Abstract

Handwashing with soap, when practiced correctly, is the simplest and most effective way to prevent the spread of fecal-oral and other diseases among children. One of the national elementary school health programs is handwashing with soap (CTPS). Therefore, the purpose of this community service activity is to improve the handwashing skills of elementary school children living near the Martapura River. The methods used were lectures with question-and-answer sessions, demonstrations, focus group discussions, and practice. The results of this activity showed an increase in understanding and skills related to CTPS, so that children know the benefits and procedures.

Abstract

Environment cleanliness has an indirect impact on nutritional status, particularly in the growth and development stages of children. In this study, school-age children living along the Martapura River's banks were asked to assess their nutritional health and the relationship between their drinking water sources. Study methodology employing a cross-sectional study design and analytical observational techniques. Research participants comprised 53 primary school students in grade 4 from SDN Keliling Benteng Ulu 2, SDN Keliling Benteng Tengah, and SDN Sungai Rangas Hambuku. Groups A (Martapura River water source group) and B (non-river water source group) comprised the seven groups of subjects: group 1 (very poor nutrition); group 2 (undernutrition); group 3 (normal nutrition); group 4 (obesity). Based on the data, it was discovered that 37 individuals (69.8%) had very poor nutritional status, and 39 individuals (73%), had the most commonly used gallons. The nutritional quality of primary school-aged children living along the Martapura Riverbanks did not significantly correlate with the sources of their drinking water, as indicated by the Fisher Exact test results, which revealed p = 0.146 (p > 0.05).

Abstract

The underutilization of pineapple peel waste and fluctuations in pineapple prices are among the challenges faced by Tinggiran Darat Village. The objective of this Community Empowerment Partnership (PKM) initiative is to empower pineapple farmers by transforming pineapple peel waste into economically valuable products, namely eco-enzymes and liquid laundry detergent. To address these issues, the program adopts an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, involving 40 members of the PKK/ Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (Family Welfare Movement) and youth organizations. The evaluation results through pretest and posttest showed a significant increase in all indicators of participant understanding, namely from 52.25 to 87.5 on the eco-enzyme concept, from 50.0 to 86.75 on the production process, from 48.0 to 89.0 on environmentally friendly detergent products, and from 60.0 to 87.5 on digital marketing and branding aspects, all of which were in the very good category. In addition, the results of the public perception analysis showed a positive level of acceptance of eco-enzyme-based detergent products, with 84.4% of respondents rating the product's cleaning power as good, 90.6% stating it was safe for the skin, 78.1% rating the packaging as quite attractive, and 81.3% stating a willingness to reuse and recommend the product. As an explicit impact, the community is now able to independently process previously discarded pineapple peels into marketable natural detergent products. This has proven effective in reducing the village's organic waste volume while simultaneously creating new, sustainable economic income opportunities for the local community.
