Abstract

This article critically reviews the grand idea of the Tawhidi Methodological Worldview (TMW) developed by Masudul Alam Choudhury as a new epistemological and methodological framework in Islamic economics. Departing from the law of Tawhid (the oneness of Allah) as its ontological foundation, TMW rejects the dichotomy between rational-material science and moral-spiritual values that dominates the Western paradigm. Through the Tawhidi String Relation (TSR) model, Choudhury formulates a theory of the unity of knowledge that transcends disciplinary boundaries, unifying science, morality, and social reality into an organically interconnected system. This article seeks to explain the basic concepts, epistemological structure, and transdisciplinary implications of TMW for the reconstruction of Islamic economics. This study indicates that TMW offers a new direction for the development of an integrative, dynamic, and universal welfare (maslahah)-oriented Islamic science.

Abstract

According to Law No 21/ 2008, a Sharia Business Unit (SBU) owned by a Conventional Commercial Bank (CCB) is required to separate from its Parent Bank before 2023. Some Sharia Business Units have initiated a separation step from Conventional Commercial Bank. At the same time, they are required to keep the level of efficiency in running their business operations. This paper is intended to analyze the efficiency level of Sharia Business Units that have separated from its parent bank and compare the efficiency level before and after separation. The method used is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Paired Sample t-Test. T he results show that, based on the total average efficiency of all spin-off sharia banks (in this case four sharia banks namely BNI Sharia, BRI Sharia, BJB Sharia and Bukopin Sharia Bank), there is a decrease in technical efficiency and pure technical efficiency before and after the spin-off. This is a cost adjustment is needed in the early periods of spin-off. Sharia banks require a 'weaning' from their parents. Nevertheless, there is no statistically significant difference in the efficiency levels between before and after the spin-off.

This study also proposes a waqf-based waste management system that is suitable for this purpose.

Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present a bibliometric meta-analysis and visualization of the top trends of the theme articles from the Indonesian journal Scopus Q1. This study uses a journal database to analyze the percentage of the number of publications, the most widely used topics, the methodological approach, the top authors, the top agencies and the top countries where the research objects are located. Indonesia is the most influential country in the number of top article writers, top agencies and the most popular research object countries. The most widely published articles are QIJIS journals with a percentage of 42%, IJIMS with a percentage of 33%, Studia Islamika with a percentage of 17%, and JII with a percentage of 8%. This research can be used by readers to understand the general picture of sharia economic and financial article trends in the Indonesian Scopus Q1 journal and to know its contributors/authors, their institutions, the countries of their research and the topics they use.

Abstract

In an effort to improve the development of the sharia economy in Indonesia, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) has decided to carry out a merger of BRI Syariah, Bank Syariah Mandiri, and BNI Syariah becomes Bank Syariah Indonesia. This merger plan is implemented to increase the share of the Islamic banking market so that it can compete with conventional banking. In order to be able to compete with conventional banking, Islamic banks must be able to have efficient performance and high productivity. This research is a quantitative study to analyze and compare the performance efficiency of BRISyariah, Bank Syariah Mandiri, and BNISyariah with the performance efficiency of ten conventional banks for the 2016-2019 periods using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method with five analysis models to obtain various considerations in preparing the merger plan. The estimation results show that if the three Islamic banks are merged, they will have inefficient performance with an efficiency score of 0.86. On the other hand, if only two Islamic banks are merged, namely BNISyariah and BRISyariah, it will produce perfect efficiency values.

Abstract

This article aims to scan and classify Ottoman waqf studies by cluster analysis method, and fill the gap in the literature. In addition, this study is expected to be a guiding resource for those who want to do research on Ottoman waqfs. In the study, Scopus database was scanned using the keywords "Ottoman AND waqf" and the data obtained were analyzed by clustering method. The screening was conducted on May 9, 2024. As a result of the screening, a total of 137 studies were identified, including 106 journal articles, 2 books, 11 book chapters, 3 conference papers and 15 review articles. The date range of all studies is between 1979 and 2024. Then, the collected data was processed and analyzed with the R-Biblioshiny software program. This program is a free open source that provides tool support for bibliometric analysis research. The biggest feature of this software is that it creates bibliometric maps using the metadata of the collected articles. In addition to the R-Biblioshiny software program, the Scopus AI was also used to strengthen the analysis. Scopus AI is an AI-powered platform designed to navigate over the Scopus database. As a result of the cluster analysis, 3 main findings were reached. The first of these findings is the significance of the Egyptian region in the studies on Ottoman waqfs. The second finding is the richness of the cluster that touches on the function and importance of Ottoman waqfs throughout the centuries. The third important finding is the size of the cluster, which is generally categorized under the heading of "Ottoman waqfs". Ottoman waqf system included dynastic waqfs established by sultans and high-ranking state officials, with large budgets and providing various public services. Thus, these large waqfs had an economic impact known as the waqf economy.
