Abstract

This scoping study aimed to explore the use of hypnotic-based interventions for individuals with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Four research questions were addressed: the types of hypnosis-based interventions, the types of NCDs studied, the targeted outcomes, and the evidence of effectiveness. Using Arksey and O'Malley's framework, a systematic search of databases (Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed) was conducted from March to April 2021. Studies published in English between 2001 and 2021, employing Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), were included. Out of 6,382 unique records, 11 primary studies met the inclusion criteria, encompassing 589 participants across four NCD subgroups: diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Five types of hypnotic interventions were identified: mindfulness, relaxation, self-hypnosis, hypnotherapy, and cognitive behavior therapy plus hypnosis. The outcomes assessed included pain, fatigue, anxiety, sleep quality, dyspnoea, emotion, panic, and quality of life. While the results suggest that hypnotic-based interventions hold promise as supportive therapy for NCD patients, especially in addressing psychological symptoms, the evidence remains inconclusive. Further research is needed to establish the overall effectiveness of hypnosis in this context. Nonetheless, these findings highlight the potential of hypnosis to complement medical treatments for NCDs.

Abstract

Anxiety is a common occurrence among individuals facing transitions in life phases, including students who have certain hopes, goals, and standards of living related to their future. As they near the end of their studies, in addition to their final assignments, envisioning the future also becomes a source of anxiety for students. Anxiety is influenced by cognitive performance, especially the perception of things not yet experienced. Anxiety about the future is influenced by negative perceptions of things not yet experienced. One effective therapy in reducing this anxiety is positive thinking therapy. This study aims to prove the effect of positive thinking therapy on 17 male and female students aged between 20 – 24 years old. The participants were selected by purposive sampling method and obtained 17 participants. The 17 participants were randomly divided into two groups, as control and experimental groups. The experiments conducted with repeated measure control group design. The result of repeated measure from the experimental group showed F = 28.2, p < 0.01 and control group showed F = 46,1 and p < 0.01. Meanwhile, the results of independent sample t-test analysis showed a score of F = 2.25 with P < 0.05. The result showed that positive thinking therapy is capable to decrease the symptoms of future anxiety.

Abstract

Depression and anxiety are strong indicators of difficulties in the process of recentering during emerging adulthood. Although various interventions exist to address these issues, group psychosynthesis offers efficient treatment in developing countries. This case report highlights the experiences of seven university students who participated in Empathic Love Therapy (ELT) group to reduce depression and anxiety, as measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire Anxiety and Depression (PHQ-ADS) scale (d = 1.79; p < .01). The application of psychosynthesis through the Empathic Love Therapy (ELT) module in a group setting demonstrates potential as a cost-effective option for primary healthcare professionals, particularly in addressing the rising number of students at risk of self-harm or suicide.

Abstract

Unemployed individuals are highly susceptible to depressive disorders that impact their cognitive dynamics. Rumination, commonly observed in individuals with depressive disorders, reinforces depressive affect. Addressing rumination is crucial for cognitive management, ultimately alleviating depressive symptoms. This single-case study investigates the effectiveness of rumination-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (RFCBT) on a 24-year-old unemployed female. Assessments involved interviews, observations, the PHQ-9, and EPPS, followed by 10 intervention sessions, including 8 therapy sessions. Post-intervention results, measured using the Reliability Change Indicator (RCI) on pre-and post-treatment PHQ-9 scores, demonstrated a significant score reduction of 17 points (89.47%). Descriptive data from semi-structured interviews corroborated these findings.

Abstract

This study investigates the representation of mental health issues associated with Buddhist meditation in academic literature, emphasizing English and Indonesian sources from a Global South viewpoint. The research employs a systematic literature review, utilizing subscription-based English databases like Scopus and open-access Indonesian platforms, including Google Scholar, accessed through Publish or Perish. This methodology selects 60 pivotal publications for their citation impact, timeliness, and historical importance. The investigation utilizes Visvanathan's Cognitive Justice framework within the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies to rigorously assess the epistemic inclusivity of knowledge systems. The results indicate three notable insights. Buddhist meditation is universally acknowledged across various sources as a fundamental practice associated with mental health discourse. Secondly, both English and Indonesian texts emphasize the interaction between Buddhism as an Eastern spiritual tradition and Western psychological and psychiatric paradigms. Indonesian sources specifically examine the impact of state hegemony on Buddhist meditation, highlighting its designation as a religion under Indonesia's monotheistic framework. The study highlights the socio-political factors influencing sacred and profane tales in Indonesia, especially with state-imposed religious classifications. This research highlights critical insights into the impact of socio-political processes in the Global South on the relationship between Buddhist meditation and mental health.

Abstract

This study examines the ethical aspects of mental health advocacy for Indonesian university students atrisk of suicide, highlighting the constraints of prevailing Western psychological frameworks that emphasize biomedical secrecy and autonomy. These standardized techniques can engender estrangement and overlook Indonesian students’ cultural and community realities. This study utilizes an autoethnographic approach rooted in Buddhist psychology and the concept of cognitive justice to demonstrate how academic settings influenced by cognitive capitalism exacerbate mental health issues. The research presents an ethical alternative grounded in Buddhist principles, including Bodhicitta (altruistic intention), Anattā (non-self), and Kalyāṇamitta (spiritual friendship), emphasizing community healing and relational support. Lecturer-counselors are essential figures, delivering non-clinical, culturally relevant support that connects institutional procedures with students’ real-life experiences. The study attempts inflexible confidentiality standards in Western mental health procedures, contending that they may heighten suicide risk by isolating peers and family from the support process. It presents a three-tiered structure integrating universal prevention, targeted ethical support, and culturally tailored crisis intervention, harmonizing Buddhist ethical principles with global health standards. This integrative strategy reconceptualizes mental health advocacy as a moral and community pursuit, converting higher education institutions into compassionate ecosystems grounded in ethical solidarity, cognitive equity, and cultural significance. The study ultimately calls for transitioning to ethically inclusive, spiritually coherent, and structurally responsive mental health interventions in Indonesian universities.

The quality of the decision is the quality that results from the results of the decision that has been applied or tested to the maximum and the results are seen to the maximum and assessed to the maximum as well. From the results of data processing using SPSS, it produces a Scale Statistics Mean of 46.8829, Variance 41.133, Std Deviation 6.41352, Validity respondent 205, Crochbach Alpa 0.888. Product Moment Correlation coefficient or rcount > 0.3, so it can be said that all statement items on the questionnaire have good validity. Meanwhile, the entire Cronbach's Alpha coefficient value obtained for all items is > 0.872 so it can be stated that all statement items on the questionnaire have good reliability (> 0.6).
