The writer selected one of the YouTube videos of CenkBlonk official channel based on two criteria; a) it provided adequate data, b) it had several fields of discussion. The data was collected by firstly watching the video several times then transcribing, translating, and analyzing the data. Dell Hymes’ SPEAKING (setting and scene, participants, ends, act of sequence, key, instrumentalities, norms of interaction and interpretation, and genre) mnemonic in Ethnography of Communication (EC) theory was used to analyze the data. The finding shows that messages are mostly conveyed explicitly by puppet characters in three different fields such as religion, finance, and education. Abstract

The goal of this study is to create a conceptual framework for implementing project-based learning in private institutions to teach language skills. This study made use of the LPKS Aura Sukma Insani-Tourism and the Home Assistance Program in the English study program. An explanatory mixed methods design method was used in this study, with quantitative research and qualitative analysis conducted to support the analysis. The needs analysis model is a hybrid of CIPP and OEM evaluation concepts. According to the findings of this study, this institution in this context requires a conceptual framework for the use of technology-based Project-based learning in teaching language skills, so that trainers are pedagogically prepared. The input results indicate that this institution requires trainers and students to be prepared to implement technology-based Project-based learning in the classroom. The process results indicate that technology-based project-based learning must be implemented with adequate technological support for students. The product results demonstrate that this technology-based project-based learning must be capable of producing results in the form of products that will later be used as evaluation material in the implementation of additional technology-based project-based learning. In addition to the findings of the analysis, it was discovered that the planning of teaching materials must be in accordance with student needs as well as 21st century skills. Keywords: language skill, project-based learning, technology, 21st century learning

Abstract

During pandemic, almost all school activities rely on the use of technology. Teachers are expected to teach using the online platforms. This study aims at analyzing the readiness of English high school teachers who are categorized into Gen X in integrating technology in teaching, by using TPACK framework.  The study applies a descriptive qualitative design. Research subjects were 58 Gen X English high school teachers in one province in Indonesia. Data were collected by distributing online questionnaire to the teachers. Data analysis of triangulation was conducted by doing semi-structured interviews to volunteered teachers. The findings revealed that the Gen X teachers were not ready to integrate teaching with technology. Of all seven integration variables in TPACK, the first level knowledge bases are responded positively. When it comes to the second and third level knowledge bases, the teachers’ responses tend to decrease. Some problems in the technology integration were revealed during the interview. Trainings of teachers’ professionalism for teachers from generation X are considered necessary, especially training on the use of technology and the internet in learning. ICT curriculum integration is also an important issue. Finally, limitations and implications for the education authorities and future research were discussed.

This study aims to investigate the implementation of picture storybooks integrated with the blended learning method through LMS for young learners in fourth-grade students in English literacy learning. In this study, the researchers used an experimental design. The research chosen by the researchers is a post-test-only control group design. Document analysis and statistical analysis of students’ score was used to compare their literacy skills. The research sample was 70 fourth-grade students at SDN 3 Banjar Jawa Singaraja. The results showed that there were significant differences in students’ score while they learned English literacy using picture storybooks integrated with the blended-based learning method. The data obtained then tested using the independent sample t-test, the result showed sig. (2-tailed) is 0.011, which the observed significant level (sig. 2-tailed) is smaller than the standard alpha level (α=0.05). From the result obtained also showed that the use of picture storybooks integrated with the blended learning methods can help students learn in English literacy teaching. Therefore, the use of picture storybooks integrated with the blended-based learning methods is highly recommended because it has a significant influence on English literacy learning for young learners, besides it can also create fun and effective learning.

Abstract

Nowadays, the number of fitness influencers from both genders is rapidly increasing in the fitness industry. Both genders have their language features and characteristics that can be seen in their Tiktok videos. This study aimed to investigate the features and typical characteristics of the language used by Indonesian male and female fitness influencers. This study applied a qualitative descriptive research method by analyzing the video script based on Lakoff’s Theory (1973) and Tennan’s Theory (1990). The findings indicated that male fitness influencers typically speak with greater directness and assertiveness. Also, basic and simple words are mostly used by male influencers. On the contrary, female fitness influencers mostly use extensive vocabulary in their rapport talk. It is intended that this study would serve as the foundation for further investigation related to language gender.

Abstract

EMI (English as Medium of Instruction) is an innovative teaching approach where subjects other than English are taught to the students in English, a second or foreign language. This approach has been widely adopted in European and Asian tertiary education institutions, including Indonesia. However, only a limited number of research has been carried out to reveal the student’s perception of the advantages and drawbacks of the implementation in the country. This study, therefore, aimed at investigating the students’ perceptions of the advantages and drawbacks of EMI implementation in one state university in Bali, Indonesia. This study employed mixed-method research, which was carried out with 130 participants enrolled in the international class initiation. The obtained data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results of the study showed five significant advantages of EMI class: cognitive advantages, resource availability, rich exposure to English and chances to use it, career opportunity, and improvement of students’ motivation in English. However, EMI students also encountered challenges such as difficulties comprehending lectures/materials, taking tests, and low participation in classroom discussions.

The control group class was taught by listening to the teacher, and the experimental group class was taught via podcast. In collecting data, this research used the listening test provided in the pre-test and post-test. To analyse data, the researchers implemented SPSS version 26 of the independent t-test to examine the significant difference in the scores between the control group and experimental group to enhance English listening comprehension.
