Abstract

Literary assessment has undergone a significant transformation driven by advances in pedagogical strategies, technology integration, and its function, especially in Arabic language learning. To overcome the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the Arabic language and its rich literary heritage, researchers will explore innovations in literary assessment in Arabic language education books through the questions they contain as the object of this analysis-based research. The discussion will focus on transitioning from conventional assessment techniques to a more dynamic, critical, and varied basis. This research is a type of qualitative research, namely library research. The analysis technique used is content analysis. This technique is used to compile discussions and patterns on primary data based on secondary data that has been collected. This research aims to explore the extent to which students' critical thinking skills can be measured through literary assessments that are tested in the form of essay questions. Thus, the results of this study show that literary assessment based on critical thinking not only improves the quality of literary learning evaluation but also provides students with the opportunity to develop more in-depth critical thinking skills. From this renewal, it is hoped that students' critical skills can be trained to improve literary skills in learning Arabic through literary assessment innovations developed by researchers.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a Nahwu textbook integrated with authentic material for kitab kuning reading skills using the Graves model. This study's research and development procedure follows Graves' instructional material development model tailored to field conditions. It is used in five stages: needs analysis, goal setting, content conceptualization, material selection, and content and activity organization. Data was collected through questionnaires from 10 students, one Nahwu teacher, and one expert, then analyzed descriptively. The results show a clear need for Nahwu books to integrate mastery of rules and classical text reading skills. According to the pesantren curriculum, this book was developed to improve Kitab Kuning's mastery of Nahwu rules and reading skills. The content is compiled based on the Nahwu Ta’limiy approach, which integrates linguistic elements to support the skills of reading the Kitab Kuning. The teaching materials are taken from Ajrumiyah's book and Kitab Kuning (Islamic classical texts), which follow the pesantren tradition. The book is arranged thematically with exercises and drill methods to reinforce learning. Expert and teacher evaluations show that this book is practical and follows the curriculum without revision. The trial on students showed explicit, relevant material and exercises to help master Nahwu and read the Kitab Kuning effectively. This study confirms that grammar learning for non-native speakers cannot be separated from other linguistic elements, such as vocabulary, or language skills, such as reading, which are the ultimate goal of language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an innovative maharah al-kitabah assessment instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the ninth-grade Arabic textbook published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The issue addressed in this study is the limited number of questions measuring HOTS in the existing textbook, resulting in a learning process that primarily focuses on basic skills such as remembering and understanding. This study employs the 4-D development model, which includes definition, design, and development. The research subjects are maharah al-kitabah questions found in the ninth-grade Arabic textbook. The findings indicate that most questions in the textbook emphasize Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), with only a few assessing higher-order skills such as analysis, evaluation, and creation. Based on these findings, this study proposes the development of HOTS-based questions that encourage students to think more critically and creatively, such as questions that assess text analysis, evaluation, and creative writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to produce an Arabic language learning E-Module based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) using digital technology integration, to determine the results of validation by subject matter experts, media experts, and education practitioners, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the E-Module developed for Arabic language learning. This study is a Research & Development (R&D) using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Data was collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and document studies in eighth grade at SMP Islam Al Azhar 46 Pati to determine the suitability of the material and media contained in the E-Module with the student needs. Data analysis techniques in this study used a Likert scale to measure the validity and feasibility of the E-Module. The results of the validation by subject matter experts, media experts, and education practitioners on the developed E-Module were categorized as very good with a percentage of 92.80%. The advantages of HOTS-based E-Modules using digital technology integration that have been developed in Arabic language learning include ease of access through various devices anywhere and anytime as long as there is an internet connection; fostering discipline, critical thinking skills, creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence; and more interactive presentation of E-Modules. However, there are also some limitations, such as the need for a significant amount of time in developing the E-Module; the absence of a direct two-way discussion space within the E-Module; and the requirement for teachers to act as facilitators, continuously monitoring the learning process, providing support, and motivating students.

Abstract

Abstract: This study was conducted to innovate authentic assessment so that it may serve as a reference for teachers in evaluating Mahārah Kitābah (Arabic writing skills). The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze forms of non-test assessment innovations in Arabic writing skills that align with the principles of integrative assessment. Data were collected through library research, a method that involves gathering, reviewing, and synthesizing theories from various relevant sources such as books, journals, and previous studies. Data analysis employed content analysis, where information obtained from the Grade VII Arabic Language Textbook published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (2020) and supporting literature was first reduced by selecting data relevant to the focus of the study, namely non-test assessment, integrative approaches, and writing skills (Mahārah Kitābah). The filtered data were then categorized into specific themes, such as types of non-test assessments, integrative principles, and their application in teaching. Subsequently, the data were interpreted by connecting the textbook content with theories from the literature to identify models or forms of non-test assessment innovations. The findings indicate that two methods are employed in assessment, namely the census and survey method, and the authentic method. Within the census and survey method, five assessment instruments are utilized: questionnaires, interviews, attitude scales, checklists, and sociometry. In contrast, the authentic method employs two instruments: observation and portfolio. These findings highlight innovative forms of non-test assessment in evaluating Mahārah Kitābah as reflected in the 2020 edition of the Grade VII Arabic Language Textbook published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
