Abstract

Global climate change is a critical issue that demands collective attention and action from various sectors, including the academic community. This community service program aims to increase the awareness and involvement of the academic community, especially students and lecturers, in sustainable climate action. The activity was carried out collaboratively by Musamus University, WALHI, and the Sophia organization through three stages: guest lectures, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and the Ecology Academy. Guest lectures present speakers from environmental organizations who discuss climate change issues and their local relevance. FGDs explored community-based mitigation ideas, while the Ecology Academy provided training in developing practical and sustainable solutions. One hundred nineteen students from various study programs participated, with the level of understanding of the activity objectives reaching 95%. Although participation in the FGDs and the Academy was not maximized, this activity built awareness and initial commitment to environmental action. In the future, strengthening the participation mechanism and flexibility of implementation are expected to sustainably expand the program’s impact.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence the perception of Accounting students in Indonesia towards safe haven investments in the context of global economic uncertainty due to the US-China trade war. Continued economic uncertainty encourages investors to seek hedging instruments, but the understanding of the younger generation as prospective financial practitioners towards safe havens is still limited. This explanatory quantitative study uses primary data from 168 accounting students through a structured questionnaire. Data analysis uses Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to test the effect of financial knowledge level, investment experience, risk tolerance, and exposure to market information on safe haven perceptions. The results show that the level of financial knowledge has the most significant positive effect on safe haven perceptions, followed by investment experience and exposure to market information, which also have a positive impact. Conversely, risk tolerance has a significant adverse impact on safe haven perceptions. The research model explains 54.7% of the variance in safe haven perceptions with good predictive relevance. These findings imply the need to strengthen financial literacy and experiential learning in the accounting curriculum to prepare graduates with a comprehensive understanding of investment risk management in an era of global economic uncertainty.

Abstract

The Papuan Indigenous People in Payum Village, Merauke, who are mostly fishermen, face economic challenges due to the impact of climate change which has the potential to reduce fish catches. On the other hand, women in this village have not been actively involved in potential economic activities. The strategy to overcome these challenges is to conduct training in making coconut derivative products, such as body butter, solid soap, body scrub, and lip balm. This training aims to empower the community, especially women, by improving their skills in utilizing the abundant potential of coconuts to create value-added business opportunities. The results of the training showed success in improving the understanding and skills of the participants. The participants, under the guidance of expert speakers from Makassar, succeeded in producing various coconut derivative products according to standards. In addition, this training also facilitated the formation of women's business groups as a strategic step in community empowerment in Payum Village. With further assistance, this activity is expected to be able to create economic independence for the community and become a model of empowerment based on local potential to deal with the impacts of climate change.

Abstract

This community service program was conducted in South Papua, focusing on the empowerment of the “Mama Juan” MSME, a local producer of the traditional food Sagu Sep. The program addressed key challenges such as limited product shelf life, manual financial management, and restricted marketing reach. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which encompassed socialization, training and technology implementation. The introduction of freezers, ovens, coconut graters, and vacuum sealers enabled the production of Frozen Sagu Sep with improved hygiene, durability, and market value. Financial management was strengthened through QRIS and simple accounting applications, while digital marketing and rebranding expanded market reach and visibility. The results show a significant transformation toward modern, technology-based business practices, providing a replicable empowerment model for local MSMEs in Southern Papua.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of referral marketing in increasing online sales in a social-media-based online retail business. A qualitative approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of how referral marketing operates in practice and how it contributes to sales growth. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving five informants selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings show that referral marketing was implemented through a structured mechanism involving referral links, discounts, reward points, and purchase credits. Its effectiveness was further supported by the use of digital platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok, which enabled recommendations to spread more quickly and personally. The study also found that recommendations from friends and family were perceived as more credible than conventional promotional messages, thereby strengthening trust, encouraging new customer acquisition, increasing repeat purchases, and supporting customer loyalty. In addition, referral marketing was perceived as relatively cost-efficient because incentives were only provided when successful transactions occurred. Therefore, referral marketing can be understood as an effective relational digital strategy for supporting online sales growth.
