Abstract

Background: Diabetic ulcers are a common complication of diabetes mellitus that often occur on the legs and feet and are difficult to heal because of poor circulation and uncontrolled blood glucose, which can progress to infection and gangrene. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of moist wound healing dressing and conventional wound care on the healing of the inflammatory phase of diabetic ulcers.Methods: A quasi-experimental, two-group pre-test post-test design was used. Thirty patients with diabetic ulcers at Yunita Wound Care, Manado, were assigned by total sampling to an experimental group (n=15, moist wound healing dressing) and a control group (n=15, conventional wound care). Inflammatory-phase healing (redness, heat, pain, swelling, functional loss) was assessed on day 1 (pre-test) and day 3 (post-test) using a validated questionnaire and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Independent Samples T-Test.Results: Post-test scores were significantly lower in the experimental group than the control group for redness (1.47 vs 2.47, p=0.001), heat (1.33 vs 2.20, p=0.004), and swelling (1.47 vs 2.27, p=0.000). No significant between-group difference was found for pain (p=0.158) or functional loss (p=0.702).Conclusion: Moist wound healing dressing is more effective than conventional wound care in accelerating inflammatory-phase healing of diabetic ulcers, particularly in reducing redness, heat, and swelling.

Abstract

Stroke merupakan isu kesehatan global dan penyebab kematian kedua setelah penyakit jantung. Akibat dari stroke pasien mengalami keterbatasan dalam mengerjakan aktifitas sehari-hari secara mandiri. Perawat memainkan peran penting untuk mendukung pasien mencapai kemandirian dengan memberikan edukasi terstruktur. Edukasi terstruktur meningkatkan pengetahuan, motivasi yang kuat serta sikap positif pada perawat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh edukasi terstruktur terhadap pengetahuan, motivasi dan sikap nursing agency pada early discharge planning pasien stroke non hemoragik di rumah sakit  ST. Elisabeth Semarang. Desain penelitian menggunakan kuasi eksperimen dengan pre-post test design. Jumlah responden 40 perawat medikal bedah dengan tehnik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah total sampling.  Instrumen penelitian menggunakan kuesioner dan edukasi terstruktur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada pengaruh edukasi terstruktur terhadap pengetahuan, motivasi dan sikap perawat dengan nilai p=0,000 (p0,05).

Abstract

Background: Emotional intelligence and transformational leadership are two important factors for nurses to be able to motivate themselves and build intra relationships in hospitals, and may affect to the nurses' performance. Aims: The purpose of the study was to determine how emotional intelligence and leadership affecting the nurses' performance at the General Hospital of the Evangelical Masehi Church, Bolaang Mongondow Monompia, Kotamobagu, Indonesia Methods: This original research employed an analytic observational with a quantitative approach and a cross sectional study design. A set of questionnaires was distributed to the participated nurses to define the respondents' characteristics, emotional intelligence (10 questions), leadership transformation (12 questions), and the nurses' performances (8 questions). A total of 48 nurses were selected in August 2022 using a total sampling technique, and their answers were included to the further statistical analysis using PSS software version 15. Results: Not different with other hospitals, at the Regional General Hospital of Kotamobagu the majority of nurses was female, and relatively has worked for more than 5 years. It has been noted that the nurses were measured with sufficient emotional intelligence (43.8%), transformational leadership (54.1%), and performances (58.3%). However, the number of nurses having poor emotional intelligence and performance were relatively high, respectively at 12.4% and 14.6%. It is indicated that the nurses performance were significantly resulted by the two factors: Emotional intelligence (p-value: 0.025) and transformational leadership (p-value: 0.005). Conclusion: This study concludes that the emotional intelligence and transformational leadership are moderating variables to strengthen the nurses' performance. This study noted that the higher number of nurses highly perform if having good emotional intelligence and good transformational leadership. Therefore, it is recommended to pay attention to the two strong indicators from this study if a hospital manager plans to improve the nurses' performance.
