Abstract

The recent phenomenon of radicalism is attributed to rigid and intellectualistic interpretations of religious texts. Referring to the classical thought of Ibn Arabi, there is a common thread in understanding religious texts that involves not only a literal (dhahir) approach but also an inner (batin) approach. This inner approach creates a more inclusive and universal understanding of religious texts. The inner approach introduced by Ibn Arabi, known as ta’wil, is understood in philosophical studies as hermeneutics. Ibn ‘Arabi’s thought is particularly interesting for deeper examination because it introduces various essential themes in Sufism, such as Wahdat al-Wujud, the concept of prophethood, entities, and others. This is inseparable from his paradigm, rich in hermeneutics based on spiritual experience and distinctive mystical knowledge, setting him apart from other mystics. This study employs a literature review method with a hermeneutical approach to further explore Ibn Arabi’s hermeneutical concepts within the context of Islam. The findings indicate that the characteristics of Ibn Arabi’s knowledge paradigm can be observed through his hermeneutical methods, which are derived from the power of imagination, the use of symbols in understanding texts, and epistemology and sources of knowledge. These characteristics contribute to the development of epistemology in understanding religious texts, such as the Qur’an and Hadith.

Abstract

The rapid development of science and social changes in the contemporary era has created a tension between traditional religious thought and the modern world. Religion is often viewed as a static system, while science and technology continue to evolve. The aim of this research is to explore how Soroush distinguishes between religion as eternal revelation and religious knowledge as a product of human effort that can evolve in response to changes over time. The methodology used in this research is qualitative analysis with a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings indicate that Soroush emphasizes the importance of intellectual humility in facing the plurality of religious interpretations, viewing religious knowledge as an ongoing process that evolves according to social and scientific changes without compromising the essence of revelation. Academically, this research contributes to the study of religious epistemology by providing insights into how Soroush’s thought can help redefine the relationship between religion and science in the context of the contemporary world, as well as renewing religious understanding in a more flexible and dynamic way.

Abstract

Masalah kebersihan lingkungan dan pemanfaatan barang bekas di SDN Japurabakti 1 menjadi perhatian utama mengingat dampaknya terhadap kesehatan dan lingkungan sekolah. Sosialisasi yang efektif diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran siswa tentang pentingnya kebersihan lingkungan dan pemanfaatan barang bekas dengan tepat. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh sosialisasi terhadap perubahan perilaku siswa dalam menjaga kebersihan dan memanfaatkan barang bekas. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menggunakan metodologi Participatory Action Research (PAR) sebagai pendekatan utama. Temuan penting dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa sosialisasi yang dilakukan telah berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran siswa tentang pentingnya kebersihan lingkungan dan pemanfaatan barang bekas. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan dan perubahan perilaku siswa dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan sekolah dan memanfaatkan barang bekas secara efektif. Kesimpulan dari pengabdian ini adalah bahwa sosialisasi yang intensif dan berkelanjutan dapat memberikan dampak positif terhadap kesadaran dan tindakan siswa dalam menjaga kebersihan dan memanfaatkan barang bekas. Oleh karena itu, program sosialisasi seperti ini sebaiknya diteruskan dan dikembangkan lebih lanjut untuk menciptakan lingkungan sekolah yang lebih bersih dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This article will explore Asghar Ali Engineer’s ideas on the significance of religious harmony and examine how this concept is manifested through his formulated theology of peace. The research method used in this study is literature review with a philosophical approach using hermeneutic and text analysis techniques through verstehen. The results of this study explain that the theology of peace sees religion as a source of values and spirit that encourage humans to live together in peace and harmony. Asghar Ali Engineer suggests that Muslims prioritize the principles of peace, such as the understanding of Islam, the meaning of jihād, movement, and the application of justice. In addition, according to Asghar Ali’s perspective, Muslims must cultivate values that can realize religious harmony and peace, such as anti-violence, justice, truth, tolerance, love, and compassion.

Abstract

Empirisme merupakan salah satu aliran filsafat yang memiliki peranan penting dalam ranah pengetahuan. Salah satu tokoh dalam aliran empirisme ini adalah David hume seorang filsuf modern yang lahir pada zaman renaissance. Sebagai rival rasionalisme, pengetahuan ini menempatkan pengalaman sebagai sumber utama dalam objektifikasi kebenaran baik lahiriah maupun batiniah. Fokus pembahasan dalam penelitian ini adalah mengkaji wilayah metafisika perspektif filsafat empiris-nya david hume. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kepustakaan (library research) dengan pendekatan filosofis yang bertujuan melakukan pencarian dan menelaah terhadap data atau informasi mengenai pemikiran tokoh. Hasil dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa bangunan metafisika empirik yang diletakkan oleh Hume ternyata masih lemah dalam mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan. Filsafatnya lebih mengarah kepada pemikiran analitis, kritis, dan skeptis yang pada akhirnya empirisme Hume terjebak pada skeptisisme  dan nihilisme.

Abstract

The Book of Turats has a central role in Islamic boarding school education in Indonesia, being the Mandzumah book that is often taught and studied by Islamic boarding school students. The aim of this research is to examine the recontextualization of the Book of Turats in the field of nahwu in the context of the National Level Musabaqah Qira'atil Pole (MQKN) 2023. This research focuses on the understanding and application of Arabic grammar taught in the book Alfiyah Ibnu Malik. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with library research methods which include field studies through observation, documentation and interviews. The results of this research explain that recontextualization in the field of nahwu is assessed from several components, namely maqro (reading), meaning (understanding) of the book, and depth of analysis of the book. Overall, all participants who took part in the contest in the field of nahwu have demonstrated good qualities in reading fluently and accurately, including fashahah and intonation in reading, correct use of the I'rab character, as well as understanding and application of the sharf form. Recontextualizing the book of Turats in the context of MQKN 2023 provides an opportunity for participants to apply Arabic grammar knowledge in a broader context, especially in understanding and analyzing the text of the Qor'an and hadith.

Abstract

The understanding of religious texts in contemporary Muslim communities is often dominated by a rigid literal approach that overlooks the inner dimensions and social contexts. In facing the challenges of modernity, pluralism, and the complexities of urban life, an alternative interpretation that is more inclusive and flexible is needed. Ibn Arabi, a Sufi and Islamic philosopher, offers profound hermeneutics through the power of imagination, symbolism, ‘irfani epistemology, and his mystical system of knowledge. This study aims to explore Ibn Arabi’s hermeneutical concepts as an alternative religious interpretation relevant to contemporary urban Muslim communities. The method employed is a literature review using a hermeneutical approach, involving an in-depth analysis of Ibn Arabi’s major works, such as al-Futuhat al-Makiyyah and Fusus al-Hikam, along with modern interpretations of his intellectual legacy. The findings reveal that Ibn Arabi’s hermeneutics provide a strong foundation for understanding religious texts more holistically, integrating the inner and outer dimensions through methods such as ta’wil, kashf, and mushahadah. Ibn Arabi’s approach is relevant for urban communities as it bridges tradition and modernity, fostering a spiritual, inclusive, and contextual understanding of religion. His intellectual legacy not only addresses the challenges of modern religious interpretation but also opens up spaces for dialogue between Islamic traditions and contemporary societal needs.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze how digital transformation in Islam has altered the structure of religious authority, using the Post-Normal Times (PNT) approach developed by Ziauddin Sardar. Method – This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach, analyzing the digital da’wah phenomenon, specifically social media's role in shaping religious authority. Result – The findings indicate that the digitalization of religion has caused a shift in religious authority from the traditional hierarchy dominated by scholars and religious institutions to a popularity-based authority, where figures like celebrity preachers and Islamic influencers have become dominant. Social media facilitates the spread of da’wah, but also gives rise to phenomena such as instant fatwas, fragmentation of religious teachings, and the commodification of religion. In the Post-Normal Times framework, the uncertainty of authority increases, where algorithms and popularity replace traditional scholarly credibility. Implication – This study has significant implications for managing digital da’wah, religious literacy, and the need for regulation to minimize negative impacts, such as spreading misinformation and oversimplifying religious teachings. Originality/Value – This study offers an original contribution by applying the Post-Normal Times theory to analyze changes in religious authority within the context of digital da’wah, a topic not widely discussed in the literature on religion and social media. *** Tujuan - Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana transformasi digital dalam Islam telah mengubah struktur otoritas agama, menggunakan pendekatan Post-Normal Times (PNT) yang dikembangkan oleh Ziauddin Sardar.  Metode - Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif, menganalisis fenomena da’wah digital, khususnya peran media sosial dalam membentuk otoritas agama. Hasil - Temuan menunjukkan bahwa digitalisasi agama telah menyebabkan pergeseran otoritas agama dari hierarki tradisional yang didominasi oleh ulama dan lembaga agama ke otoritas berbasis popularitas, di mana figur seperti pendakwah selebriti dan influencer Islam menjadi dominan. Media sosial memfasilitasi penyebaran da’wah, tetapi juga menimbulkan fenomena seperti fatwa instan, fragmentasi ajaran agama, dan komodifikasi agama. Dalam kerangka Post-Normal Times, ketidakpastian otoritas meningkat, di mana algoritma dan popularitas menggantikan kredibilitas ulama tradisional. Implikasi – Studi ini memiliki implikasi signifikan dalam mengelola da’wah digital, literasi agama, dan kebutuhan regulasi untuk meminimalkan dampak negatif, seperti penyebaran informasi yang salah dan penyederhanaan berlebihan ajaran agama.  Orisinalitas/Nilai – Studi ini memberikan kontribusi asli dengan menerapkan teori Post-Normal Times untuk menganalisis perubahan otoritas agama dalam konteks da’wah digital, topik yang belum banyak dibahas dalam literatur tentang agama dan media sosial.

Abstract

Abstract; The interpretation of philosophical texts is always closely tied to social, historical, cultural, and biographical contexts, which influence how these texts are understood and accepted by readers. This study aims to analyze the role of texts and context in philosophical interpretation, as well as how their interaction gives rise to the diversity of existing schools of thought. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research analyzes philosophical texts from various intellectual traditions, both Western and Eastern, through an in-depth literature review. The findings of the study show that although philosophical texts contain profound and universal meanings, they can be interpreted in different ways depending on the social, political, and cultural context of the reader, resulting in various philosophical schools such as rationalism, empiricism, existentialism, and others. Academically, this research contributes to enriching the study of philosophy, particularly in understanding the dynamics of diverse text interpretations, as well as their relevance in religious and social studies. The study also emphasizes the importance of understanding context in reading philosophical texts to obtain a more contextual and inclusive understanding of the development of philosophical thought. Keywords: Context; Interpretation; Philosophical Texts; Schools of Philosophy.   Abstrak; Penafsiran teks filsafat selalu terikat erat dengan konteks sosial, sejarah, budaya, dan biografis, yang memengaruhi cara teks tersebut dimaknai dan diterima oleh pembaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran teks dan konteks dalam penafsiran filsafat, serta bagaimana interaksi keduanya melahirkan keragaman mazhab pemikiran yang ada. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, penelitian ini menganalisis teks-teks filsafat dari berbagai tradisi pemikiran, baik dari Barat maupun Timur, melalui kajian pustaka yang mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teks filsafat, meskipun mengandung makna yang mendalam dan universal, dapat ditafsirkan secara berbeda-beda bergantung pada konteks sosial, politik, dan budaya pembaca, yang menghasilkan perbedaan aliran filsafat seperti rasionalisme, empirisme, eksistensialisme, dan sebagainya.  Secara akademik, penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dalam memperkaya kajian filsafat, khususnya dalam memahami dinamika interpretasi teks yang beragam, serta relevansinya dalam studi keagamaan dan sosial. Penelitian ini juga menggarisbawahi pentingnya memahami konteks dalam pembacaan teks filsafat untuk memperoleh pemahaman yang lebih kontekstual dan inklusif terhadap perkembangan pemikiran filosofis. Abstract

Character education has become increasingly crucial in facing the complexity of challenges in the 21st century. Education serves as one of the fundamental pillars in shaping individual character and personality. Amidst the growing religious and cultural pluralism, values-based education becomes more relevant in cultivating a generation with global awareness and inclusive attitudes. The purpose of this research is to delve into the implementation of Living Values Education (LVE) approach that integrates character values with the principles of religious moderationtn the Madania educational environment. This study uses a type of qualitative research method with a case study approach. The findings indicate that Madania School adopts the Living Values Education (LVE) approach by integrating an understanding of religious moderation to create an inclusive, multicultural learning environment that focuses on character development. This approach engages educators as role models in applying character values and encourages students to internalize these values through various daily activities and interactions.
