Abstract

Indragiri Hilir District has 515,200 hectares of local coconut land with production of 418,200 tons (Statistic Board, 2015), but the area of land and its production is always decreasing. The decline of the area is caused by land damage, land conversion, the number of coconut plants that are old and dead and so affect to the need of raw materials for the development of the coconut industry in generating the number and type of product diversification. This research is conducted to analyze the internal and external factors that were influences to the development of local coconut industry which aims to know the internal and external factors in the development of coconut industry in Indragiri Hilir district. The result of the analysis showed that the internal factors that become the strength and impact on the development of the coconut industry are the large area of coconut plant that is large enough, the availability of a large workforce and already has a large scale coconut processing industry; while the weakness factor is the age of coconut plants is quite old, coconut farmersgenerally use local seeds, decreased coconut productivity and the limited number and type of diversification of coconut derived products. External factors that become opportunities for the development of the coconut industry is the high demand for coconut products and derivatives in the export market, coconut derivative products can still be developed and supported by local government and related agencies while external factors are a threat to the coconut industry development of coconut plantation damage due to sea water intrusion and high investment concerns in competing countries against the coconut industry.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Keritang District is one of the coconut production centers in Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. However, community coconut plantation farming in Indragiri Hilir Regency in recent years has experienced several problems, namely a decrease in land area and coconut production, fluctuating coconut selling prices, and the absence of extension institutions and farmer groups, which can affect the sustainability of community coconut plantation farming. Research objectives (1) analyze and determine the sustainability status of coconut plantation farming; (2) find out the sensitive attributes of people's coconut plantation farming. The research method used was a survey method with a sample size of 98 respondents taken using the purposive sampling method. Data analysis was carried out using the MDS method with RAP-Coconut software. The results of the research show that people's coconut plantation farming in Keritang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, has a less sustainable status in ecological, economic, and social dimensions. Sensitive attributes in the ecological dimension are pest and disease control, the use of pesticides, and fertilization. Sensitive attributes in the economic dimension are capital institutions, employment, land ownership, and the stability of selling prices. Sensitive attributes in the social dimension are farmers' relationships with marketing actors, farmer groups, age of farmers, availability of extension services, family participation, farmers' views on coconut farming, and level of education. Abstract

Kamang Magek and Canduang Districts contain organic rice farmers as a form of government success in voicing sustainable agricultural systems in West Sumatra. Organic rice farming in this location has problems with the decreasing number of organic rice farmers, limited organic land, and the absence of an organic market so the price of organic rice obtained by farmers is not by the market price of organic rice on the market. This study aims to determine the sustainability status of organic rice farming in Kamang Magek and Canduang Districts and to identify sensitive attributes of organic rice farming. This study uses a survey method with a sample taken by a census of 30 organic rice farmers, and data collection is carried out using a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using the multidimensional scaling (MDS) method and RAP-Organic software. The study results indicate that organic rice farming in Kamang Magek and Canduang sub-districts has a fairly sustainable status. The ecological dimension has a sustainable status with its sensitive attributes, namely plant health and biodiversity, soil nutrient/fertility levels, and the amount of organic fertilizer/pesticide used per unit of land. The social dimension has a fairly sustainable status with its sensitive attributes, namely the level of farmer education, access to resources and assistance, food independence, farmer knowledge and awareness of resource conservation, and fairness in income distribution. The economic dimension is a dimension that has a less sustainable status with its sensitive attributes, namely the price of organic rice, the availability of organic rice markets, the benefit-cost ratio, and the status of organic rice land ownership.

Abstract

Hj. Karmi chilli chips, a small enterprise in Dumai City, Riau, Indonesia, is contending with competition from local competitors. This research seeks to revitalize the marketing mix by examining consumer perceptions and digital strategies. The study assesses consumer views on the 7Ps marketing mix (product, price, place, promotion, process, people, physical evidence) for Hj. Karmi chilli chips. This study examines the present condition of these elements and proposes improvements to boost competitiveness and facilitate market growth. Utilizing survey methods with 40 participants and descriptive analysis based on the Likert scale and gap analysis, the study discovered that consumers have a very positive perception of price, people, and process, and a positive perception of place and product. Consumers rated physical evidence and promotion as average. Overall, the marketing perception of Hj. Karmi's consumers are positive. The product features simple packaging that emphasizes the product itself. The chips are priced competitively in Dumai City, providing affordable quality. The store's location suffers from poor accessibility and parking. Limited promotional activities have led to low awareness. Family members manage operations, allowing for close oversight but restricting growth. Consumers highly rate the production process for its quality and hygiene. The physical evidence was considered unattractive. Enhancements are necessary in product, place, promotion, people, and physical evidence to boost competitiveness. Recommendations include enhancing product quality and packaging, improving store accessibility, increasing digital promotion, hiring non-family employees, and upgrading the store layout to attract consumers in Dumai City, Riau.

Abstract

Optimizing the area of oil palm plantations can be approached through the Cow and Palm Oil Integration System (SISKA), to increase efficiency and productivity through the integration of the plantation sub-sector with the livestock sub-sector. This study aimed to analyze the role of farmer groups and the institutional aspects of these groups in supporting the SISKA program in Pelalawan District. The approach used in this study was the institutional theory of Syahyuti. The role of farmer groups (as learning classes, production units and vehicles for collaboration) and institutional aspects of farmer groups (aspects of values, norms and behavior) were analyzed using Likert scale. The relationship between the roles and institutional aspects of the farmer groups was analyzed by Spearman Correlation test. The overall role of the farmer group is in the good category with a score of 3.49, most of the members (69.60%) answered in the fairly good and good category. The overall institutional aspects based on values, norms and behavior in the SISKA farmer group are in the good category with a score of 4.05. Correlation on sub-variable values, norms and behavior towards the role of farmers as units of production is a strong direct correlation. This shows that values, norms and behavior in groups affect, encourage and enhance the role of groups as learning classes that support the level of knowledge of farmers and the role of farmer groups as production unit.
