Abstract

Good governance is a method to organize resources by involving the local community to participate and to supervise the development of the country. Good governance in tourism ensures that the industry can involve and benefit the local community.  This paper aims to investigate the policies and practice of good governance in Indonesian tourism using the city of Malang in East Java as a case study. This is done by: (1) a study on the Regulation of the Major of Malang on the Master Plan of the Development of Regional Tourism no. 34 year 2014 and (2) field observations in the city of Malang. The research shows that the regulation has fulfilled six characteristics of good governance: participation, consensus oriented, equity and inclusiveness, effectiveness and efficiency, and accountability but fails to fulfill the three criteria of good governance: the rule of law, the transparency and the responsiveness. On the other hand, on the practices of the good governance, the city government lacks communication with the stakeholders and it is advisable that the city government set this forum in the near future to discuss the solutions to better tourism in Malang. Keywords: Good governance, tourism, Indonesia, Malang

Abstract

This study aims to observe the change in the meaning of the nasal verbs in the Arek dialect of Javanese. The scope of the research is limited to the speeches of the community verbs in the Arek zone in Malang Regency. The research data was done from 7-17 April 2022 in 3 districts: Sumberpucung, Kalipare, and Kromengan. The data of this study were analyzed according to Bauer's theory of derivational and inflectional meanings. The results showed that the Javanese nasal verbs have more derivation processes than inflections. The derivation process marks the derivational meaning and the inflection process marks the inflectional process. The results of the study revealed that almost all nasal allomorphs which act as nasal affixes make a verb derivation. The researcher divided the nasal allomorph into 2 parts, /m/, /ñ/, and/ŋ/ which have 2 roles of affixes which is derivational and inflectional. Second, the nasal allomorphs /ŋǝ/, /n/, and /ṇ/ have 1 affix role. Both classifications apply the terms and conditions of the initial phoneme of a verb.Key words : Derivasional, Inflectional, Verb, Nasal, Javanese.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the absence of application in specific language contact areas, which creates a gap in the study of social motivation as highlighted by Zenner et al. The research aims to identify the ‘social gap’ in the absorption of Chinese loanwords in the KBBI from the perspective of employees at PT. Indonesia Technical Machinery, as well as to analyze absorption patterns using the approach employed by Zenner et al. (2019) to address this gap. This approach refers to the four main theories of Zenner et al. (2019): Social Meaning, Social Identity, Indexicality, and Language Regard, with the benefit of enriching the understanding of social motivation in the process of lexical borrowing. This study analyzes 117 data points using a triangulation method involving questionnaires, comparisons, and literature studies. The data were analyzed through reduction, verification, and presentation using a thematic analysis approach to identify patterns of lexical absorption. The study results reveal the patterns represented by (BE-0-1-D-1-0) and (AD-0-1-D-1-0), with the following explanation: influenced by cultural and environmental backgrounds; not dependent on social strata, occupation, or societal dominance; not influenced by the intended impact of speakers on interlocutors; supporting divergence; non-indexical in nature; and positively perceived.

Abstract

Papua is the eastern-most part of Indonesia, comprising the left half of the island of New Guinea. Lani is a group of people or tribe living in the mountains of Jayawijaya Papua, and they speak Lani language as their local language. The language used for formal purposes in Papua is Indonesian. However, many Lani people cannot speak Indonesian correctly. This study examined the phonological interference of Lani language on the spoken Indonesian of Lani native speakers in Malang. This research used descriptive qualitative with content analysis. The respondents were five native speakers of Lani living in Malang for less than a year. The 200 Swadesh wordlist (1971) was used to collect data of spoken Indonesian from the Lani native speakers to show the phonological interference of Lani on Indonesian. This research revealed two important findings: (1) the pronunciation of Indonesian words spoken by Lani native speakers was interfered with Lani phonological rules, in which the respondents tend to substitute the sounds of Indonesian which do not exist in Lani with Lani’s sounds, (2) the respondents intended to make the pronunciation of a second language (Indonesian) easier. This happened because they experienced difficulties in producing several phonemes of Indonesian not existing in Lani’s phonological system.

Abstract

Dayak Desa, spoken in West Kalimantan, has a single marker, konaɁ, to mark both causative and passive construction. The verbal marker can be fronted away from the main verb which indicates that it is not a suffix. This paper argues that konaɁ is a particle which can serve as both causative and passive markers. Comparisons with other languages displaying similar markers confirm that the argument is solid. Moreover, the authors also argue that konaɁ is a result of the influence of Malay used in West Kalimantan since Malay has a marker, kena, which displays similar functions.
