Abstract

Abstract The research is motivated by the shortcomings in the use of video tracker applications to measure the height of the marble bounce where the camera used to record the marble bounce must have a certain quality so that the video can be analyzed properly by the video tracker application. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the density of marbles on the value of the coefficient of restitution on the collision of marbles with the floor using a smartphone assisted by the Phypox application. This research is an experimental research using graph analysis method. The results showed that marbles with a density of 950 kg/m3 produced a restitution coefficient of 420.1 x 10-3, marbles with a density of 1400 kg/m3 produced a restitution coefficient of 574.4 x 10-3, marbles with a density of 2400 kg/m3 produced a restitution coefficient of 831.7 x 10-3, marbles with a density of 2700 kg/m3 produced a restitution coefficient of 878.1 x 10-3, and marbles with a density of 7600 kg/m3 produced a restitution coefficient of 888.8 x 10-3. Based on the graph analysis, it is concluded that the coefficient of restitution of the impact of the marbles with the floor is getting bigger and closer to the value of 1 if the density of the marbles increases. Abstract

Physics learning is rarely associated with the local wisdom of the local community, so most people assume that the two topics are very different. This article analyzes the concept of force balance in the Atag warehouse building in Jember Regency. This study used qualitative research using content analysis techniques in which there is unitizing, sampling, coding, reducing, inferring, and narrating. Data were collected through field observations, literature studies, interviews, and documentation. The research indicates that the Atag warehouse building has several parts, namely doors, windows (tabing lambung), columns (rooms), warehouse roofs, and foundations. In the Atag warehouse, there is the concept of static balance, namely the equilibrium of rigid objects found in the frame, rope ties, foundation, semat, and Atag warehouse doors. Then there is the concept of a heavy point found in the bottom cover and the center of the Atag shed. Furthermore, there is the concept of dynamic balance, namely the moment of force that can be found in the warehouse window and the moment of inertia in the bamboo part whose bonds loosen when stepped on by warehouse workers. Integrating Atag warehouses in learning activities can make it easier for students to understand physics concepts. This article concludes that the Atag warehouse has a static and dynamic balance that can be used as physics learning material and can also help preserve regional culture.

Abstract

Physics learning provides a context for future careers in fostering ability in high-end logic with the 21st learning goals. Applying computational thinking in schools is challenging and requires systemic transformation and teacher attention. This study aims to investigate the computational thinking of students in physics learning. This study used exploratory qualitative research. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and portfolio documents. The data are analyzed through six stages: preparing and organizing, exploring, building descriptions, representing the findings, interpreting the results, and validating the accuracy. The result indicated four primary computational thinking skills: decomposition, abstraction, simulation, and evaluation. The computational thinking skills in physics learning can develop students’ understanding and implementation of physics concepts based on data, not just mathematical formulas. Computational thinking in physics learning gives students the opportunity and space to explore and develop their ideas and logical reasoning more deeply in problem-defining, solutions, and evaluation. Students use their logical reasoning to solve the problem precisely. This study is expected to be used as a basis and support for physics teachers to integrate computational thinking into their learning classroom.

Abstract

Scientific writing is an essential skill as an indicator to determine the ability to analyze and reflect on the results of thinking. However, students often experience difficulties in developing writing skills. This study tried a solution by applying inquiry learning by assisting with scaffolding prompting questions. The aims of this study is to analyze the effect of the scaffolding prompting questions in guided inquiry learning on scientific writing skills. The type of this research is a quasi-experiment conducted in senior high school. Science learning is conducted in two classes; experiment and control class with different treatments. The experiment class implemented guided inquiry learning assisted by a scaffolding prompting question, while the control class was taught with guided inquiry learning without scaffolding. Scientific writing skills are obtained from the evaluation of practicum reports that students have done after being trained for three lessons. The results of statistical tests on scientific writing skills using the independent sample t-test showed that the scientific writing skills of the experimental class students differed from the control class. Then, it can be concluded that the scaffolding prompting question in guided inquiry learning significantly influences scientific writing skills.
