Abstract

This study aims to examine the cyclical instability of Islamic banking in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. A stable Islamic banking system can give the public confidence to conduct transactions and thus grow the economy. The proxy variable for stability used is the z-score, with 156 periods of research data from January 2007 to December 2019. The Markov Switching Vector Autoregression (MS-VAR) method was employed. The results show that Islamic banking stability in Indonesia based on the z-score is more stable than others. Nevertheless, in terms of the regression of all the variables, regime shifting, and the duration of the crisis, overall Malaysian Islamic banking displays the best performance. The instability of the Indonesian model is mostly affected by inflation, whereas Malaysia and Pakistan are affected by the financing to deposit ratio and the fluctuation in global oil, respectively.

Abstract

IntroductionAlthough global food production has tripled, sustainable agriculture remains threatened by climate change, land degradation, and financial gaps, especially in smallholder communities. This study introduces the Integrated Waqf Environment Model (IWEM) as a waqf-based funding mechanism to support sustainable agriculture. Additionally, sentiment analysis using VADER Python is employed to assess public perceptions of sustainable agriculture.ObjectivesThis research aims to measure public sentiment regarding sustainable agriculture on the Twitter social media platform. Additionally, the study proposes the Integrated Waqf Environment Model (IWEM) for sustainable agriculture funding as a response to the challenges faced in the agricultural sector.MethodThe research methodology involves the extraction and classification of tweet data using the Python library called VADER (Valence Aware Dictionary and Sentiment Reasoner). The study utilizes tweet data posted within the last year. The research findings indicate fluctuations and a decrease in the number of tweets discussing sustainable agriculture. The location with the highest tweet activity related to sustainable agriculture is Brussels, Belgium, with 642 tweets during the observation period.ResultsWord cloud analysis on keywords reveals that, in positive sentiment, terms like "food security" and "climate change" dominate the visualization. On the other hand, in negative sentiment, words like "farmer" and "private farmland" appear more frequently. Overall, the majority of tweets express a positive attitude toward sustainable agriculture, with 68.5% positive sentiment. Approximately 22.3% of tweets indicate neutral sentiment, without a strong positive or negative tendency. Only 9.1% of tweets contain negative sentiment, suggesting that a small portion expresses less supportive views of sustainable agriculture.ImplicationsThe research provides insights into public sentiment on sustainable agriculture and proposes IWEM as a sustainable financing solution. IWEM can bridge financial gaps, enhance technological adoption, and support policy development for sustainable agriculture. This model aligns with the SDGs, ensuring long-term agricultural resilience and environmental conservation.Originality/NoveltyThis study uniquely integrates Islamic social finance with Smart Agriculture 5.0 through IWEM. It also employs sentiment analysis to understand public perceptions, offering data-driven insights for policymakers. The research contributes a novel waqf-based framework that can be scaled for sustainable agricultural development.

Zakat has an important role in improving welfare and social justice in the community, and has collaborated with Islamic banking to increase zakat collection. However, strategic collaboration between Zakat Collection Institutions (LAZ) and Islamic banks is still not optimal, especially in creating a more inclusive and integrated zakat ecosystem. This study aims to examine the form of strategies in efforts to optimize the collection of social funds (Zakat, Infaq, and Alms) in Indonesia through cooperation between the Zakat Management Organization and Sharia Banking. The method used in this study was the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method, with a total of 16 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on their relevance and competence to the research topic. The results of the study show that in the aspect of problems and solutions, the main priority is regulatory indicators, with an average value of 0.332 for problems and 0.329 for solutions. Then, in terms of the proposed optimization strategy, including strengthening regulations (0,262), aligning bank policies and strategies (0,255), increasing human resource competence (0,241) and developing innovative and varied products (0,241), which can significantly increase ZIS fundraising through collaboration between the Zakat Management Organization (ZMO) and Islamic Banking (IB). Abstract

East Java as one of the National food barns has been able to contribute substantially in the fulfillment of National food needs through the development of food crops and horticulture sub-sector. With the potential and achievement of agriculture sector owned by East Java Province, it can improve competitiveness and improve farmer's income. But behind the potential of this great opportunity development in agroindustry in east java still leaves homework for the Government of East Java Province whether it is the problem from theexternal or internal. This research tries to identify problems in agroindustry development inEast java with Analytic Network Proccess (ANP) combined with Delphi method, including strategic solution that try to offer. ANP is a new supermatrix basedmodel developed by Saaty (2001) to map complex issues into a structured framework. Problems and strategies formed consist of several subcriteria related problems: 1) policy 2) market 3) finance 4) infrastructure 5) Research and Development and 6) Production and processing. The results show that the 3 main criteria that are key to agroindustry development in East Java are policy, infrastructure and finance. Therefore, all stakeholders including Bank Indonesia need to be concerned in these 3 issues, in order to achieve the competitive growth of East Java's global economy.

Abstract

This research addresses a specific issue within halal marketing, emphasizing its novelty. Despite widespread recognition in marketing literature of the roles played by various halal components and strategies in influencing consumer purchase intentions, there is a distinct research gap in the lack of studies focusing on specific categories. This study aims to fill that gap by examining the relationship between halal awareness, certification, and other marketing elements in shaping the halal purchase intentions of Mixue consumers in Indonesia. Structural equation model analysis of data from 156 Mixue consumers revealed positive correlations between halal awareness, certification, and brand with purchase intentions, while food quality and promotion showed negative and non-significant relationships. Theoretically, the research strives to advance a conceptual model of halal purchase intentions by integrating halal components with marketing elements, contributing to marketing literature with a specific focus on Mixue and its consumers in Indonesia. The practical implications involve a deeper understanding of factors influencing halal product purchase intentions, aiding marketing decision-making and business strategies in this rapidly growing market.

Abstract

The repeated failure of structural adjustment programs (SAPs) and stabilization designed by the IMF and World Bank in developing countries has created an urgent need for an alternative economic paradigm. The book An Islamic Model for Stabilization and Growth by Adama Dieye (2020) offers a macroeconomic approach based on Islamic principles, emphasizing a risk-sharing mechanism instead of the risk-shifting that characterizes the conventional model. Through a case study of Senegal, the book demonstrates that applying the Islamic economic model can produce more sustainable economic stability, more inclusive growth, and enhanced social justice. This article elaborates on the conceptual ideas and empirical findings of the book and highlights its relevance for economic policy reform in Muslim and developing countries.
