Abstract

Sustainable settlement design necessitates the incorporation of environmental carrying capacity determined by ecosystem services. In border areas like the Sota Border Area (KPN) in Papua, ecological pressures intensify as a result of population expansion and economic endeavours. This study assesses the environmental carrying capacity and resilience of settlements through an ecosystem services framework, comparing conditions in 2019 and 2024 to evaluate the impact of development plans. The analysis focuses on five key ecosystem services: food provision, clean water supply, water flow regulation and flood control, disaster protection, and air quality maintenance. Data collection involved field surveys, remote sensing, and GIS-based spatial overlay analysis to map land use changes and ecosystem service values. Results in 2019 showed residential development concentrated in zones with high ecosystem service values, such as food provision (771.7 ha in SUB BWP 2) and clean water supply (742.98 ha in SUB BWP 3). Development in low-lying areas prioritized flood regulation (460.1 ha in SUB BWP 1) and disaster protection (560.7 ha in SUB BWP 1). By 2024, developed land in the very high clean water supply zone of SUB BWP 1 increased sharply from 0.10 ha to 28.86 ha. This research highlights the critical need to incorporate ecosystem service data into settlement planning to sustain environmental capacity and enhance border region sustainability

Abstract

Land use change is a critical phenomenon that demands attention, particularly in metropolitan centers and developing cities in Asia and Southeast Asia that are undergoing substantial urbanization. The objective of this study is to examine the repercussions of land use modification on the environment, society, and economy. Additionally, it seeks to assess prevailing research trends in this domain through a bibliometric approach. The research methodology encompasses bibliometric analysis employing the Scopus database, encompassing the collection and filtration of data from 1986 to 2025, yielding 193 pertinent documents. The analysis indicates that publications in this field have exhibited significant an annual growth rate, reflecting a notable increase in scholarly interest in this subject. The study also found that China and the United States are the countries with the highest publication contributions, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in this research. The discussion revealed that land use change contributes to environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, and negative impacts on public health, particularly in developing countries. Moreover, this study identifies the need to expand studies in underrepresented countries and emphasizes the urgency of sustainable policies to address the challenges posed by land use change. The findings of this research are anticipated to offer insights that will inform the development of more effective and sustainable urban management and regional development policies by relevant stakeholders.

Abstract

This research constitutes bibliometric analysis about the utilization of System Dynamics (SD) in mitigating air pollution. This project aims to investigate the use of system dynamics models in simulating and assessing urban transportation regulations, industrial emissions, and the incorporation of cleaner technology. The applied methodology encompasses a synthesis of current studies and the execution of bibliometric analysis to discern trends, prominent academics, and the most impactful papers in this domain. An exhaustive analysis of the current literature uncovered several significant findings. Investments in public transportation, the introduction of fuel taxes, and the advancement and deployment of sophisticated car technologies are recognized as essential solutions for mitigating air pollution. Case studies from places such Greater Cairo, Kuwait, Tehran, and Mexico City illustrate the efficacy of SD in forecasting long-term environmental consequences and facilitating adaptive policy. This research primarily contributes to the visualisation of the intellectual framework of the research domain, the identification of keyword clusters, and the elucidation of links between topics that may have previously lacked obvious mapping.  This research addresses a methodological deficiency by clearly illustrating how the combination of quantitative bibliometric analysis and systematic review can enhance comprehension of the developmental dynamics within a scientific subject.
