Abstract

This study aims to describe and critically analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in Early Childhood Education (ECE), while also exploring the supporting and inhibiting factors and gathering strategic recommendations from teachers as frontline practitioners. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving teachers from selected kindergartens implementing PjBL. The findings reveal that teachers generally understand PjBL as a project activity but struggle to differentiate it from conventional crafts or display projects. Their understanding of the pedagogical structure of PjBL remains limited, particularly regarding essential elements such as driving questions, inquiry-based exploration, and authentic assessment. Lesson plans are often based on available topics rather than emerging from children’s interests, and assessment strategies are rarely integrated from the beginning of the planning stage. Implementation tends to be teacher-directed, limiting children’s autonomy, problem-solving, and collaborative learning opportunities. However, children show increased enthusiasm and curiosity when given opportunities to explore, especially through outdoor and environmental projects. Supporting factors include institutional encouragement, parental involvement, and the use of culturally relevant contexts. Conversely, challenges such as time constraints, inadequate training, and limited resources hinder effective implementation. Teachers recommend continuous, practice-based training, collaborative and flexible lesson planning, integration of community resources, and development of assessment tools that evaluate creativity, communication, and collaboration. This study contributes to a better understanding of how PjBL can be meaningfully adapted in early childhood settings and provides practical insights for improving teacher professional development and curriculum design.

Abstract

This activity aims to improve the motor skills of early childhood through outdoor play activities at Pelangi Bulukumba Kindergarten. The activity was conducted over six sessions in May 2025 by lecturers and students of the Early Childhood Education Study Programme at STAI Al Gazali Bulukumba. The activity stages began with coordination with the school, observation, development of a lesson plan, instrument validation, and the implementation of a pre-test, outdoor play interventions, and a post-test. The activities included various gross and fine motor games, such as zig-zag running, jumping, and moving small objects. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in children's motor skills, with 100% of children achieving the “Very Good Development” category after the activity. A paired sample t-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000), indicating the effectiveness of this method. These findings reinforce motor development and developmental ecology theories, which emphasise the importance of the natural environment in supporting children's growth and development. In conclusion, outdoor play is effective in improving children's motor skills and is recommended for regular integration into the kindergarten curriculum. Parent involvement and the development of modules, along with ongoing evaluation, are necessary for the sustainability of this programme. Keywords: gross motor skills, fine motor skills, outdoor play, locomotor skills,

Abstract

In the academic world, proper and efficient reference management is essential to ensure the quality and credibility of scientific writing. However, many lecturers and education practitioners, particularly early childhood education teachers, still encounter difficulties in managing references according to established academic standards such as APA and MLA citation styles. This challenge often hinders the process of academic writing and decreases the quality of scholarly outputs. To address this issue, a structured training program was conducted focusing on the use of Mendeley, a digital reference management tool designed to simplify citation and bibliography management automatically. The objective of this training was to enhance participants’ technical competence, digital literacy, and their ability to integrate Mendeley into the process of preparing scientific papers. The training activities were carried out using a series of steps, including needs assessment of participants, collaborative planning, hybrid training implementation (both online and offline), and continuous assistance through follow-up forums. Throughout the program, participants were guided step-by-step on how to install, use, and integrate Mendeley into word processing applications for academic writing. The results of the evaluation showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge and practical skills, with an N-Gain score of 0.70, which falls into the high effectiveness category. The training not only improved the quality of reference management in scientific papers but also promoted greater professionalism and academic accountability. Moreover, it supported the broader goal of integrating technology into educational development. Overall, this initiative is expected to encourage more systematic, efficient, and digitally literate practices in academic writing among educators, ultimately contributing to improved educational quality in higher education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of applying the Conservation Based Learning (CBL) model integrated with local wisdom in improving the environmental literacy of fifth-grade students at SDN 351 Kawasan Ammatoa, Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi. Using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, this study involved two classes, namely an experimental class taught using the CBL model and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data collection was conducted through learning outcome tests in the form of multiple-choice and essay questions that measured students' environmental literacy, which included understanding conservation concepts, the ability to analyze environmental problems, and the application of knowledge in daily life. The results showed that the application of the CBL model integrated with local wisdom had a significant impact on improving students' environmental literacy, with the average posttest score for the experimental group reaching 86.00, while the control group only scored 61.81. Hypothesis testing using an independent t-test showed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). In addition, N-Gain score analysis revealed a higher increase in the experimental group (0.76) compared to the control group (0.35), indicating that the CBL model is more effective in improving environmental literacy. Thus, this study confirms that the CBL model, which integrates local wisdom, can significantly improve students' understanding, analysis, and application of environmental knowledge, which is important for shaping sustainable environmental awareness
