Abstract

Mangrove is a unique vegetation type growing along the coastline and estuarine in tropical and subtropical countries. Mangroves in Indonesia are distributed in all major islands and small islands from Aceh on westside stretched to Papua on the east. This study is to monitor the mangrove area in Poto island a small island part of Kabupaten Bintan, Province of Riau Kepulauan. The difference in spatial resolution of remote sensing data Sentinel 2A and Pleiades were used to classify the land use including the mangrove area. The supervised classification by maximum likelihood classification showed the high-resolution image using Pleiades has higher accuracy for mangroves 81.99% and overall accuracy 90% (kappa 0.86) compared to Sentinel 2A for mangrove 72,34% and overall accuracy 80% (kappa 0.73). The mangrove area approximately 257 ha is strip-lining along the coastline with the largest mangrove area located on the southside of the island. Further research is to identify the mangroves’ formation and the serial condition of mangroves on the different times.

Abstract

The waters of Dumai City, located in Riau Province and directly connected to the Malacca Strait, are highly accessible both locally and internationally. The coastal area is characterized by intensive human settlements and diverse industrial activities, including oil and gas, crude palm oil (CPO), and cement industries, which discharge wastes that may affect marine biota. Most of these wastes are transported to the sea through river flows, posing a serious threat to the ecological balance and aquatic organisms, particularly fish, with potential risks to human consumers. This study aimed to examine the physicochemical parameters of the waters and to determine the concentration and status of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in water, sediment, and fish. The research was conducted from April to June 2025 using survey, observation, and experimental methods in both field and laboratory settings. Data were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) to measure the actual concentrations of heavy metals. The results were compared with the threshold values established by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment Decree No. 51/2004 concerning marine water quality standards for aquatic biota. The findings revealed that the physicochemical parameters, including water temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (DO), remain supportive of aquatic life according to the standards. However, the concentrations of Pb and Cd in water, sediment, and fish samples exceeded the permissible limits, indicating pollution in Dumai waters.

Abstract

Aktivitas pendaratan ikan di Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara (PPN) Sibolga didominasi oleh ikan pelagis kecil, dengan penangkapan menggunakan pukat cincin. Alat tangkap pukat cincin ( purse seine ) merupakan salah satu alat tangkap yang banyak digunakan di Sibolga. Purse seine banyak digunakan karena alat tangkap ini dinilai cukup efektif digunakan, ikan yang ditangkap dalam jumlah yang banyak,merupakan ikan yang bergerombolan. Target utama dari purse seine di Sibolga adalah gerombolan ikan pelagis. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui spesifikasi dan metode pengoperasian purse seine di KM Karya Maju. Penelitian dilaksanakan Maret-April 2019 di KM Karya Maju, PPN Sibolga. Spesifikasipurse seine di KM Karya Maju terdiri atas tali ris atas, tali ris bawah, tali pelampung, tali pemberat,serampat ( selvedge), tali cincin, tali kerut, pelampung, pemberat, cincin. Daerah pengoperasian pukat cincin ( purse seine ) yaitu berada di WPP 572, yaitu pulau Nias hingga ke Natuna Utara. Pukat cincin di KM Karya Maju dioperasikan pada malam hari, dengan menggunakan rumpon. Prinsip pengoperasian alat tangkappukat cincin (purse seine) KM Karya Maju yaitu dengan cara melingkari segerombolan ikan hingga jaring berbentuk kantong.
