Abstract

The Pasir Putih beach tourist attraction in West Papua is a recreational and religious attraction full of historical value, making it a mainstay for tourists visiting West Papua. This tourist attraction offers the natural beauty of its beaches, which are unique in their sea water which has three colors). However, the management aspects of Pasir Putih Beach are still not managed professionally by the government, and there is a lack of awareness among the local community. This design aims to support the existence of the Pasir Putih Beach tourist attraction. As a condition for developing the attractiveness of the tourist attraction, it is necessary to develop facilities that can accommodate every activity for the local community and tourists at the attraction. The design principle of Eclectic Architecture is to combine the styles and elements of traditional Papuan architecture and Scandinavian architecture in building design. The process goes through stages of data analysis and synthesis methods to produce a design for accommodation in the form of a cottage with several supporting facilities such as parks/green open spaces, recreation areas, children's play areas, and beach volleyball sports areas. It is hoped that this design can become a facility that can meet accommodation needs at the Pasir Putih Beach tourist attraction while also increasing its attraction for tourists by using a design that displays the beauty of the past and present in the shape of the building, ornaments, materials and coloring techniques so that it becomes its characteristic, which is different from other tourist attractions.

Abstract

Futuristic architecture emerges from visionary ideas that embody freedom and forward-looking perspectives, manifesting in unconventional, creative, and innovative forms. Drawing upon literature and theoretical frameworks, this paper formulates several key principles of futuristic architecture: (1) integration of future-oriented concepts in building design; (2) adoption of unconventional and asymmetrical building shapes; and (3) utilization of cutting-edge technological advancements in structural design and construction practices. Employing a descriptive-qualitative analysis method, this study applies these principles through three case studies. Findings underscore that the juxtaposition of futuristic building forms against traditional environments accentuates their conceptualization of the future. Moreover, the degree of uniqueness and asymmetry directly influences the application of these principles, while advancements in structural technology reinforce their implementation.

Abstract

Deconstruction architecture has become a controversial style with varying opinions about its unconventional nature. This concept emerged in response to the boredom and fatigue of existing modern architecture and is currently being applied in the design of Creative Hub buildings in the modern era to avoid the monotony of typical geometries. The application of Deconstruction architecture in performance buildings is considered suitable as a means to illustrate the principles of deconstruction architecture in the modern context. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method and collects data through a literature study related to Deconstruction architecture. The analysis results show that Creative Hub adopts the concept of Deconstruction architecture by applying principles such as hybrid forms (combination of forms), form complexity, aesthetics and ornamentation, strong symbolism, disorder, disharmony, the use of metaphors, distortion, and contrast in its design."

Abstract

Abstract: The pesantren (Islamic boarding school) is a traditional Islamic educational institution in Indonesia with distinct characteristics in its education system and culture, where the mosque's architecture plays a significant role in creating identity and reflecting religious values. This study aims to analyse the façade design of the mosque at Pondok Pesantren Al Baaits, focusing on the influence of Islamic values in the selection of ornaments and decorations, as well as their connection to the concept of safety in both the worldly and afterlife aspects of Islamic architecture. We employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. We gathered data from direct observations of the mosque's façade design, interviews with the pesantren management, and a review of pertinent Islamic architecture literature. The findings show that the front of the mosque at Pondok Pesantren Al Baaits has some Islamic-themed decorations that show how the relationship between people, nature, and God should be balanced between the physical and non-physical worlds. These ornaments strengthen cultural and spiritual identity and create an atmosphere conducive to learning and devotion in both worldly and spiritual contexts.

Abstract

Contemporary architecture emerged as a response to changing times that demand innovation in architectural form and concept. This shift is driven by architects’ dissatisfaction with rigid conventional architectural theories. Dynamic design adaptations—such as the use of curved exterior lines, unique asymmetrical room shapes, aesthetically placed large windows, the application of neutral and bold colors, and unconventional materials like glass and metal—characterize contemporary architecture. Additionally, buildings often feature open roofs that apply environmentally friendly principles while providing protection from sunlight. To ensure that Islamic buildings remain relevant and modern in line with current developments, this study employed methods including literature review, analysis of contemporary design, and the application of aesthetic principles along with environmentally sustainable functions in the design process. The results demonstrate that the Islamic Studies Centre can achieve modern, aesthetic, and functional buildings through a contemporary architectural approach without compromising Islamic values while also supporting sustainability and user comfort.
