Abstract

Background: Upper extremity motor disorders are the main complaint in the majority of post-stroke patients. Motoric ability is an important prerequisite in daily activities (activities of daily living), including dressing. Motor Relearning Program (MRP) is a method to train the motor skills of post-stroke patients. Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of MRP on upper extremity motor recovery and its effect on the ability to dress activities in post-stroke patients. Methods: The study was conducted with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. The research sample was obtained by purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study were the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) and the Nottingham Stroke Dressing Assessment (NSDA). Data processing was carried out by means of comparative tests and regression tests using SPSS 25 software. Results: The majority of the respondents were male (65%), elderly (65%), <24 months of onset (75%), and with right hemisphere lesions (60%). The mean ± SD FMA-UE score was 37.75 ± 8.63 (pretest) and 47 ± 6.44 (posttest). The mean ± SD NSDA were 8.10 ± 2.94 (pretest) and 12.40 ± 2.89 (posttest). The comparison test showed a significant difference in the FMA-UE score (z=-3.924, p<0.05) and the NSDA score (z=-3.927, p<0.05). The linear regression test shows p-value = 0.001 with a determinant coefficient of 0.459. Conclusion: The MRP method is effective in improving the recovery of upper extremity motor skills in post-stroke patients, which has an effect of up to 45.9% on improving the dressing ability of post-stroke patients. Abstract

Background: Stroke causes changes in muscle tone, which are thought to affect limb function (motor skills) and the ability to perform daily activities or activities of daily living (ADL). However, the extent to which spasticity is related to motor skills and ADL independence requires further study. Objectives: The study aims to examine the correlation between spasticity and upper extremity motor skills and independence in performing ADL in ischemic stroke patients. Methods: The study used an observational quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in the hospital's occupational therapy unit. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. The research variables were measured using the Ashworth scale, Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), and Barthel Index Modified. Analysis of research data using a correlational test using the SPSS version 20 program. Results: The research subjects were 34 people, with a percentage of each gender of 50%, and generally experienced a stroke <6 months. The majority of research subjects experienced spasticity at level 2 on the Ashworth scale (61.77% -70.59%), experienced moderate upper limb motor disorders (61.77%), and the level of ADL independence at the level from moderate dependence (41.18%) to severe (50%). The results of the correlation test of the level of spasticity with upper limb motor skills showed a correlation coefficient (r) = -0.407 - -0.424 with a p-value = 0.012 - 0.017, while the level of spasticity with the level of ADL independence showed a correlation coefficient (r) = -0.459 - -0.552 with a p-value = 0.002 - 0.006. Conclusion: The level of spasticity was significantly negatively correlated with the level of upper extremity motor ability and the level of ADL independence, with a correlation strength at a moderate level. Abstract

Background: Post-stroke problems will affect daily activities, social engagement, and life satisfaction. Decreased life satisfaction is often associated with social engagement, which in turn affects the post-stroke recovery process. Objectives: The study aims to determine the influence of social engagement on the life satisfaction of stroke patients. Methods: The study used a quantitative method, a non-experimental type with a cross-sectional design. The selection of research subjects used a purposive sampling technique with a total of 45 research subjects. The research instruments used included: Social Disengagement Index and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Analysis of research data used correlation and regression tests using the SPSS version 25. Results: The majority of research subjects demonstrate good social engagement at 73.3% and are categorized as satisfied with a life satisfaction rate of 82.2%. Research subjects with good social engagement tend to experience high levels of life satisfaction. The correlation test yielded a value of r = 0.771 and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant positive relationship between social engagement and life satisfaction. The regression test results showed a coefficient of determination (R-square) of 0.594, meaning that social engagement significantly influences life satisfaction by 59.4%, represented by the equation Y = 1.221 + 0.005X. Conclusion: Social engagement has a very strong positive correlation with the level of life satisfaction. Social engagement influences the increase in life satisfaction of stroke patients by 59.4%. Abstract

Abstract Background: The aging process causes elderly people to experience functional changes. Some of these changes include neurological, sensory, musculoskeletal and cognitive changes. Some of these problems will have an impact on the elderly's ability to control their balance. One of the most influential factors in reducing the ability to control balance is the musculoskeletal system. Changes in the musculoskeletal system will reduce muscle mass and muscle strength. Decreased muscle mass results in slowness in movement, short footsteps, decreased muscle strength, especially in the lower extremities which experience balance problems and ultimately risk falling. Muscle weakness results in physical decline which is one of the main factors at risk of falls in the elderly. Tandem walking balance training is an exercise in posture or body position, controlling balance, muscle coordination and body movements as well as knowing the risk of falls that elderly people in Tohudan Wetan Village have. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of tandem walking balance training on the risk of falls in the elderly in Tohudan Wetan Village, Colomadu, Karanganyar. Methods: The design of this research is quantitative pre-experimental using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Sample selection used purposive sampling technique. Hypothesis testing using Paired Samples T Test. Result: The research results obtained a sig value. 0.000 (p<0.005) means that there is a significant influence on the risk of falls in the elderly before and after being given the tandem walking balance training intervention. Conclusion: This research shows that there is an effect of tandem walking balance training on the risk of falls in the elderly in Tohudan Wetan Village, Colomadu, Karanganyar. Key words: Tandem walking balance training, risk of falls, elderly

Abstract

Abstract Background: Rehabilitation efforts for post-stroke patients to restore motor skills often do not provide optimal results. This is allegedly related to the client's seriousness or involvement in undergoing therapy (neurorehabilitation). Post-stroke comorbid problems in the form of post-stroke fatigue (PSF) may also influence this. Objectives: The research aims to examine the effect of engagement on post stroke fatigue (PSF) and recovery of motor skills in ischemic stroke patients. Methods: Observational quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The study was conducted in a hospital occupational therapy unit. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used include: engagement rating scale (ERS), fatigue severity scale (FSS) and Fulg-Meyer Assessment (FMA). Research data analysis uses descriptive analysis, correlative and regression tests using the SPSS version 20 program. Results: The majority of the research sample was male (67.5%), and onset < 24 months (75%).   Mean ERS score = 21.2 ± 0.38, mean FSS change score = 2.17 and mean Fugl-Meyer change score = 2.45. Correlative test of ERS with FSS (r=0.697; p=0.000) and ERS with Fugl-Meyer (r=0.462; p=0.003). The linear regression test shows that the determinant coefficients of 0.486 and 0.226 ERS on FSS and Fugl-Meyer are significant with the equations Y=19.179+0.929X and Y=19.755+0.590X. Conclusion: Engagement influences a decrease in fatigue by 48.6% and an increase in motor ability recovery by 22.6%. Keywords : stroke, engagement, fatigue, motor
