Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure more than 140/90 mmHg. Honey has the potential to reduce blood pressure because it has 200 chemical substances. This study aims to ford the effectiveness of giving honey to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels in hypertensive patients, as well as knowing the content of secondary metabolites found in honey. The research method used was semi quantitative with pre and post procedurs. Honey contains secondary metabolites of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The results of the analysis of honey give a significant decrease in systolic pressure, diastole, heart rate and cholesterol levels. Consumption honey regularly effectively reduces blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Kidney stones are a disease that occurs due to the deposition of compounds that are difficult to dissolve because the body lacks fluids. Bawang Tiwai (Eleutherine americana (Aubl.) Merr) is an endemic Dayak plant in Kalimantan which has been traditionally used as traditional medicine dayak’s people. One of the active components is flavanoid which can dissolve kidney stones. This study aims to determine the concentration activity of the bawang tiwai roots extract to dissolve kidney stone calcium. The extract was made by maceration method using ethanol 96%. The extraction activity testing used 5 treatments namely 1 ppm, 2 ppm, 3 ppm, negative control (distilled water) and positive control (elixir stone). Kidney stones were then added as much as 10 mg to each treatment. After the addition of kidney stones in each treatment incubation for 3 hours at 37 ?. Calcium solubility activity was seen by using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer by measuring the absorbance value of each test concentration. The results showed that the 3 ppm concentration was the optimal concentration in dissolving kidney stone calcium in vitro.

Abstract

Betel plant is a terna plant that can be used as an antifungal, antimicrobial and antioxidant. Black betel leaf is proven to contain secondary metabolites of alkaloids, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, flavanoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, and triterpenoids. Gel preparations are used aimed at prolonging the contact time of the preparation with the target location, extending the absorption time and increasing the therapeutic effect. This study aims to determine the characteristics of gel extract of black betel leaf. Black betel leaf extract was obtained by macerating with 70% ethanol into an oral gel preparation as an antimicrobial with carbopol concentration variations. The results of antimicrobial test showed that 5% concentration of black betel leaf extract could increase the growth of Streptoccus sanguinis with inhibition zone diameter 6.261 ± 1.425mm and Candida albicans with inhibition zone diameter 5.152 ± 0.952mm. Black betel leaf extract gel formula F3 with 1.5% carbopol concentration is the best formula that has greenish black, betel and mint flavored, and has a thick and homogeneous shape. It has a viscosity of 2.266 Pa.s, has a pH of 5.37 and spread power 4.37cm.

Abstract

Cooking oil is used to fry foods. The longer and more frequent the cooking oil being used, more its quality is getting lower. The goal of this research is to know if there is an effect of adding grapefruit peels due to the quality of cooking oil that has been used several times. Grapefruit peel contains lycopene which can reduce oxidation process. By adding grapefruit peel, we hope its can reduce the lowering quality. The orientation shows that 3% grapefruit peel weight/weight is the most efficient concentration to be used. And with 3% grapefruit peel weight/weight, the results shows a big difference between cooking oil with no grapefruit peel addition and cooking oil with grapefruit peel addition. Keywords: Cooking oil, frying, grapefruit peel, quality of cooking oil ABSTRAK Minyak goreng digunakan untuk memasak bahan makanan. Semakin lama dan semakin sering minyak goreng digunakan, kualitasnya akan semakin menurun. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek dari penambahan kulit Jeruk Bali pada kualitas minyak goreng yang mengalami pemanasan berulang. Kulit Jeruk Bali merupakan produk waste (buangan) yang mengandung likopen yang dapat mengurangi proses oksidasi. Dengan menambahkan kulit Jeruk Bali, diharapkan dapat mencegah penurunan kualitas minyak goreng. Dari penelitian didapatkan hasil bahwa 3% B/B kulit Jeruk Bali merupakan konsentrasi terbaik yang dapat digunakan. Pada studi ini minyak goreng yang diberi tambahan kulit Jeruk Bali dengan konsentrasi 3% B/B menunjukkan perbedaan yg besar pada beberapa parameter SNI dibandingkan dengan minyak goreng tanpa pemberian kulit Jeruk Bali setelah dipanaskan. Abstract

Tanaman yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang baik berpotensi digunakan sebagai tabir surya. Daun miana (Coleus atropurpureus L. Benth.) memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang baik. Uji aktivitas tabir surya ekstrak etanol dan fraksi etil asetat daun miana dilakukan secara in vitro menggunakan spektrofotometer UV Vis pada panjang gelombang 290-375 nm. Kategori terbaik tabir surya ekstrak etanol dan fraksi etilasetat daun miana adalah kategori sunblock dengan konsentrasi masing-masing adalah 200 ppm dan 100 ppm.
