Abstract

This paper seeks to explore the history of the study of codification of manuscripts which still remains problematic. Even some Muslim thinkers doubt the authenticity of the manuscripts circulating now, or commonly referred to as Mushaf ?U?m?ni. In Islamic history, the Qur'an at the time of the Prophet Muhammad was not codified as it is now. At that time, the diversity of reading methods (qir?'ah) was so rich that many friends had their own manuscripts. But in the time of ?U?m?n, the Mushaf only had one version because the other Manuscripts were  ?destroyed". Even many Mushaf were burned at that time, so some friends (campanions/?a??bah) did not accept this. This will not happen without anyone behind it, and certainly has to do with the caliph's political authority at that time as the holder of power. Then why did the time of khulaf? 'al-r?syid?n united the mushaf? What is the reason for the caliph of the early days of Islam to united the Mushaf and burned the other manuscripts? With a historical approach and analytical-critical method, this paper seeks to examine in depth the background or motives for the union of Mushaf and the burning of other best manuscripts. In addition, this paper will also briefly described some of the best-known Mushaf in the history of the Qur'an. They are ?Al? bin Ab? ??lib (d. 40 H), Ibn Mas'?d (d. 32 H), and Ubay bin Ka'ab (d. 21/22 H).

Abstract

This article tries to explore the concept of shahabat in a book Manhaj Żawīal-Naẓar written by Maḥfūẓ al- Tarmasī. This book is Sharḥ Naẓm Alfīyah al-Suyūṭī (died in 911 H) consisting of 980 stanzas, and is added 20 stanzas by al-Tarmasī, so the total is 1000 stanzas. One of the interesting point to be discussed in hadith study is the concept of shahabat, the first source of hadith. The validity of shahabat becomes polemic between Sunni and Shi’i, especially on the concept of shahabat justice. In the book, there is no new concept of shahabat’s justice in general. Al- Tarmasī only repeats the previous ulama’s explanations in his book. By following the majority of ulama, he states that all shahabat are ādil (fair), but the reality shows that not all of them are ādil (fair). This article has been proved it by quoting some sources. Modern Muslim scholars also ask about the concept of al-ṣaḥābah kulluhum udūl. In some literatures, it has been mentioned some shahabat’s attitudes that did not show the Islamic values. There are many examples of bad shahabat’s behavior, so it can be said that the concept of al-ṣaḥābah kulluhum udūl does not have to be understood that all shahabat are ādil (fair). The appropriate meaning is that some of shahabat are ādil (fair) since “kullu” here is juz’iyah (some), not kulliyah (whole). Keywords: ādil, Maḥfūẓ al-Tarmasī, Manhaj Żawīal-Naẓar, Sahabat

Abstract

This paper analyzes the opposition or objection of the writing of hadith ini the second century Hijri in Basrah. By using the historical approach and theory of Walter J. Ong’s orallity and literacy, it was found that since the time of the pophet was still alive, the wring of hadith has indeed became a problem among the companions (ṣaḥābah). This continued during the time of the companions, tabi’in, tābi’ al-tābi’īn, untill there was widespread distribution of hadith accured since some champanions lived in Basrah during the caliph of ‘Umar bin al-Khaṭṭāb (d. 23 H/644 AD). Historically, many prominent scholars of hadith in Basrah refused to wrote the hadith. They prioritize oral tradition that are closely related to the memorization tradition rather than the written tradition. Oral tradition is indeed very visible in the history of the narration of traditions, giving rise to the term ḍabiṭ. This term shows the power of a narrator’s memorization without relying on writing. In addition to demonstrating the power of memorization, scholars who reject the writing of tradition also avoid meaningful transmission. With the opposition of writing hadith, the narrators who are ṡiqah or not can be identified.Key Word: Opposition, Writing of the Hadith, Second Century of Hijri, and Basrah.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the thought or contextual interpretation of ‘Umar Ibn al-Khaṭṭāb which is closely related to hermeneutics. In the Islamic thought tradition, hermeneutics as a method of interpreting the holy book has been done in the early Islamic era. If we look at back ward, the Prophet Muhammad himself had done it. However, because the term hermeneutics that has developed in the Western world, so it feel foreign to the Islamic world. One of the classical Islamic thinkers who wasprogressive thoughts and transcend his time in undesrtanding or interpreting the Qur’an was ‘Umar. This is the geneology of contextual interpretation developed by modern-cotemporary thinkers. In the periodezation of Islamic history, the thoght of ‘Umar can be categorized as classical hermeneutic, because it happened in the early of Islamic period. The thought of ‘Umar was very contextual and progressive. Therefore, it is not suprising to say that he was one of the early hermeneut of The Muslim.

Second, differences in interpretation of the Saparan Bekakak event make cultural inculturation a problem; third, the non-verbal arguments that arise from the symbols used in the traditional Saparan Bekakak event; fourth, the village government's role as an arbitrator or communicator in resolving Saparan Bekakak-related communication disputes. The disagreement over communication will be resolved, preventing any misinterpretation of meaning and preserving the traditional culture of Saparan Bekakak.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of palabe bungo in character education and the development of early childhood communication skills through an ethnopedagogical approach. Using a naturalistic qualitative method, this study was conducted in the context of the Bungo community with a direct observation approach, in-depth interviews, and documentation of Palabe practices in early childhood education environments. The data collected were in the form of oral narratives, social interactions, and children's verbal and non-verbal expressions when participating in the delivery of Palabe. The results of the study indicate that Palabe Bungo plays a role as a means of internalizing character values such as honesty, cooperation, tolerance, and respect for others through interactive and contextual storytelling. In addition, Palabe also contributes to developing children's communication skills by encouraging active participation in conversations, enriching vocabulary, and training the ability to listen and express ideas verbally. This study recommends the integration of Palabe in the early childhood education curriculum as an effort to preserve local culture as well as an effective learning strategy in strengthening children's character and communication from an early age.
