Abstract

The method used is a qualitative method with descriptive. The source used in this study is the corpus ind_mixed_2013 in the Corpora Collection Leipzig, and the dictionary source used is the dictionary of Alan M. Stevens and A. Ed. Schmidgall-Tellings entitled A Comprehensive Indonesian-English Dictionary, Second Edition. The purpose of this study is to find the optimal candidate produced by the speaker and find out the relationship between the optimal candidate and the candidate with the most frequency in the corpus. The results obtained in this study show that the candidates most often formed by BI speakers are candidates who have experienced nationalization [n], and [ŋ]. Then, BI speakers have become accustomed to using optimal candidates, except for absorption words that begin with the phonemes /p/, /s/, and /k/.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe continuous changes of society have brought some impacts to the name of a place. Even though it is only a name, it actually deals with the cultural perspective of the surrounding communities. Currently, toponym becomes important for society as a part of identity formation processes including for the Sundanese. Beside spoken in West Java and Banten, Sundanese language is also spoken by Central Java communities who live in western areas such as Cilacap, Brebes, and Banyumas regencies. In Cilacap and Brebes regencies, Sundanese language is still an effective language for daily communication. However, in Banyumas regency, this language undergo changes. In fact, the Sundanese language in Banyumas is a quite unique since the archaic words such as pineuh  (sleeping) and teoh (below) are still found. This area still keeps its oral tradition such as the story about the history of the place names. By employing dialectology theory to the data collected from the field, this study of the place name is an effort to strengthen an identity as the place name can be understood as a symbol rooted on the history of the place in its local culture. This tradition contributes toward a sustainability of the place name along with their cultural values.

This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. Presentation of data uses the listening method. Data analysis uses distributional methods with a syntactic approach. The research data source uses a written data source, namely a book collection of short stories entitled Kanyaah Kolot by Karna Yudibrata, 2014 edition. Abstract

This study is a study of the Sundanese honorific vocatives Dén and Adén ‘Sir’ from a syntactic perspective. This vocative is used to respectfully address a certain person because they are socially in a certain social class. There are quite a lot of honorific vocatives in Sundanese, including the vocative Adén ‘Tuan’ and the vocative Dén ‘Tuan’ which are morphologically a form of a fragment of Radén. This vocative is addressed to male speech partners. This study is descriptive qualitative. Data provision uses the listening method with note-taking techniques. Data analysis uses a syntactic approach. The data source used is a single written data source, namely a Sundanese novel entitled Kembang Rumah Tangga by Tjaraka (1996). The reason for using this data source is because it contains a lot of data that is needed and as a sample. Based on the data sources used, 35 sentences were found containing honorific vocatives, namely the single vocatives Adén and Dén and the combination of honorific and proper name vocatives, namely Dén Sujana. The honorific vocatives Adén and Dén totaled 34 data with details of the Adén vocative totaling 5 data, while the Dén vocative totaling 29 data. In addition, the honorific vocative Dén was also found combined with the proper name vocative Sujana which formed the combination vocative Dén Sujana which totaled only 1 data. Thus, based on its form, this honorific vocative is dominated by the single vocative Dén. Based on the types of sentences containing the honorific vocatives above, there were 5 declarative sentences, 1 imperative sentence, 10 interrogative sentences, and 19 exclamative sentences. Thus, the types of sentences containing the honorific vocatives are dominated by exclamative sentences. The Adén vocative is found in interrogative and exclamative sentences. The Dén vocative is found in declarative, imperative, interrogative and exclamative sentences. The Dén Sujana vocative is only found in exclamative sentences. Based on the distribution in the sentence, the honorific vocatives above are found at the beginning of the sentence or initial totaling 2 data, in the middle of the sentence or medial totaling 12 data, and at the end of the sentence or final totaling 21 data. Thus, this honorific vocative is dominated by the final position of the sentence.
