Abstract

There are instances where teachers encounter confusion when distinguishing between the terms of assessment, test, evaluation and examination. Moreover, the teachers' understanding of these terms also plays a critical role for students. Based on the reasons above, this research aimed to describe the English teachers’ understanding of English language assessment and how the teachers assess the students’ work. The research was conducted at UPT SMA Negeri 1 Parepare. There were five English teachers as research subjects. The research method used qualitative design. The data collected through interview. The interview results were transcribed, then analyzed qualitatively by reducing data based on the research questions. The data that has been reduced is then converted into narrative text, making it easy to understand. The last was making conclusion and suggestion based on the data obtained. The research findings revealed that, there were differences and similarities in the understanding. Four teachers showed differences, with only one teacher had relevant understanding toward the assessment understanding. The other four teachers, in addition to assessment understanding, also had understanding relevant to instructional, subject matter, and pedagogical. The data indicated that Assessment understanding was the most dominant among the five teachers, suggesting that all the teachers were able to differentiate testing, examination, and evaluation. Furthermore, the teachers prioritized their assessment in learning to students by using a variety of assessment methods such as daily tests, semester exams, attitude assessments, as well as group activities and projects to enhance students confidence and encourage active learning in the classroom.

Abstract

Creativity is crucial for teachers, particularly in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in vocational schools. In vocational schools, teacher creativity is essential to creating engaging and relevant learning environments, motivating students, and preparing them for professional challenges. This research aims to describe teacher creativity in teaching English at vocational schools in Barru. A descriptive qualitative research design was used, employing interviews and documentation as research instruments. The subjects were five teachers from three vocational schools at Barru Regency. Data processing included data reduction, data display, verification, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that EFL teachers in Barru's vocational schools demonstrate varied creativity by adapting lesson plans to meet curriculum standards and incorporating innovative methods like collaborative learning and community projects. A student-centered approach leverages diverse media and technology to enhance engagement and cater to different learning styles. Effective classroom management and a deep understanding of students' needs further support creative strategies. Methods are continuously reflected upon and adjusted based on student feedback, addressing challenges through collaboration and ongoing professional development. The creative use of technology and the development of unique teaching materials, such as Reading Journals, Weekly News Journals, Digital Storytelling, and collaborative projects, highlight a dedication to providing engaging and relevant learning experiences

Abstract

Educational management is an activity or series of activities in the form of managing the collaborative efforts of a group of people who are part of an educational organization, to achieve pre-established educational goals, by utilizing existing resources and employing management functions to achieve the goals effectively and efficiently. This research is expected to increase the knowledge about learning management in STAR ENGLISH Course Parepare. By analyzing management strategies that implemented in course, this research provides new insight into effective and efficient management practices in non-formal education. This research employs a qualitative descriptive. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with director and two senior teachers. Instruments included interview guidelines, observation checklist, and documentation records. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis model, comprising data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the steps in preparing lesson plan at STAR EC include determining the learning objectives, learning strategies, and the materials. organizing process consist of task organization between director, teachers, and staff. In the division of tasks within a class, each class has a main teacher and an assistant teacher or an observant teacher. In the learning process, especially during practice sessions, tutors use a strategy of grouping students based on their abilities. the lesson actuating in star ec begins with the teacher open the class and delivering the material during the first 30 minutes. In the next 30 minutes, the teacher conducts exercise for students using the material that been taught that day. The last 30 minutes are used for playing games and conducting a final test. In learning actuating process in classroom, the teacher faces several challenges and the teachers have their own ways of coping these challenges. Coaching that conducted in SEC is divided into several parts which are holds briefing regularly to ensure teachers’ performance is stay on track in teaching, and evaluate teachers’ performance. And then becoming an observant teacher, moreover monitoring by the director, and asking for feedback. The evaluation for students is generally conducted through two types of tests: formative and summative. Evaluation is also conducted for the teachers, where the director discusses the teacher’s performance with senior teachers. Additionally, students are involved in evaluating teacher by providing their feedback.
