Abstract

The self-purification capacity is an important indicator for a healthy river. Organic and inorganic pollutants from various pollutant sources, both point sources, and non-point sources, in most rivers in Banjar Regency, cause a decrease in river water quality. This study aims to identify the distribution of river water quality pollution in Banjar Regency as the upstream of the Martapura River and determine the point of self-purification. A sampling of river water using the purposive sampling technique, taking into account the criteria for pollutant sources and the distance of pollution. The results of the concentration values were analyzed using a trend analysis technique, which connected the value of the concentration of pollutant elements with the distance of pollution to identify the distribution of pollution, and to determine the distance of purification. The results showed that the self-purification ability (pH and DO) decreased in concentration at all observation points.

Abstract

Background of this research is river water quality monitoring that crucial to maintaining the sustainability of river ecosystems. In this context, Internet of Things (IoT) technology and sensors have emerged as a promising solution to enhance monitoring efficiency and accuracy. Methodology: This article describes the implementation of IoT technology and sensors for water quality monitoring in the Martapura River, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. Water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, conductivity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen were measured periodically during testing. The results of this research is the developed monitoring system demonstrated satisfactory results in measuring water quality parameters with low deviation and variation levels. Moreover, the System achieved a high uptime rate, even when facing challenges such as sensor errors, WiFi connection disruptions, and power outages. The implementation of IoT technology and sensors in river water quality monitoring has positively impacted monitoring efficiency, accuracy, and reliability. These results emphasize the significant potential of this technology in supporting river ecosystem conservation efforts in the region.

Abstract

Melayu Tengah Village is one of the villages supported by the Banjarmasin Ministry of Health Polytechnic, located in the East Martapura District, Banjar Regency. Based on survey results in Melayu Tengah Village, data was obtained that the source of bathing-washing-toilet (MCK) water and other community needs came from PDAM water 10%, drilled well water 21%, dug well water 6% and the largest came from river water 63 %. These data show that the level of community dependence on river water is quite high. Most of the people of Melayu Tengah Village live on the banks of the Martapura River. The general aim of this community service activity is to empower the community to realize independence, improve health status and optimize the potential of existing resources in terms of processing river water to provide clean water for the community. The Community Service Scheme implemented is the Partner Village Development Program (PPDM), where the types of community service activities implemented are: application of modified river water treatment to the Horizontal Roughing Filter (HRF) model which is named SARI-KASI (Synthetic Fabric Filter); training for cadres and technical guidance for village officials; establishment of a water processing group; sampling and checking water quality. The results that have been achieved in this community service activity are a tool resulting from research on modified river water processing using the Horizontal Roughing Filter model, named SARI-KASI, which has been applied in 10 units in Melayu Tengah Village; technical assistance and guidance has been provided to village officials in planning the development of clean water facilities in Melayu Tengah Village; a water processing group has been formed in Melayu Tengah Village. It is necessary to carry out routine equipment maintenance and the village government needs to explore collaboration with private parties who have CSR programs in the field of clean water.

Abstract

Village in Banjar Regency faces serious challenges in providing safe drinking water to residents living along the banks of the Martapura River. Pollution from domestic and agricultural waste, coupled with limited resources, has led to limited access to safe drinking water, which increases public health risks. This community service activity aims to improve access to and quality of safe drinking water and encourage changes in community behavior regarding the provision of healthy food. The implementation method includes mapping community water sources, training in water treatment and healthy food processing, and developing a community-based drinking water supply plan involving village heads and local cadres. The results of the activity show a significant increase in access to safe drinking water from 10 families to 50 families. In addition, the "Karya Bersama" water treatment group was formed as a forum for independent drinking water management, and 10 housewives were trained in healthy food processing. Mandatory outputs include publication of an article in the Radar Banjarmasin newspaper (August 23, 2025), publication of a community service video on Duta TV (August 27, 2025), and publication of an article in the Rakat Sehat Journal. Additional outputs include copyright for the educational tool "SARI-KASI (Synthetic Fabric Filter)" with registration number EC002025119112 dated August 26, 2025. This program shows an increase in community skills in the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment. Recommended activities are to continue technical and institutional assistance, integration into village development plans, and replication of the activity model in other areas with similar conditions.
