Abstract

The essay deals with the power of transformation through rationality and criticism (Max Horkheimer's Dialectical Analysis of the Enlightenment). It is a review article that discusses the main topic using a literature study. According to the Dialectics of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno's critical theory aims to bring about a critical consciousness. It leads to Aufklärung or Enlightenment. Horkheimer and Adorno critically observed that technological and scientific developments do not always create freedom. Instead, technology is often used as a tool of control and domination. Faced with these challenges, Horkheimer emphasized the importance of continuous criticism of social and cultural conditions. Criticism is considered a tool for exposing injustices and gaps that emerged amid the enlightenment. For Horkheimer, critical thinking is not just intellectual analysis, but rather a means of freeing humans from the shackles and alienation produced by false enlightenment. By understanding the dialectic of enlightenment, we can more wisely manage developments over time to achieve positive and sustainable transformation.

Abstract

This article explores the concept of Islamic theology of peace and interfaith harmony through the perspective of Asghar Ali Engineer, particularly focusing on the essence of Islam, theology of peace, and interreligious harmony. The article employs a literature study method, analyzing and interpreting Engineer's works. Asghar Ali Engineer, an Indian Muslim scholar and intellectual, advocates for peace and pluralism in Islam, emphasizing the importance of Tauhid (the Oneness of God) as a foundation for social justice and peace. His approach integrates the concept of liberation theology, emphasizing the necessity of liberating humanity from oppression and injustice. Engineer interprets Tauhid not merely as a religious ritual but as a social structure that fosters equality and peace. He argues that true peace in Islam involves respecting religious diversity and eliminating coercion in faith. The study affirms that Engineer's theology of peace is relevant in multicultural and multireligious contexts like Indonesia and can offer an alternative approach to resolving interfaith conflicts. Engineer's emphasis on dialogue and understanding among different faiths is crucial for enhancing harmony and reducing societal polarization.AbstrakArtikel ini mengeksplorasi konsep teologi perdamaian Islam dan kerukunan antaragama melalui pemikiran Asghar Ali Engineer, khususnya mengenai esensi Islam, teologi perdamaian, dan kerukunan antar agama. Artikel ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan menganalisis karya-karya Engineer dan menginterpretasikannya. Asghar Ali Engineer, seorang ulama dan intelektual Muslim India, mengadvokasi perdamaian dan pluralisme dalam Islam, menekankan pentingnya Tauhid (Keesaan Allah) sebagai dasar untuk keadilan sosial dan perdamaian. Pendekatannya menggabungkan konsep teologi pembebasan, menekankan pentingnya membebaskan umat manusia dari penindasan dan ketidakadilan. Engineer menafsirkan Tauhid tidak hanya sebagai ritual agama tetapi sebagai struktur sosial yang mendorong kesetaraan dan perdamaian. Ia berargumen bahwa perdamaian sejati dalam Islam melibatkan penghormatan terhadap keragaman agama dan penghapusan paksaan dalam beragama. Kajian ini menegaskan  bahwa teologi perdamaian Engineer relevan dalam konteks multikultural dan multireligius seperti di Indonesia dan dapat menjadi pendekatan alternatif untuk mengatasi konflik antar agama. Penekanan Engineer pada dialog dan pemahaman antar agama yang berbeda sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kerukunan dan mengurangi polarisasi masyarakat.

Abstract

This paper is based on the results of a study entitled “Study of the Influence of Paramadina Life Value Lecture (NHP) on Student Character and Behavior”. The study was driven by concerns about rising intolerance and radicalism as well as counterproductive tensions between Islam and nationality among young people and students. This condition of course has the potential to threaten the disintegration of people and the nation in general. From the results of descriptive statistical analysis shows that there is a strong correlation and significant influence between NHP lecture learning and the perception and attitude of students towards Islamic and Indonesian values. This research program is designed by conducting training and workshops for a number of students who have strategic and important in the formation of understanding and moderate religious attitudes. Dissemination of the idea of religious moderation is carried out, among others, through training and development of Islamic values that are one breath with national values (Indonesianness) and socialization of moderate religious understanding is one of the long-term deradicalization strategies at the upstream level.

Abstract

Religious and ethnic diversity in multicultural urban contexts often produces complex social dynamics, particularly in the formation of social stratification. This study examines these dynamics in Gang Luna Tolerance Village in Bandung City by explicitly applying Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical framework—habitus, forms of capital, and social fields to analyse how religion and ethnicity structure everyday interactions and status hierarchies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, residents from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds, and local policymakers, as well as participant observation and document analysis. The findings reveal that religious habitus and the distribution of social and cultural capital play a significant role in shaping stratification patterns, while the arena of intergroup interaction in Tolerance Village encourages the negotiation of status positions. Although hierarchical differences exist, practices of religious tolerance embedded in community habitus strengthen harmonious relations and facilitate social mobility by expanding access to social capital. This study contributes to the sociology of religion by demonstrating how Bourdieu’s concepts explain the interplay between diversity and stratification in urban multicultural settings and offers insights for social policy development aimed at fostering inclusive, tolerant, and socially mobile communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

With the increasing irresponsible exploitation of natural resources, environmental damage has become increasingly concerning, particularly in the mining sector, which has a broad impact on ecosystems and the livelihoods of surrounding communities. The environmental crisis caused by mining activities in Indonesia demands a new approach to more sustainable resource management. This study aims to explore the role of religious moderation from the perspective of eco-theology, which has the potential to offer solutions for natural resource management. Eco-theology provides spiritual principles that can be integrated into environmental policies, creating a balance between economic interests, ecology, and societal well-being. This research is a literature review employing a descriptive analysis method. The results show that eco-theology offers a relevant framework for shifting the paradigm of mining management from anthropocentrism to ecocentrism. Religious organizations have great potential to promote sustainable mining management by incorporating spiritual values into environmental practices. Religious moderation serves as a foundational pillar in strengthening ecological awareness, improving the relationship between humans and nature, and encouraging sustainable development aligned with religious principles.

Abstract

Global ecological crises and climate change have evolved into multidimensional problems that not only threaten environmental sustainability but also generate social, economic, and humanitarian crises. In this context, the Anthropocene paradigm emerges as a conceptual framework that explains how human activities have become the dominant factor shaping changes in the Earth system. This study aims to analyze how the Anthropocene paradigm can reconstruct Islamic education through epistemic, curricular, pedagogical, and institutional transformations in responding to the global ecological crisis. This study employed a qualitative approach based on library research using a conceptual paper model. Data were obtained through the examination of various relevant academic literatures and analyzed using content analysis and critical-hermeneutic interpretation techniques. The findings indicate that Islamic education possesses a strong theological foundation through the concepts of tawḥīd (monotheism), khilāfah (stewardship), mīzān (balance), and Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah (objectives of Islamic law) in fostering ecological awareness and sustainability responsibility. However, the integration of environmental issues within Islamic education in Indonesia remains predominantly normative and moralistic and has not yet developed into “ecological systems thinking” and “sustainability literacy”. This study emphasizes that the transformation of Islamic education in the Anthropocene era requires the reconstruction of an integrative, ecological, and transformative educational paradigm capable of developing a Muslim generation with planetary consciousness and socio-ecological responsibility toward the sustainability of the Earth.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with a high religious diversity, needs a framework of thought that can accommodate this diversity. The purpose of this study is to discuss Frithjof Schuon's thought on transcendental unity and its relevance to the context of religious life in pluralistic Indonesia. In the context of religious pluralism in Indonesia, Schuon argues that all religions and beliefs have the same roots in transcendental unity that transcend doctrinal or dogmatic differences. This concept has important implications for strengthening unity in diversity in Indonesia, but also poses challenges and criticism. This research is a literature review using a philosophical approach that aims to analyze the ideas of the figure. The results show that Schuon's ideas can provide a relevant framework for addressing the challenges of religious pluralism in Indonesia by teaching tolerance, respect for differences, and a deeper understanding of transcendental reality. The application of Schuon's concept of pluralistic reasoning and transcendental unity can be a basis for building a more harmonious and peaceful society in Indonesia.

Abstract

The world is currently shocked by a new virus, namely severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or what is known as covid-19. The virus, which was first discovered in Wuhan, China, has claimed thousands of human victims, including in Indonesia. Many things have happened in terms of humanity in this Covid-19 phenomenon. The occurrence of social distancing, solidarity to help each other even excessive concern for the victims of covid-19. Which in the end has an impact on the exclusion and rejection of these covid-19 victims, which should not have happened. According to a German philosopher, Erich Fromm. In his humanist psychoanalytic theory, Erich Fromm, basically humans under any circumstances have social attachments in the form of love and cooperation with others.

Abstract

Abstrak: Perilaku bermedia sosial pada masa bencana kesehatan ini menjadi berkembang. Mulai dari aspek konten media sosial, khususnya selama pandemi Covid-19 informasi dan misinformasi terus menyebar dengan mudah. Dalam penggunaan media sosial masyarakat lebih sering untuk mendapatkan informasi terkini. Meskipun banyak informasi faktual dan manfaat yang diperoleh, namun dari beberapa diantaranya tidak benar atau bahkan berbahaya. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan virtual etnografi.  Etnografi virtual bertujuan suatu keadaan fenomena dalam hal ini perilaku bermedia sosial selama masa pandemi Covid-19. Dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa perilaku bermedia sosial sebagai upaya pencarian informasi dalam menghadapi bahaya pandemi Covid-19 merupakan perilaku adaptif sekaligus menjadi perilaku panik bagi semua orang di dunia. Kebiasaan yang dilakukan ini sejatinya memang diperluas oleh media sosial.Kata kunci: Perilaku, Media Sosial, Pandemi Covid-19. Abstract: Social media behavior during this health disaster was growing. From the aspect of social media content, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, information and misinformation continued to spread easily. People use social media more often to get the latest information. Although there was a lot of factual information and benefits, some were not true or even dangerous. This research design was qualitative with a virtual ethnographic approach. Virtual ethnography was aimed at a state of phenomena, in this case, the behavior of social media during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the research results, it was concluded that social media behavior to find information in dealing with the dangers of the Covid-19 pandemic became adaptive and panic behavior for everyone in the world. Social media have expanded this practice.Keywords: Behavior, Social Media, Covid-19 Pandemic.

Abstract

Education in the pandemi era has turned to online media. Learning from home or online becomes one that must be lived by students in Indonesia. This is because as an effort to prevent Covid-19. This is experienced by the students who are in the neighborhood of Al-Ma'had Mosque in Dukupuntang Cirebon Regency. Online learning activities have been running since the beginning of the pandemi. But online learning activities have a positive and negative impact. One of the negative impacts seen from students is the decrease in learning motivation due to the impact of this pandemi. Through the routine of studying the book of Ta'lim Muta'allim, it is hoped that it can foster the motivation to learn from the students, but to reveal the values contained in the book of Ta'lim Muta'alim, it is necessary to be able to read and write the yellow book that collects so that students can learn a wisdom. Research methods based on observation as a scientific way to obtain data with a specific purpose and usefulness. In this study, the results of the discussion will be conveyed that student empowerment activities through improving the ability to read and write the yellow book at the Al-ma'had Mosque become a routine activity to study students to learn the values contained in the book of Ta'lim Muta'alim and make motivation to learn during pandemi era
