Abstract

Regional economic growth is a fundamenal indicator in assessing development performance and community welfare. Madura Island, as part of East Java Province, continues to record a relatively lower level of economic growth compared to other regions. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Local Own-Source Revenue, Intergovernmental Transfers, Capital Expenditure, and Household Consumption on economic growth in Madura Island. This study uses a quantitative method based on secondary data obtained for the period 2020–2024 across four regencies in Madura Island, namely Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep. Panel data regression is used as the analytical method. The results show that, partially, Local Own-Source Revenue was found to have no significant influence on economic growth in Madura, while Intergovernmental Transfers, Capital Expenditure, and Household Consumption have positive and significant effects. These findings indicate that economic growth in Madura Island remains dependent on central government transfers, the effectiveness of development expenditure, and household purchasing power, while the role of local revenue has not yet been optimal.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the direct and indirect relationship between the variables of the number of foreign tourist visits and the average length of stay on Regional Original Income through foreign tourist expenditure as an intervening variable through a path analysis approach. This study uses secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency and the Bali Provincial Tourism Office for the period 2000-2024. The results show that the number of foreign tourist visits and foreign tourist expenditure have a significant positive relationship to Regional Original Income in Bali Province, while the average length of stay has a significant negative relationship to Regional Original Income. In addition, foreign tourist expenditure acts as an intervening variable that positively mediates the relationship between the number of foreign tourist visits and Regional Original Income, and negatively mediates the relationship between the average length of stay and Regional Original Income.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of several factors on the purchasing power of communities in each province on the island of Java. The type of data used in this research is secondary data, specifically panel data from 2017 to 2023. The research method is descriptive with a quantitative approach, and the estimation model employed is panel data regression. The results of the study indicate that the independent variables, namely the provincial minimum wage and consumer credit, have a significant effect on the purchasing power of communities in Java. Meanwhile, other independent variables such as inflation, per capita income, investment, and government expenditure do not have a significant effect on purchasing power in Java.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Revenue Sharing Funds, General Allocation Funds, and Special Allocation Funds on economic growth in Java Island in the period 2015–2024. The independent variables in this study include Revenue Sharing Funds (DBH), General Allocation Funds (DAU), and Special Allocation Funds (DAK), while the dependent variable is regional economic growth. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method and data analysis is carried out using panel data regression. The results of the study indicate that Revenue Sharing Funds (DBH) and General Allocation Funds (DAU) have a positive and significant effect on economic growth in Java Island, which means that increasing DBH and DAU revenues can encourage economic activities to increase regional development capacity. Conversely, the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) has a negative but significant effect on economic growth, which indicates inefficiency in the allocation and use of these funds. Overall, the results of this study confirm that the management of balancing funds is highly dependent on the ability of local governments to manage financial resources efficiently, transparently, and accountably in order to encourage sustainable economic growth at the regional level.

Abstract

The high open unemployment rate in East Kalimantan Province reflects the structural imbalance of the labour market. This study aims to analyse the effect of the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Minimum Wage, Average Years of Schooling (AYS), and Economic Growth on the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) across regencies and cities in East Kalimantan Province. This study uses panel data from 10 regencies and cities over the period 2017 to 2025, obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of East Kalimantan Province. The data were analysed using panel data regression with the Common Effect Model (CEM) as the selected estimation approach, based on the Chow Test, Hausman Test, and Lagrange Multiplier Test. The results indicate that LFPR has a positive and significant effect on OUR; Minimum Wage has a negative and significant effect on OUR; AYS has a positive and significant effect on OUR; and Economic Growth has a negative and significant effect on OUR. The coefficient of determination (R2) shows that the four independent variables explain 64.84% of the variation in OUR in East Kalimantan. These findings suggest that labour market policies must address the mismatch between education output and industry demand, and that inclusive economic growth is essential for reducing open unemployment in resource-dependent regions.

Abstract

Poverty is one of the development challenges in the Tapal Kuda region of East Java. This study aims to identify how variables such as education, health, and the economy impact poverty in the Tapal Kuda region. A quantitative approach was employed in this research. Panel data covering the period from 2019 to 2023 were collected from seven regencies, utilizing information from official sources and Statistics Indonesia (BPS). The analysis revealed that the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) with robust standard errors was the most effective approach. The findings indicate that Expected Years of Schooling (HLS), Mean Years of Schooling (RLS), and Life Expectancy (AHH) have a significant negative impact on poverty levels. Conversely, BPJS PBI (subsidized health insurance), Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita, and the Regency/City Minimum Wage (UMK) do not significantly influence poverty. The results suggest that improving the quality of education and health, as well as access to basic infrastructure, is more efficient than relying on economic growth to alleviate poverty. This study is expected to assist local governments in formulating more integrated and targeted poverty alleviation policies.

Abstract

Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research evaluates the integration of local wisdom, community participation, and government policy support across several prominent villages. Data were gathered through field observations, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and documentary studies. The results indicate that transforming urban villages into community-based economic hubs contributes significantly to increasing household income through the activation of creative economy subsectors. A collaborative governance model (pentahelix) was identified as the key success factor, although challenges regarding product quality standardization and digital marketing persist. The study recommends the enhancement of digital literacy and broader access to capital for creative actors at the village level to ensure local economic resilience. Abstract

This study aims to detect the phenomenon of fiscal illusion within the regional financial system in areas receiving Special Autonomy Funds (Dana Otonomi Khusus) in Indonesia, particularly in the provinces of Aceh, Papua, and West Papua. The study is motivated by the high dependency of regional governments on central government transfers—especially Special Autonomy Funds—amid efforts to enhance regional fiscal independence. A quantitative descriptive approach is employed, analyzing data on Regional Own-Source Revenue, General Allocation Funds, Revenue Sharing Funds, and Special Autonomy Funds in relation to Regional Expenditures from 2009 to 2024. The findings reveal that Regional Own-Source Revenue and Special Autonomy Funds do not have a significant effect on Regional Expenditures, whereas General Allocation Funds and Revenue Sharing Funds have a significant influence. Most regional spending continues to rely on central government transfers, particularly Special Autonomy Funds, while Regional Own-Source Revenue contributions remain relatively low. This condition indicates the potential occurrence of fiscal illusion, characterized by a mismatch between public perception and the actual contribution of local revenues to regional development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of industrial agglomeration on regional inequality in the core industrial region of East Java, which includes Surabaya, Gresik, Sidoarjo, Mojokerto, and Pasuruan. The study employs a quantitative approach using panel data regression analysis for the period 2015–2024. Industrial agglomeration is measured using the Balassa Index, while regional inequality is measured using the Williamson Index. The results indicate that industrial agglomeration has a negative and significant effect on regional inequality. This suggests that the development of industrial activities not only drives economic growth in the core region but also creates spillover effects through labor absorption, economic distribution, and inter-regional linkages, thereby supporting equitable development in the core industrial region of East Java.
