Abstract

Aedes aegypti is the main transmitter of dengue hemorrhagic fever which is an important health problem in Indonesia and the world. The main vector of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is the Aedes aegypti mosquito which originated from Africa and discovered in Indonesia in 1968 in Surabaya. DHF continues to spread to all 472 districts or cities in 34 provinces in Indonesia. Data on dengue cases recorded until the 49th week of 2020 were 95,893 cases and 661 cases of death. Biological control using natural ingredients which is Asteraceae family plants that have larvicidal activity is one of the methode to prevent transmission and reproduction of the main vector. The object of this study is to know the potential of Asteraceae family plants as larvicides against Aedes aegypti. The method of this study is systematic review. The data sources used are secondary data obtained from Google Scholar. The keywords are Asteraceae, Aedes aegypti and larvicide. There are 17 literatures which fulfill the criteria. Synthesis of data is using SPIDER. The result of this study is, from 17 international and national journals reviewed, there were 9 (52,95%) journals shows that Asteraceae family plants have low potential to become Aedes aegypti larvicides and 8 (47,05%) journals shows that Asteraceae family plant have the potential to become Aedes aegypti larvicides, this is based on the LC50 value >1000ppm which indicates that the larvicidal activity is low. Asteraceae family plants have low potential to become Aedes aegypti larvicides.

Abstract

Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes always cause serious health problems in people. The problems it causes are getting wider because mosquito-borne diseases can increase from time to time. Reducing dengue cases in Palangka Raya City requires everyone's attention, including the role of high school students in helping control both at home, school and in the environment. Students' knowledge is low on the potential for mosquitoes to transmit diseases to humans, so education is needed for students to improve their understanding of mosquito control as a vector of disease. The purpose of this activity is that students can understand how to control mosquitoes to prevent the spread of disease. The success of this activity requires partners, namely SMAN 2 Palangka Raya which is one of the efforts to drive mosquito control at home, school and environment. The method used is morphological education of mosquito larvae, adult mosquitoes, and integrated control methods and therapy for mosquito-transmitted diseases. The knowledge of SMAN 2 students in controlling disease-carrying vectors can be judged successful by increasing students' understanding. Abstract

Haemonchosis is an infection caused by the Haemonchus contortus worm, a blood-sucking gastrointestinal parasite that can also infect humans. Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves have been shown to have anthelmintic activity due to the presence of saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. This study aimed to determine the anthelmintic activity of ethanol extract of Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves against H. contortus. The infective H. contortus larvae were divided into six treatment groups: a 0.5% ethanol extract concentration group, a 1% ethanol extract concentration group, a 2% ethanol extract concentration group, a 4% ethanol extract concentration group, a positive control group (+), and a negative control group (-), each with four replicates. The study was conducted in six hours, with observations made at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th hours. The results showed that the death of the larvae increased with higher ethanol extract concentrations and longer exposure to the ethanol extract of Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves. The time of death for infective H. contortus larvae given the ethanol extract of Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves was at the 4th hour, and the effective dose of the ethanol extract as an anthelmintic was at the concentration of 0.5%. Keywords: Anthelmintic, Haemonchus contortus, Orthosiphon aristatus

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by Aedes spp. mosquitoes. which can be found in tropical and sub-tropical climates. The transmission of dengue fever is closely related to people's daily living habits. Factors that play a role in the emergence of disease are influenced by human factors as hosts and Aedes spp mosquitoes. as a vector for transmitting dengue fever. The breeding place for Aedes spp. can increase the mosquito population in transmitting dengue fever to humans. Research on peat water as a habitat for Aedes spp. larvae. It is very important to do this as an effort to control dengue vectors, especially in areas where the pH of the water tends to be acidic in Palangka Raya City because the larvae of Aedes spp. has the ability to adapt to water that tends to be acidic. This research was conducted using a survey method with a cross-sectional study and experimental laboratory design.
