk menyamakan persepsi antara pemangku kepentingan dalam pemenuhan data dan informasi pada persetujuan teknis pembuangan emisi sektor pertambangan. Pelatihan dilaksanakan pada Rabu, 16 Juli 2025 di Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Provinsi Jawa Timur, dengan peserta yang terdiri dari konsultan lingkungan dan pemrakarsa kegiatan pertambangan di wilayah Jawa Timur. Materi pelatihan mencakup metode penyusunan inventaris emisi berbasis EMEP, teknik perhitungan emisi, serta pemodelan dispersi menggunakan AERMOD. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui pemaparan materi dan diskusi interaktif berbasis studi kasus. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta terkait standar penyajian data emisi, metode perhitungan yang sesuai, serta kemampuan dalam melakukan pemodelan dan interpretasi hasil AERMOD. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kualitas dokumen persetujuan teknis serta mendukung pengambilan keputusan berbasis data dalam pengendalian pencemaran udara.

Abstract

Food waste is the dominant component of organic waste generation in Indonesia and drives environmental pollution via greenhouse gas release, particularly methane. This research is conducted to examine the potential of food waste as a biogas feedstock, the influence of the influence of different ratios of food waste and cattle manure on methane yield (CH₄) production, and assess the potential conversion of biogas into electrical energy using a Thermoelectric Generator (TEG). The research was conducted on a laboratory scale using a 15 L batch-type anaerobic digester with food waste to cattle manure ratios of 50:50 and 74:26. The analyzed parameters included C/N ratio, pH, temperature, methane concentration, biogas volume, and electrical power generated from thermal energy conversion through biogas combustion using a SP1848 Thermoelectric Generator. The results indicate that substrate composition significantly affects fermentation pH stability, temperature, and methane content, with certain compositions producing higher CH₄ percentages and greater potential for electricity generation. Although the energy conversion efficiency of the Thermoelectric Generator remains relatively low, this study demonstrates that food waste has promising to be developed as a sustainable alternative energy resource and can contribute to sustainable waste management and environmentally friendly energy production.

Abstract

The waste collection system on campus has become a strategic challenge as the academic community continues to grow. This case study aims to analyze the characteristics of waste generation and optimize waste collection routes from building collection points to the Temporary Storage Site (TPS) at UPN “Veteran” East Java. The weight and volume of waste generated data were obtained through measurements taken over eight days in accordance with SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) standards. The Saving Matrix method was applied to develop optimal transportation routes to reduce the total daily distance traveled. The results of the study show that the total waste generated reached 11.525 m3/day. The implementation of the Saving Matrix method successfully improved operational efficiency significantly, with a 22,7% reduction in total daily travel distance compared to existing conditions. The results of this analysis provide a tangible contribution to campus facilities and infrastructure management in designing a waste transportation system that is more effective, measurable, and operationally efficient.

Abstract

Domestic and academic activities at UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur generate significant amounts of solid waste, while the existing management system still applies a conventional linear approach (collect–transport–dispose). This study aims to identify existing conditions, analyze waste characteristics, and formulate a technical design for a Zero Waste-based TPS 3R facility. Sampling results showed that waste generation reached 943.641 kg/day (11.525 m³/day), dominated by food waste (26.52%) and garden waste (12.43%), followed by cardboard (8.57%), PP/Polypropylene plastic (7.63%), and LDPE/Low Density Polyetylene plastic (7.34%). The absence of source segregation causes mixed waste to enter the facility, resulting in low recovery rates and high dependence on landfill disposal. To improve management efficiency, a TPS (Tempat Penampungan Sementara) 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) operational scenario was developed by directing organic waste to Black Soldier Fly (BSF) bioconversion and In-Vessel Composting, recyclable inorganic materials to the recycling industry, non-recyclable plastics to Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and pyrolysis processes, and hazardous waste (B3) to licensed operators. This integrated management system reduces final landfill residue and achieves a waste reduction target of 72,81%. The facility is designed with a one-way operational flow consisting of receiving and sorting areas, processing units, product storage, leachate treatment, residue storage, offices, parking areas, and sanitation facilities.

Abstract

Cerobong berfungsi penting dalam sistem ventilasi industri untuk mengalirkan gas buang secara aman ke atmosfer sekaligus mengendalikan pencemaran udara. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi kondisi eksisting Cerobong Grinding RIM di industri velg baja serta merancang perbaikan sesuai standar teknis nasional. Metode penelitian mencakup identifikasi masalah, studi literatur, pengumpulan data primer dan sekunder, analisis, serta rekomendasi teknis. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa dimensi cerobong, khususnya panjang dari titik sampling ke bawah, belum memenuhi ketentuan Lampiran III PermenLHK Nomor 11 Tahun 2021. Selain itu, ketinggian cerobong berada dalam zona cavity akibat bangunan sekitar, sehingga berpotensi menahan polutan di permukaan tanah. Rekomendasi perbaikan meliputi penyesuaian dimensi sampling dan peninggian cerobong melebihi 12 meter untuk mencapai standar Good Engineering Practice (GEP). Perbaikan ini diharapkan meningkatkan efektivitas dispersi polutan dan mendukung pengendalian pencemaran udara di sekitar area industri.

Abstract

The fertilizer industry PT X produces liquid waste from various production processes that have the potential to pollute the environment if not managed properly. This study aims to examine the performance of utilizing treated water from the communal Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) as a water scrubber medium in controlling gas emissions at Plant Unit II. The research method is descriptive with an observational approach through field observations, interviews, and analysis of WWTP operational data and emission quality test results. The results show that treated water from the communal WWTP can be utilized effectively without reducing emission control performance. The particulate concentration in the scrubber stack was recorded at around 9-10% of the quality standard, while the fluorine and ammonia concentrations were in the range of 29-69% and 7-11% of the quality standard of LHK Regulation Number 17 of 2019, respectively. The utilization of treated water reached 25–32% of the communal wastewater treatment plant discharge, thereby contributing to reducing the use of clean water. The water remaining from the water scrubber process is returned to the communal wastewater treatment plant for reprocessing, forming a recirculation system that increases resource efficiency, reduces liquid waste, and supports air pollution control. The novelty of this research lies in the assessment of the integration of treated water from communal wastewater treatment plants into water scrubber systems as a unified approach to wastewater management and emission control in the fertilizer industry in Indonesia, this reflects the application of the principles of zero waste, clean production, and circular economy in supporting environmental sustainability and company performance in the Program Penilaian Peringkat Kinerja Perusahaan (PROPER).

Abstract

Penggunaan boiler memiliki peran yang sangat penting dalam menunjang proses produksi pada berbagai industri salah satunya industri kayu. Boiler dapat menghasilkan panas yang berasal dari perebusan air yang nantinya akan menghasilan uap panas. Uap panas yang dihasilkan nantinya akan dialirkan ke dalam berbagai unit produksi yang membutuhkan energi panas. Penelitian ini menganalisis emisi gas buang dari pembakaran limbah kayu pada boiler di salah satu industri pengolahan kayu di Gresik, Jawa Timur, dengan pendekatan perhitungan stoikiometrik. Kayu bakar yang digunakan memiliki komposisi kimia dominan berupa karbon (43,43%), oksigen (48,21%), dan hidrogen (6,58%). Proses pembakaran dianalisis berdasarkan neraca massa dan kebutuhan oksigen, untuk memperkirakan laju alir mol dan konsentrasi emisi yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa emisi yang dihasilkan, seperti partikulat (124,258 mg/Nm³), SO₂ (87,712 mg/Nm³), dan NO₂ (160,109 mg/Nm³), masih berada jauh dibawah ambang batas yang ditetapkan dalam Permen LH No. 7 Tahun 2007. Dengan demikian, proses pembakaran limbah kayu pada boiler ini dapat dikategorikan aman bagi lingkungan. Kata kunci: Boiler, Emisi, Stoikiometri

Abstract

PT X sebagai produsen pupuk terbesar di Indonesia menghasilkan limbah Bahan Berbahaya dan Beracun (B3) berupa sludge dari Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah (IPAL) yang terus meningkat seiring peningkatan kapasitas produksi, mencapai 24,25 ton pada Triwulan IV 2024. Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan menganalisis kelayakan teknis pemanfaatan sludge IPAL sebagai bahan substitusi dalam produksi pupuk NPK di PT X. Metode penelitian menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data primer dan sekunder meliputi karakterisasi sludge, dokumen teknis, dan informasi proses produksi. Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan sludge mengandung P₂O₅ total 11,6%, CaO 26,1%, N total 2,33%, yang berpotensi sebagai sumber fosfor dan kalsium meskipun kadar nitrogen dan kalium masih di bawah standar SNI 2803:2012. Sludge dikategorikan sebagai limbah B3 kode B301-7 yang dimanfaatkan melalui proses pengeringan, pengujian laboratorium, dan pencampuran dalam produksi pupuk NPK granulasi dan reaksi dengan batas maksimal 1% dari kapasitas produksi. Pemanfaatan sludge mengurangi volume limbah B3 yang harus dikelola pihak ketiga, meminimalkan biaya transportasi dan disposal, serta mendukung prinsip industri hijau sesuai Peraturan Menteri Perindustrian Nomor 50 Tahun 2020. Program ini berkontribusi pada peningkatan kinerja lingkungan melalui aspek beyond compliance PROPER dan pencapaian SDG 6, SDG 9, dan SDG 12, sehingga memberikan rekomendasi strategis optimalisasi pengelolaan limbah B3 yang mendukung efisiensi produksi dan kinerja keberlanjutan perusahaan.
