Abstract

Health education and health promotion are forms of intervention or effort taht aim to influence behavior in a way that is conducive to health. Eksclusive breastfeeding is the provision of breast milk, without any additional food to infants from 0 to 6 months af age. The factors that influence exclusive breastfeeding are maternal knowledge and attitude. The Indonesian Health Profile for 2019 indicates that exclusive breastfeeding coverage in indonesia for six months was 50%, falling short of the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s target of 80 %. The purpose of the research was to determine the correlation between health education and mothers’ knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding in the catchment area of UPTD the Public Health Center of Long Loreh in 2024. The researcher employed quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach, utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 55 mothers who were either breastfeeding of had babies in the catchment area of the Public Health Center of Long Loreh. The sampling technique employed was total sampling. The data analysis technique employed was the chi-square test ( The results of the univariate analysis show that prior to health education, knowledge was classified as either good (27,3%), sufficient (50,9%) or less good (21,8%). Following health education, the proportion of individuals with good knowledge increased to 72,7 %, while the proportion with sufficient knowledge decreased to 27,3 %. Based on the chi square statistical test, the results obtained a p-value of 0,004 (p<0,05), indicating a statistically significant relationship between health education and maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. This result rejects the null hypothesis (H0) and accepts the alternative hypothesis (Ha). It concluded that health education can be done to mothers in every posyandu to enhance the knowledge and foster a positive attitude towards exclusive breastfeeding of infants aged 0-6 months.

Abstract

Abstract

Social and environmental factors can have an impact on a mother's mental health, especially during a pandemic. Financial stress and the social environment can exacerbate postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is one of the mental health consequences. Postpartum depression is similar to other types of depression, but it occurs as a result of physical and social changes caused by the process of giving birth and raising a child. The objective of this study was to identify the sociodemographic factors that influence the risk of postpartum depression in Tarakan during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a cross-sectional study conducted in Tarakan's North Tarakan District from August to October 2021. The study included 150 postpartum mothers. In this study, simple random sampling was used. The dependent variable of this study was postpartum depression and independent variables were age, education, income, parity, occupation, and support. Data collection employed questionnaires and logistic regression data analysis with the Stata 13 program. The risk of postpartum depression increased with multiparity (95%CI: 0.11-1.78); p = 0.026), and less income (< minimum wage) (95%CI: 0.01-1.48); p=0.045). The risk of postpartum depression decreased with age (<35 years old) (95%CI: (-2.00) - (-0.25)); p= 0.011), occupation (95%CI: (-1.60) – (-0.07)); p= 0.032), support (95%CI: (-1.76) – (-0.10)); p= 0.028), higher education (95%CI: (-1.22) – 0.24); p= 0.190). Postpartum depression risk increases with multiparity and lower income. With normal age, occupation, support, and education, the risk of postpartum depression decreased.

Abstract

Eighty percent of maternal deaths are caused by complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Furthermore, twenty-five percent of maternal deaths is affected by postpartum hemorrhage which is estimated 100,000 deaths annually. Indonesia places at the second ranks of the highest maternal deaths country after Laos. The cause of death in Indonesia is 28% by hemorrhage.  The hemorrhage in maternity is due to anemia in pregnancy. It occurs because when the mother gives birth, there will be adequate uterine contractions so that the hemorrhage is inevitable. The objective of the study is to identify the effect of anemia in pregnancy on the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. The type of research employed is an analytic survey with a retrospective design. The research location was at Juata Tarakan Health Center. The population in this study were all pregnant women who visited the obstetrics and gynecology polyclinic in 2020 which was obtained from secondary data, the patient's medical record book at the Juata Public Health Center with a sample of 271 on June 23 to August 31, 2021. Sampling employed a non-probability sampling technique, total sampling, and the data analysis was administered univariately, and bivariate with chi-square test. The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage in women giving birth in the working area of the Juata Tarakan Health Center is 12.9%. Anemia in pregnancy possesses a significant effect on the risk of postpartum hemorrhage with p value (OR=11,253, 95%CI 5,120-24,732). Meanwhile, parity, age, type of delivery did not possess significant effect on postpartum hemorrhage. Mothers with anemia in pregnancy own a higher risk of postpartum hemorrhage which was 11.253 times greater than mothers who were not anemic in pregnancy. Therefore, it is necessary to perform proper handling of anemia in pregnant women to prevent postpartum hemorrhage.

Abstract

The transitional stage of puberty is often accompanied by limited understanding of reproductive health and inadequate literacy on balanced nutrition, conditions that may increase vulnerability to risky behaviours and impair healthy development. This study aimed to strengthen pre-adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health and adaptive nutrition through interactive school-based education. The intervention was implemented at SD Negeri 047 Tanjung Pasir, East Tarakan, involving 52 sixth-grade students who completed pretest–post-test assessments. Educational materials were delivered using leaflets, posters, and two-way interactive discussion. Knowledge outcomes were analysed descriptively and changes in proportions. The results demonstrated a meaningful improvement in students’ knowledge of reproductive health, with the proportion of high-category scores increasing from 57.7% to 67.3% (effect size +9.6%). Knowledge of adaptive nutrition also increased, although to a lesser extent, from 61.5% to 63.5% (effect size +3.2%). The largest gains were observed in the ability to identify reproductive organs, recognize pubertal changes, and understand appropriate personal boundaries. These findings indicate that visual-supported, interactive education is particularly effective in enhancing pubertal literacy among pre-adolescents, even in coastal settings where discussions about sexuality may be culturally sensitive. This study offers novelty by highlighting how context-adapted reproductive and nutrition education can be successfully implemented in a coastal elementary school environment. The implications for practice include the need for schools to integrate continuous reproductive health and nutrition education into routine learning and to strengthen collaboration with teachers, community health centres, and parents to reinforce healthy behaviours among pre-adolescents.
